Went with Gert-Jan and Hans...This was our first stop of the evening and the place was Packed!!!! But it wasn't that bad at all. Good beers, good cheese, more good beer. A great place to have a few good beers. Make sure to try the Vlo (sometimes you can be lucky and grab it on tap, or try the BierKonig for a bottle).. Is a small quaint little place but you almost feel like you are drining at an old friends house, but can be very busy at peak hours, but its really not that bad. enjoy the huge bottle collection on the wall, and try some cheese while you're at it.. a MUST if in Amsterdam!

Damn this building is cool. On the inside the selection is pretty typical of a brewery. Slightly disappointing there isn’t anything more special on draft than what they bottle and distribute, because everything we tried was really great. There is an enormous beer garden out front. Lots of people on beer tour mixed with lots of locals enjoying an afternoon brew.

very cool setting in amsterdam, on a nice day the patio is very cool where you can sit under some trees and sip their beers and enjoy some quality people watching. beer isn't amazing, but a fun hour or 2 hanging out at a great spot. definitely recommend to folks visiting amsterdam...easy tram ride from city center.

Vibe: The brewery is quite a walk from the center of the city but upon arrival to the brewery, you are treated to a view of one of the few windmills in the city limits, which happened to be spinning. The brewery is located in a small building near the base and had a large outdoor seating area like a German biergarten. Hundreds of empty beer bottles decorated the walls inside.
Quality: Beers were served in the proper glassware at the proper temperature. I really liked the oversized snifter I got to try their Belgian Strong Dark Ale.
Service: Service was very quick because there was a very large portion of the bar without chairs that people would walk up to and bring back items to their tables.
Selection: A total of eight beers were available on-tap. Prices were very inexpensive - less than 3€ for glasses and 8€ for a flight of five beers.

ZATTE is where its AT! On a solo backpacking trip last summer I met a few guys at the flying pig and we journeyed over to this place. After a long walk we got there and it was closed (and raining) my spirits sank deeply but thankfully they opened up and hooked us up with samplers. Natte, zatte, wit, columbus, etc. not expensive in any way and good pours of each. my favorite by far was zatte. If i ever get back to amsterdamn this is going to be one of my first stops. the guy that served us behind the bar is one of the brewers and he's able to actually talk beer with you in english. Its good to meet new exciting people in new exciting places and this is a great place to do so. thanks to the guys at brouwerij't IJ, they really made that day a good one!

Went to this place with my wife during the summer. Great place to grab a few glasses of the house beer and a plate of salami and cheese.
Very chilled atmosphere for such a busy and young place. Really enjoyed it here.
Beers were reasonable in price and the service was very nice.
Bartenders are very nice and will help you out with anything. They also speak english.
I am not aware of parking but then again its such a walking and biking city who cares.
Also, you can't really miss it. Its under the windmill.

Stoped by this place on my trip through Amsterdam in September.
Its situated on the outside of town, walking distance from Dam Sq if you want to burn all the beer calories off.
You cant miss this place. Its a huge wooden windmill! It has great communal wooden benches outside, covered with vines. Dogs and local youth chilling outside. Inside, there are a few benches and lots of stools at the bar. Beer bottles all over the walls, most of which I never heard of.
Service was very friendly...they serve house brews only on tap. I had the columbus, Natte, Zatte, and Wit. And at like 3 euro each, makes this place the cheapest for great beer in Amsterdam (probbaly). Each beer was fantastic, but the Zatte was my favorite.
They did have a smoked meat and cheese plate, but didnt try it. Other than that, I didnt notice any food.
I do think I saw some people buying some 12oz bottles to go...so I guess they have take home brews.
This is deff worth a visit if you find yourself in Amsterdam. Plus, I wasnt ready to shell out 20euro to visit the Heineken factory...this is fairly close to it, but not touristy; oh and good beer to boot!

I visited this brewery tap on a Friday evening in late October 2011. To get there, either take tram 10 from Leidseplein to Hoogte Kadijk, or tram 14 from Dam Square to Portanusstraat. It is a two minute walk from either stop.
It only opens from 3pm to 8pm and seems to be very popular, being filled with (mostly) locals chatting away and having a few beers. The pub is located in a former bath-house just beside/underneath the windmill. It has fairly basic decor; white tilled walls, shelves lined with a myriad of old beer bottles, wodden tables and chairs/benches. The best way to get served is to go up to the bar, but wait service may be available. I had their Bokbier (as it is bokbier season) and also a couple of others including Struise (in a bottle). We also had some Skeapsrond; - a sheeps cheese made with molk from sheep fed with spent malts from the brewery. Very nice with a beer.
It is cheaper to drink here than other places in Amsterdam, so that contributes to it's popularity. It is a nice place to spend a couple of hours.
