Trying the Anker Stout, a can that I brought back from a trip to Jakarta. The Beer pours a dark opaque color with thin ecru head that is leaving spotty lacing. The smell....quite honestly....a very faint black licorice....which makes it almost fruity. The taste is kind of bland....I am not picking up much of the usual suspects expected from a stout....there are hints of roast but nothing to get excited over. The mouthfeel is medium to light body with lots of carbonation. Overall it is not a great stout....but at least it mixes up the beer menu in Indonesia.

Pours to a deep root beer brown with a tan head. Smells of molasses and malt with some black licorice. Taste is roasted malts with a nice black licorice start and a finish that fades nicely with a slightly bitter smokiness. Mouthfeel is light and crisp. A very tasty yet light stout ideal to imbibe when in Bali.

This one poured out of the can a very dark brown with mahogany edges and a big, fluffy tan head that settled to a thin cap. Good head retention and there was plenty of lacing, thick to start and spotty as my glass was emptied. Malty aromas of roasted and burnt grains, toffee and chocolate, along with a hint of cherry. The flavour was thin compared to the promise of the aroma, little bitterness and a bit of roast, grain, and cherry character. Still, not bad. Light bodied and quite dry, carbonation was average. It was easy drinking, but the thin flavour definitely worked against it.
