All you need to know is lambic out of a jug. Everything else is superfluous.
Awesome atmosphere has an almost rustic feel, or at least a feeling of a different era. White plaster walls and dark wood tables. Lambic in a jug! Limited beer menu compared to many places, but as I mentioned, it doesn't matter because this is one of the few chances where you'll be able to appreciate a lambic served the old fashioned way. Heck, you can even get draft faro!
Food is of the feel the width variety, and my friend had perhaps the biggest plate of pasta I've ever seen. For my part, I indulged in a croque monsieur, which was filling, but hardly gourmet.
Service was fast, friendly and efficient.
While its not got the selection of one of the leading lights, you can't skip over this place or you'll be kicking yourself!

While in Brussels, friends took us to La Becasse for some pre dinner drinks. This is a hidden gem, no big flashy bottles, just custom blended guezues and simple bites and the perfect spot just hang out.
They have many other good beer offerings, but as other have stated, tasty local blends.
If I were a local and did not mind the parking/tourist crowd in the Grand Place, this would be a regular hang out for me.

Right off the beaten path. Can elude you if you are not looking for it. That is probably why we had the place to ourselves. Go to Delirium if you want to try variety, but you'll be hard pressed to outdo the quality anywhere. Great change of pace and a must when in or near Brussels.

I had pre-trip researched a little on A La Becasse but it was a low priority; however, I decided to make a stop based on the recommendation of Werner from Oud Beersel and the Lambic Discovery Center. I'm glad that I had talked to him, otherwise I might not have approached the place. The nondescript front is just a door with a sign that leads to a long, ancient hallway until it emerges into a dark wood interior lined with tightly spaced rows of tables. Very quaint place that feels local in spite of being very close to the Grand Place, though some were clearly tourists because I can hear their excessively loud Texas accent-laden conversation across the room.
I started with the sweet lambic, Lambic Doux. It's Timmerman's lambic sweetened and served in a traditional lambic jar and glass. A light amber ale that shines in the glass, it has a subtle sourness and an earthy tone. Sweetness balances the sour, almost, and makes for a very pleasant thirst quencher, as it says on the menu.
Moved on to the Lambic Blanc, or white lambic. Initially a foamy white head built up and fell on top of a slightly hazy, light yellow beer. It's listed as a white wheat beer on the menu, and explained as a unique, traditional Lambic that was imbibed on the farms of Pajottenland. It also has a subtle wheaty nose with a faint sourness and sugar. Sweetened as well, the lemon, wheat tang and spiciness push over the sweetness that lingers in the back. Very refreshing and complex; I can see how this was the "lawnmower" beer of Flanders. When talking to Werner yesterday, I had trouble understanding how this was Belgian equivalent of Saison, a beer to drink on the farm but this white lambic makes it abundantly clear.
The waiter was very friendly and helped me to order a vegetarian dish, a traditional cheese sandwich. It was a very thin bread that was spread with a heavy layer of soft white cheese. Radishes and onions on the side added contrasting flavors to the creamy cheese funk. For me, the cheese became a bit much by the end, but an interesting meal of traditional cuisine that is hoped for element of any good vacation. And, I have room left for a waffle for dessert on the Grand Place (eat plain to look like a local--add too much chocolate and whip cream for the "tourist" waffle).
In the end, the only negative of my stop was the really loud American. Otherwise, once I settled in, it felt like a real place compared to the craziness of the Delirium Cafe, a respite from the touristy nature of many bars in this area; it lived up to Werner's billing in every way. For any beer geek that's serious about tasting lambic in its traditional manner, A la Becasse is a must stop when in Brussels.

This is a great bar for ambiance and beer. It has real old-world and back-street charm. It has a tiled floor, wood paneling and wrought iron but in an understated way. It has rows of small wooden tables packed together. The focus is very much on the beer, although food is served. Their specialty is the Timmermans Lambic Doux. It’s a quiet pleasant place. The draught beer is served in ceramic jugs with small glass tumblers.
Overal this is a nice place away from most tourists , only the service can be a bit better

After a dinner at a Greek cafe, we headed out to look for a bar called Becasse. There is one main reason to seek out La Becasse; their house beer, Lambic Doux produced by Timmerman's.
Becasse is located at the end of a narrow alley keeping foot traffic to a minimum which is a shame because it is a beautiful little cafe. Lots of wood and brass and ceramic jugs which carry the Lambic Doux. Lambic Doux is a straight lambic, lightly sweetened and very still. It hits you more like cider than ale but the balance of the tart funky flavors and the candy sugar sweetness is delicate and perfect. This makes Becasse a must visit for fans of lambic. Served in ceramic pitchers, it is a throwback to a time when all beer in Brussels was served this way.
Maybe the most gorgeous looking bar in Brussels, the service was unintrusive but attentive but the place wasn't very busy when we stopped by. The beer list is limited to Timmermans products but the Lambic Doux is the reason to come. A unique beer experience.

A little background: landed in Brussels at 7:30 am, tired and stinking and dehydrated after a long flight, and couldn't check into the hotel until 2pm. Dropped the bags at the hotel and decided that lambic by the jugful sounded like a perfect way to rehydrate, so we wandered around aimlessly to give this place a chance to open and then headed there.
Turns out we were there during the annual party of the students at the university, so the place had a big long table packed full of students with a gigantic, enormous jug of beer on the table. We just sat down in the corner and started ordering jugs that looked puny by comparison. So if you want to order a jug of beer that can hold a few gallons, they can hook you up.
Very neat place. Waitstaff was quiet but responsive. Very traditional atmosphere. Didn't try any of the food, but it looked to be mostly bar food. Sausages, small sandwiches, that kind of thing. If you're in Brussels, it's definitely worth a stop.

This place was our second bar stop after the nearby Cirio on our first day in Belgium, 09JUL09. You could easily miss this place if you weren't looking for it, as it's down a narrow alleyway off a main walkway. While the jugs of lambic were tempting, I settled on a Rochefort 8 (had never had any Rochefort up to that point), while my wife got a Hoegaarden Grand Cru. The 8 was outstanding as expected and the Hoegaarden Grand Cru (rather unexpectadly) was also very good.
We were literally the only ones in this place on a Thursday afternoon, although two others came in while we were waiting for our beer. The place is not too big as it is, and I think that's some of the appeal of it. It's very much a quiet, relaxed atmosphere to enjoy your beer in.
The service was decent, and I remember the selection being about the same number of beers as the Cirio which was closeby. The Trappists beers were well represented. This place is worth checking out if only to avoid heavier tourist crowds as you would find at Delerium.

We stayed right around the corner from a la becasse and it still isn't easy to find. Its down an alleyway that is noted by a sandwich board out front.
Its a great hidden location with a lot of rustic charm and it specializes in lambic, geuze and kriek. They have a house lambic and they serve their lambics in the traditional ceramic pitchers.
Lots of snack items like sausages and cheese as well as some other small dishes to keep you satisified.
The overall beer selection is tame compared to some of the other Brussels hot spots but it is nonetheless a really cool place to have a few beers as its very traditional.
The waitstaff is limited and not all that talkative yet they are friendly enough to get what you want.
Great little place, I've come back after my first visit two years ago and it has not changed at all not even the prices.
If you are looking for a bit of a haven from the crowded cafes in the Grand Place check this little spot out.
