Pale golden colour, 1.5 fingers of white head, decent amount of retention and lace. Smell is grainy with apple juice like scents, malty followed immediately by alcohol, dirty water like scents come in, earthy and muddy as well. Taste is grainy and metallic, more of that muddy earth that was in the nose, apple juice, light alcohol but surprisingly well hidden. Medium carbonation, med-full body, decent enough feel. This was pretty bad but I finished the can off without a problem, I would probably never buy this again but I didn't mind drinking it once.

500 mL can from TBS; best before May 2014. So was this beer previously brewed to 8.6%? Or is that value just the current abv in different units? Seriously, I want to know what the numbers mean.

Pours a bright golden-yellow hue, topped at first with two fingers of frothy, puffy white head that sticks around for a good four or five minutes. It even has the courtesy to leave some strands of lacing behind on the sides as it seeps away - definitely one of the better looking strong lagers I've had lately, for whatever that's worth. Unfortunately, it smells terrible - lots of booziness, fusels, grainy malts and corn syrup are the only things I can pick out, and altogether it kind of just smells like wet garbage.

Not very tasty, but actually not that bad for something that's nearly 8%. Relentlessly sweet flavour profile, with vibes of minty apple juice, corn syrup, ethanol, and perhaps some caramel. Doesn't sound very tasty? There's a good reason for that. The finish is a little boozy and a little malty, but still sickly sweet. I can't really find any trace of hops or hop extract; maybe that's where I'm getting mint from? Who knows. Medium-bodied and very smooth, with relatively low carbonation that I am not a real big fan of in this type of brew.

Final Grade: 2.29, an embarrassing D. The thing that impresses me most about Bavaria 8.6 is probably the drinkability; it basically just tastes sweet and wet, and even though you can tell the alcohol is there (and it will hit you eventually), this is definitely not an especially raunchy-tasting lager for the abv. Reminds me a little of Boxer Ice, with its weird, fruity, funky off-tastes. I worked at a liquor store in Alberta that sold these; the only customers I ever saw purchase them were homeless people and 'regulars' (alcoholics). Two of these might give you a decent buzz for 4-5 bucks, but Warka Strong can do the same while allowing you to retain your self-respect for the rest of the night. I'd only drink this again if I were pretty desperate.

500ml Can

Appearance – Redish amber colour with a very large size frothy beige coloured head. There is an average amount of carbonation and there is some really good lacing. The head lasted for 6 minutes before it was gone.

Smell – Malts, cherries, grains

Taste & Mouth - There is an average amount of carbonation and I can taste malts, a bit of dark fruit, and some caramel. It finishes with a malty slight sweet aftertaste.

Overall – I had very low expectations for this beer but ti actually turned out to be fairly decent. The alcohol isn't as noticeable as I thought it would be, and the beer had a fantastic appearance ion the glass. not sure I'd buy it again, but I'm glad I gave it a shot.

This one poured a very clear, golden yellow. A big fizzy white head was initially present but faded down to reveal nothing more then a thin layer of film like lace on the top. Lots of visible carbonation came streaming up from the bottom of the glass, and it left a tiny bit of residual lace on the sides of the glass.

The smell was light, nice grain and yeasty bread like smell mixed in with some kinda light fruit, maybe some banana, and a touch of alcohol, but it was pretty standard lager. The taste was like a really strong budweiser. It tasted like your standard fare macro lager, buch just stronger. Typical grain adn yeast, maybe some corn in the flavor. A touch of alcohol. very smooth, and clean. Non lingering aftertaste. This was a very sessionable beer. Went down easy and you didnt really feel how strong it was, a dangerous combo. Best served really cold in my opinion.

Overall I was a bit underimpressed with this as a specialty beer, but as a macro lager, I was quite pleased.

We pour a brew of pale honey-yellow. It holds a creamy head of white foam, standing one and a half fingers high. Patterned lacing appears down the glass as it goes. There is near full clarity through the beer, as no sediment is noted. Carbonation looks to be robust. The nose is full of bready and adjuncty malts which are drying, like flour. There is a healthy scoop of booze mixed in, and the aroma is otherwise composed of fruity, syrupy sweetness. The fruit is of browned apples with a souring twinge. As we sip, the palate is met with bittering malts up front. The middle continues in this, but adds huge fusel alcohols. These mix with the faintest of sweet esters and most distant floral hops for something of a balance. All else is indecipherable through the alcohol of the finish. The aftertaste breathes a shot of vodka, with a twist of white sugar sweetness. The body is medium and the carbonation is low to medium. The feel to the mouth is somewhat slick, but no coating or satiation occurs. There is no creaminess to the sip. The beer is not overly watery, and is warming, but not as robustly as one would expect for a beer higher on the abv scale. Due to this the mouth is left a bit puckered and shuddering, but the beer drinks with an even simplicity.

Overall, what we found most enjoyable about this brew was the boldness of the flavor. While there was not much there to pick apart, the flavors presented came through with a surprising strength. Where it started to become unpleasant was when, at the tail end of the middle, the alcoholic burn took over the entire flavor, turning it into straight liquor.

Amber brown appearance with minimal head. Smell is sweet and grainy, booze is apparent.

Taste is overwhelmingly sweet, alcoholic and grainy. Body is thick and syrupy with low carbonation. Aftertaste is spicy with a lingering sweetness.

Overall, this is a cheap and powerful beer for those who are embarrassed with buying malt liquor. When it comes to strong beer, it's a little to thick and sweet for my taste.
