5th Sep 2012 and I’m in The Fighting Cocks, Oakengates: the only pub owned by the Ironbridge Brewery. Everards were involved with setting up this joint venture; hence their beers are always available in this pub. I had a hand-pulled pint in a straight UK sleeve glass.
Amber bodied; with an off-white head.
The nose and taste was a good mix of flavours: hoppy and malty at the same time, fruity hops, nutty malts with a semi-sweet start and a mildly-bitter finish, both to the smell and taste.
I’d forgotten how good this was: not had a pint of this for years, I’ll try and rectify that a lttle more often now I’ve re-visited it.

The liquid is clear, the colour is amber. The loq head is white and very airy.
The smell is light with some herbs and a light sourish note. Hints of crisps and fruit essences.
The taste is malty. Tart hints in the background makes it more refreshing. Notes of dried fruits. Medium strong bitter flavours with some lime (not in an American way, though). Rye bread and prunes. Dry dried exotic fruits in the aftertaste as well as some red berries. The finish is smooth and balanced with some more red berries.
The carbonation is medium strong for a cask ale, the bubbles are medium sized. The liquid is light and a little smooth. After a pint, it becomes a bit rough.
It was served a bit too cold. The fruity flavours were not expected, making it a bit candy-like.

Tasted by half-pint at the Penderel's Oak, a JDW pub nr. Holborn tube station, Central London, during Wetherspoon's beer festival 11-21/05/06. (Awarded Gold Medal at the 2004 Brewing Industry International awards--according to the pump clip.)
A: bright reddish-orange hue, a thin, off-white blanket foam sustains on the top, leaving very tight lacing along the wey; mild carbonation.
S: wow... harmonious on the nose--caramel malts' sweetness approaches hand in hand with hop resins, Challenger hop's orangey fruitiness, plus a spicy touch like traditional Goldings--all interwoven together nicely.
T: a smooth flow of fruity hops settles down to a spicy hoppy "bed"... very light amber-malts develop, helping to keep a subtle balance b/w hop-bitterness & malty edge in the end; increasingly dryish, bitter, lingering finish. Simply thirst-provoking and more-ish.
M&D: soft-textured, med-bodied, vis-a-vis a lingering but delicate bitterness to entertain the palate. This is a good ale with both depth and "quaffability"--really nice.
P.S. From the overall flavour profile, it's more like a Premium Bitter/ESB to me rather than a Brown Ale.

Cask conditioned at a local festival
Pours with a light brown colour, slightly fizzy head forms, some retention and little lacing
Smell, slight hints of hops (might be goldings), malty presence
Taste, dry and hoppy, slightly floral, bitterness on the finish
A good solid ale
