My wife likes Hefes, so Im on a quest to get her beer she likes. This is a good/sour one.
A) citrus ripe like.
A) bright and hints of apricot.
F) Crisp, sour and unrefined. Very apricot and yeast like.
P) Tart but full.
O) My wife likes it, I think it's good. We'd have it again.

Great bottle, with a flip top that can be resealed. Pours a hazy fizzy yellow, with a 1/2 inch white head very little lace remains around the glass....and lots of bubbly visible.
S- Slightly musky but with the expected banana, clove , plantain in the undertone.
T/M/D- Slightly chewy for a hefe, but overall still refreshing... light hops, medium body...Banana and citrus...as well as hints of some other tropical-ness.
Decent beer but overall it makes me want summer.

This was a decent hefe weizen but a little bit flat in the flavor department. The color was a light, straw colored ale with a light foam. The smell was strong and pleasant and the best part of the beer, The taste had a mild sweet flavor that was slightly fruity, but flat otherwise. The mouthfeel was good, but the overall drinkability was decent.

Best before end date: 881075??
Pours a hazy honey color with a 3 fingers deep eggshell head. Stays hazy, minimal lacing & head retention
S: Big-time banana & cloves
T: Big time banana & cloves up front; peppery spice follows with hint of lemon & bandaids. Juicy fruit quenching wetness follows up. Finishses quenching, fruitty with banana dominating the taste profiles.
MF: Light/medium bodied with low carbonation & juicyness
Drinks pretty easy, very refreshing, hefe purists will love this. I couldn't do more than 2 at a sitting, the strong flavors are not to my wheelhouse

Into a Schwelmer Weizen glass, the beer pours a cloudy yellow-orange, opaque with the yeast swirled in. Several fingers of foam, looks good, pretty standard.
Smell is wheaty, slight banana/clove, but very subdued. There's a musty grain note that may be attributed to it's age.
Taste is slightly sweet at first, honeyish and doughy. Moderate mouthfeel carries notes of yeast and slight banana ester. A little phenolic maybe, but nothing out of place. Clove in the aftertaste, much stronger in a fresh sample. Seems like the carbonation thins out after awhile. Overall it's balanced and very drinkable.
Try to get it fresh if you can, it makes a difference.

Their alt is exceptional so when I came across this one I had to give a try. Not bad, its a pretty straight-forward, though somewhat subdued hefe. Pours a nice hazy hay color with a weak head (for a wheat beer). A light, citrusy lemon aroma. The flavor is a bit milder than most of the style, but its still go that refreshing citrus spice and mellow grain malt character, along with a nice sweetness. A somewhat thin, grainy finish.
Not blow away by this one; while it was a solid, refreshing hefe, it was just a tad on the thin side. Still, give it a try.

Appearance: cloudy , pale honey/yellow with a bit of a light orange tinge. The head is big 3 inch , lasting white froth.
Smell: Nice and rich , wheaty nose on this one. Some citrus , lemon zest , banana, some coriander spice , and a hint of yeast.
Taste: Light but full of good flavor. Lightly citric , twangy / tart, full, and fresh wheat flavor , some clove and coriander , some very light hoppiness , and a bit of yeasty dryness in the finish.
Mouthfeel: Very light and refreshing , mildly creamy , with a slightly dry finish.
Drinkability: A very tasty and drinkable Hefe Weizen. Very nice balance of flavors and refreshing qualities.

Pours a five finger white head that fades quickly to a ring leaving traces of lace, thick layer of yeast left in bottle. Cloudy light amber color. Light carbonation and light bodied. Piney nose. Starts with a sweet piney flavor, can't taste the yeast, nice wheat. $2.75 for a 500ml bottle from John's Market Tigard, Or. And the worthless drivel on the bottle - best before end 88 10 58. ???

$8.29 4 pack (.5 liter bottles) 5.20% Best before end: 881071?!?
Appearance:
Pours an opaque cloudy banana yellow with hints of orange at the core. Tight white pillow foam an inch deep sits on top and settles slowly.
Aroma:
Bready with intense spicy black pepper, sharp and pungent.
Taste/Mouthfeel:
Peppery and tingling on the tongue. Some banana notes seep in by midsip but there is no sweetness. Finishes dry and spicy with notes of a belgian triple. Love the flip top cap, perhaps even more than the beer. Not the best hefeweizen out there, but I would drink this again if offered it.

Pours out to a yellow hazy color with a light head of white foam billowing at about 1/2 inch. Aromas of bananas and clove, just like any other hefe. Taste is very light bodied to the point that it takes away from the enjoyment of the flavor. Light bananas, malt, light spice and a drop of light floral hops. Mouthfeel was zesty and bubbly, but didn't make up for what it lacked in flavor. Drinkability is average. I'd have this again, if it were offered. There are better German hefe's out there.

I wanted a good weizen to drink during the Italy and Germany game, and this one didn't disappoint. Overall a good "lighter" beer, as in that it didn't weigh you down or fill you up too much. Kept it's crisp taste for a while, and also had a little hint of smokiness in it. The citrus was light enough, but still had a presence in the taste. Not much to really complain or rave about in this beer, as it didn't suprise me, nor make me wish I had a different one.

Swing top pint from Liquid Solutions. Nice peachy colour and delightful wheat and yeast fuity aroma, an orange julep fragrance. Somewhat creamy weizen, great with supper. Some spices in taste, carbonation is apparent. Very enjoyable though not the best I have had of this style.

I've been trying to determine what the spicy aftertaste is. My girlfriend thinks it's nutmeg.
Anyway, good color, about right for a weizen. Good taste, not too wheaty, not heavy, nice and light. You can taste the hint of spices. Very drinkable, since it's light and easy on the stomach.
This has to be one of the better hefeweizens out there. Bonus points for the grolsh style bottle, perfect for homebrewers like myself who are concerned with caps.

Schwelmer Hefe Weizen
16.9 oz brown bottle w/ swing top. Great bottles.
Best before end date of 88 10 51 on back label
Pours a light yellow golden haze. Mini bubbles race to the top of the glass.
Awesome nose with strong whiffs of bubblegum, bananas, random fruit and cloves.
Zesty, pressured bubble sensation on the tongue. Light fruit flavors with a funky clove presence.
Very drinkable and thirst quenching on this hot, first day of June.

Be careful with this baby on the pour. Foamy, loose head rises up quickly and maintains itself pretty much all the way down, sparse lacing. Light cloudy pale body.
Bananna is the theme here, but there is a slight spiceyness, maybe some clove or exotic type fruits. A bit of citrus, a sweet citrus, no rind to be found. Slightly bready in the aftertaste, almost angel food cake like, but it eases off the palate at a nice pace. Carbonation is quite zippy and helps along a rather sweet offering.
Notes: Overall I liked it alot, I've been on a hefe kick lately and have really begun to understand and appreciate this style much more than in past years. This is quite a refreshing offering. Comparatively speaking though I'd have to put this above average for sure. "most" american offerings don't touch this pup.

This is my type of Hefe-Weizen....big on the sweeter banana like aroma and flavors...also some bubble gum, along with a slight sugared lemon flavor...body is medium...creamy texture..
Overall a nice surpise as I had no idea what to expect from this. Just below my favorite hefes but certainly very good and worth drinking.

Bottle dated best before 881060.... whatever the hell that is supposed to mean. Pours a light hazy golden color, with a two finger head which quickly falls. Good amount of lacing.
Aroma smells yeasty and bready, but no real typical hefe esters.
Flavor is crisp, and slightly sour. Wheat character is abundant. I personally would like to see some more banana and clove flavors, but there are none here.
Mouthfeel is silky smooth, with lively carbonation towards the end. Drinkability is good.
Not one of the better german hefe's that I've had, but still a damn fine beer. I could drink this all day long during a hot summer day on the balcony.

I love the Champaign pop out of the swing-top bottle. Pours yellow-orange with minimal yeast. A lovely creamy, pillowy, fluffy white head caps it off, slowly fading, leaving a heavy covering of foam behind. Nice head. Nose is wheat, yeast, and spice, perhaps clove, but too hard to tell. Good hefe nose. Flavor is well balanced, leaning toward sweet at first but working into wheat and light cloves. Some people describe the hefe style as tasting like bananas, but I dont get that at all here. More like apple juice, though watery and subdued. Mouth is watery and bubbly; finish is more wheat and yeast. It's easy to drink quite a few of these.
Overall: A very good hefe, though sweeter than many but great for me.

Schwelmer Weizen pours a cloudy light copper color with a nice head that filled the bulb of my weizen glass from a 16.9 ounce brown swing-top bottle. Definitely banana like aroma, wheat and maybe a little clove. Tastes great. Nice creamy mouthfeel, good spicy flavors. Definitely worth a try.

Poured this beer into a mug from the flip top bottle. It pours a murky golden color. It has a light wheat nose that has a light floral overtone. It has very little head that quickly dissipates and some lacing. It has a slightly flat and medium mouthfeel. It has a smooth hefe-weizen taste that also hints at an "Alt-like" taste in its malty notes. This beer is a little too expensive to be standard of mine but it is a very drinkable beer. I have other hefe-weizen's that I like better but this one is not bad and I would drink one again given the opportunity.

Good presentation; An easy way to win my heart is with a classy pop-top cork. This one releases with a loud crack and pours a very thick, cheerful snow-white head over a thin, straw-colored, only slightly cloudy body.
Smell is average; More wheaty than fruity, with only subtle whiffs of cloves and bread.
Taste also quite average; This hefe didn't live up to my standards. It is an okay wheatbeer, but it didn't shout the sweet fruit aromas and flavors that I've come to love from a good weissen.
Mouthfeel crisp and bubbly, but thin. It didn't excite my entire palate as I'd hoped.
Drinkability - I could drink several of these, but honestly, I wouldn't really want to. My final opinion of this beer is that it it's beer - nothing more. This re-asserts my belief that you get what you pay for.

A fine hefeweizen with a dry bananna finish. So yeasty that you can't even make out light on the other side when held up to the bottle. Bananna flavor was average, not overwhelming. Had a bit of a burnt wheat flavor, pleasant aftertaste. An above average Hefe, not an allstar though. Some stronger phenolic character would be advised. 2.69 at Hollingshead

Hugely murky dark gold. The beer is almost brown in the center of the glass and is brighter amber at the edges. The massive, cream colored cap is tight-bubbled and looks to be sticky. Unfortunately, there isn't much lace. I love the chock full o' hefe look though.
The nose is a keeper as well. Banana and clove are present and accounted for, especially the latter. I appreciate the fact that the nose is impressively aromatic and that I don't need to risk dipping my nose in order to appreciate its charms.
Schwelmer Weizen is one of the more flavorful hefes that I've had in many a month. The rock solid wheat malt base favors firm over soft and tangy over sweet. Given the yeast storm visible in the glass, it isn't surprising that the banana esters and the ground clove are on the aggressive side. Good, I like aggressive beer. This one scores a 4.0/5.0 on my hefe weizen banan-o-meter.
The finish is long, with sweet overtaking sour and clove outlasting banana. In sum, this beer possesses a kaleidoscopic flavor profile. The mouthfeel is in the vicinity of medium for the style. The lightly sticky finish makes it feel a fraction more full and the abundant carbonation makes it feel a fraction more light.
This is my first beer from Brauerei Schwelm and I have to say that I'm impressed. Any hefe weizen that loads up my glass with this much yeast is well on its way to making a favorable impression. I haven't heard Schwelmer Weizen mentioned when the roll call of the best German hefes is announced, but it deserves an honorable mention at the very least.

.5 liter bottle. Pours out hazy yellow with a very creamy looking head. The aroma is banana with some lemon and vanilla. Creamy banana flavor. Sweet vanilla flavor too. Not much spice or hop flavor. Some lemon. Mouthfeel is very creamy. It could be a little more crisp. Dinkability is good. This beer is very refreshing and pretty tasty.

Very yummy. Flip top cap popped with aroma fizz of wheat. Poured a beautiful hazy goldenrod. Great carbo head that settled to a gentle cloudy lacing. Lots of banana and lemon smells, with a background of spicey bread. Had a citrusy tart front taste, with a good creamy banana middle, and refreshing peppery clove spices towards the end with a well balanced malty bread over all. Slightly warming at the end.Has that familar bavarian taste that I enjoy so much. This hefe has everything I like in my hefes. Expiration date says best before end 881058. Now when is that exactly? I think it's pretty best right now.
