Tap in a shaker at Players inside Doubletree Westshore. Light brass color with a well laced thin white head. Faint grapefruit aroma. Flavor is one dimensional. Resinous bitterness throughout with no detectable malt flavor. Quenching but leaves a lot to be desired.

A-cloudy golden orange wit a nice frothy cream colored head

S-creamy orange hops. Sweet smelling, almost as if it had vanilla to it...which reminds me of SN Celebration. Slight aged aspect to it.

T-comes in with a decent taste of bitter hops, but mostly a fistful Florida citrus. It's really citrusy, similar to a fresh cut orange. It's a lasting flavor that continues as an after-taste. It's a good clean flavor, with out much of the aged aspect found in the nose.

M-good creamy carbonation with a creamy finish

O-I'm pretty impressed with this. It's an extremely quaffable ipa. Great balance of flavor and bitterness. I could see me loving a bunch of cans of these on a sunny Florida beach....at least if I were to ever get bored of Jai Alai first.

Poured chilled from can in tall ale glass

A: dark orange, cloudy; thin but creamy head; moderate carbonation
S: sweet hops, traces of orange, nicely persistent
T: aggressive hop flavor is the first thing to hit the palate; not very sweet (i.e., finishing hops minimal methinks); highly complex; grain flavor strong
M: thick and heavy

First had: on tap at...er, I forget, but I sampled it again at the brewpub in Tampa.

This was probably the best beer I had from TBBC, and that isn't saying much. Orange-amber pour, clearish, with a moderate white head that displayed average retention and lacing. Nose was generally hop-forward, citrusy, floral, distant pale malts. Taste was similar, crisp C-hops, balanced out with pale male sweetness, perhaps more resembling an APA than an authentic IPA. Light-medium body, and decently drinkable, but nothing tremendous.

Poured a cloudy dull amber, lots of sediment from the bottom of the can, two fingers thick dense, offwhite colored head. Settles to a thin ring, nice sheet of lace down the glass. Smell: caramel, dried apricot, hopping is leafy, mildly earthy and citric. Taste: bitterness dominated... primarily earthy and medicinal, with orange citrus and a little grapefruit peel coming in mid-sip. Lots of caramel and some biscuit in the back. Medium bodied, creamy, semi-sugary, piney and sweet citrus in the finish. Raw in a lot of aspects, but still enjoyable. From pint can, no freshness date.

Excited to see the Tampa Bay Brewing Co. canning beer! It's been years since I had this on tap at their brewpub.

A cloudy light amber with a lot of sediment and a big stick head. Floaties don't bother me, but I bet many would be put off by its appearance.

Nice hop aroma of citrus and earth.

Excellent taste: It's quite bitter with citrus-peel-like hop flavors. They call this a West Coast IPA, and I agree: it's dry with the emphasis on the hop flavors and sharp bitterness rather than a semblance of balance from the malt. Slight metallic notes from the hops

Nice solid body.

I remembered this beer being excellent on tap at the brewpub and the canned version maintains that standard. A must-try for hopheads.

Pour had a huge light mocha colored head. Light orange body. I do notice a bit of floaties (im hoping hops). Out of the can, I got a good amount of resinous, piney, and even a touch of spicy grapefruit zest, but all that aroma escaped when I poured it. Hint of spruce and resin, but mostly slick balanced smell and flavor. Hops have truely faded, but the malt bill is slick and light enough to showcase what used to be a piney, zesty, resinous hop profile (at least thats what I got from the smell and light body). Body feels light and slick. With no hop bitterness, it goes down easy and smooth.

No date on the can, so idk.

16oz can poured into a Stone Imperial glass. A very light amber color that is very clear in appearance. Medium amounts of average sized carbonation bubbles lead to quite a large two finger head that is sea foam in color and appearance. Lace is quite sticky at the moment and already leaving some patchy patterns from the falling head. Lace does stick to the end. Quite nice.

Smell is a little musty and malty. Some dark citrus, blood orange or pink grapefruit. Earth, grass and yeast. Not my type.

Taste is at first all malts and yeast. This does subside a bit and let the hops come through with a sweet and bitter taste. Some yellow grapefruit and maybe an under ripe orange. The dank musty flavors come back after a lick or two of the lips.

Mouth is crisp but smooth. Carbonation is on the round to spritzy side. The body is medium and the finish is average and dry.

Overall I wasn't a real fan of this one. The same old story. East Coast makes West Coast IPA but fails. I'm not sure if it's the choice of yeast, malt or hop but the taste of earth, grass and soggy bread overpowers the citrus hops. Thanks to bluedevil23 for this poker payment.

From 16oz tallboy to Bruges hybrid glass on 6/23/12
*From notes

-- Thanks to UMCaner74 for always takin' care of me --

A: Straight up orange in color. A good pour yields a 2.5 white head. Speaking of white, it looks like a snow globe, as I'm getting lots of tiny white floaties that fall from the head to the bottom of the beer. Decent lacing rims the glass as I drink.

S: Mostly pine-like hops. There's a touch of bitter grapefruit in there too. Not as floral or explosive as I would have liked.

T: East Coast bittering hops all the way. I'm not sure what it is about FL IPA's, but I'd think that due to the sweltering heat, you'd want to brew a tropical, fruit forward IPA. But this, like so many others, is very malt forward. As it wraps up, it dries out the palate a good bit.

M: Velvety and soft. The feel here really jumps in and helps to save this one, as it's creamy, dense and really easy to put back.

O: Certainly not a bad beer, it's rather just...I don't know...a beer? If you're in need of hops, this will suffice I guess. But it's not one I'd reach for over other (and better) hop offerings that await me on the shelf. A solid tick, but not much more.

Served at the TBBC bar in Ybor City

A: hazy amber, the head disappears quickly.
S: not much to speak of - would be nicer if the aroma was stronger.
T: bitter grapefruit
M: the carbonation is really high- giving this a dry finish

Overall, this is a good beer, although its imbalanced in its thin malt profile. There's a nice bitterness that fades quickly. I wouldn't hesitate to get this one again.

Poured from 16 oz. can into pint glass.

A: Pours a nice copper color, with a good bit of haze that develops. 1 1/2 finger head forms, but dissipates relatively quickly. Streams of bubbles visible.

S: Citrus & pine hops dominate, but as you wait a moment some malt presence (sweet & bready) starts to show up. The aromas seem diminished here a bit.

T: A bit of a grapefruit hops punch up front, but it fades quickly into a generic hop bitterness flavor that the sweet-ish biscuity malts can't keep up with. There is an almost sour flavor at the end that stays around with the hop-bitter hang.

M: Nice and light, fairly bubbly mouthfeel; very drinkable. Alcohol presence well-hidden.

O: I've had this beer on-tap multiple times, and always thought it was a well-above average IPA. This is my first shot with it since they started canning and I'm more than a little disappointed. It's not a bad IPA in this incarnation, but not nearly what it is at the brewpub itself.

A: A bit cloudy for an IPA but beautiful marmalade color. Looks great as the sun shines through it here on my back porch on a beautiful Florida afternoon. Bright white head that quickly rushes up the side of the glass and disappears nearly as quickly.

S: big hops up front with some grapefruit and lemon behind it. Par for the style - smells like the hops will dominate.

T: fresh hops followed by citrus and a bread and buttery finish. Pleasant, but again, in line with the style. 80 IBUs are very present.

M: a bit thin and maybe a bit underwhelming. More quenching than hearty.

O: still avery good effort that translates well to the can. Looking forward to more output from my favorite local pub (hopefully the porter next!). Cheers.

Pours a mostly clear golden orange with a big, foamy white head that has good retention. Swirls of lace coat the glass nicely. The aroma is grapefruit, balanced out by some light caramel malt sweetness. The flavor is more of the same, with a good balance between the caramel malts and striking grapefruit hop bitterness. Medium bodied with a sticky, resiny finish. Pretty good IPA. I have had Double IPA's with less body than this.

Got this can in a recent trade. Thanks Al! PT sized can...

A: A filtered completely clear orange colored brew with a 3/4 inch off white head that fades at a decent pace to a bubbly lace lake atop the brew. Good.

S: A malty brew with a mild earthy orange citrus blended in. A mild lemon on the back. Ok.

T: It starts with a sweet maltiness which quickly fades into a bitter hop wall. Hops start with a lemon and with a sugary bitter orange peel. Decent.

M: Medium body with a great carbonation. A sweet malty finish.

O: This is a decent beer. Not one of the best in the style, but good to try if you like IPA's.

Poured from a hand labeled 16oz tallboy can, part of the brewerys first batch of 2000 cans. 7% abv and 80 ibus

This beer is really a treat, pretty color, nice smell, great head, lots of creamy lacing, and great taste. Its hard to believe I just poured this out of a big can.

The taste is highly american hops with a nice malt backbone. The malt isn't sweet or caramel, but more of warm bready thickness that comforts the hop assault.
Hops are a fresh fruity citrus hop without being too soapy. This drinks like nearly a double ipa, yet it holds back instead of going all the way. The taste is a little unique too, I'd say its fruiter then some, with more floral/citrus/freshness in the taste and less soapy/bitter like some IPAs. I'm about 3/4 done with this beer now, and my mouth is pretty coated in hoppy beer goodness. I'll say the mouthfeel is pretty epic!

Prost!

Orange hued and slightly cloudy for the style. Two finger creamy white head is beautiful but faded fast. Lacing is descent.

The aroma is big on citrus, especially grapefruit. Orange zest and floral notes of honey suckle and orange blossom are on top of a lightly toasted bready backbone with caramel notes.

The flavor follows. Bright citrus dominates a light bread background. Nothing that distinguishes this from other IPAs. Great, but average. Mostly grapefruit.

The mouthfeel is a bit thin, but overall ok.

This taste great and has great balance, but kind of one dimensional (grapefruit).

Poured on-tap at the Tampa Bay Brewing Co brewery in Ybor City. The beer was served in a pint glass, and it is a very slightly hazed copper coloring with a thin film of head. Wet, resinous hops aroma that is slightly sweet. Effervescent citrus notes on the nose, also. Flavors are dark roasted sweet malt with a dry, peppery hopping on the undercurrent. Reminiscent of English IPAs. Darkly sweet malty aftertaste, with peppery spice and slight cedar characteristics. Slightly dry, slightly slick finish. Good flavor that stays consistent and doesn't overpower. Good drinker.

Had this on tap at the Tampa Brewing Co, pours a nice hazy orange with moderate lacing. The smell is nice with hops and citrus. However, the beer taste plain, like any other run in the mill IPA. I was expecting more from this beer, but decent drinkability.

Pours a nice, rich, clear darkish amber color. A well-sized, slightly off-white head with decent retention and mssive amounts of lace left behind.
Smell is slightly sweet, citrusy with malt and hops.
Taste is hops in the foreground but not harshly, malt backing it up with a very light citrus note.
Somewhat dry, medium body with a light effervescence. Leaves a light coating on the tongue and in the throat but it isn't a big deal. Overall, a good brew that I would have again (even though the style isn't my first choice). Not a harsh or brutal bitterness that some IPAs have, much more drinkable and enjoyable.

I am Completely writing this reveiw from memory:

A: It was a cloudy pale orange with a white bubbly head mostly deminishing. The brew had great lacing throughout the glass and also had an abundance of visible carbonation.

S: On the nose it had a strong citrus hops (Grapefruit) aroma with notes of orange zest.

T: The taste was full of citrus hops in the beginning. However one could still taste the malty backbone of the brew in the background. It was well balanced and a delicious beer.

M: This beer was very smooth, crisp, light bodied with lively carbonation and very refreshing.

D: It was very delicious and definately a must if I ever return. I enjoyed this beer very much and it would be scrump-u-lesant on a hot summer day.

Not sure why this shows as retired since it is a year-round offering at TBBC.

Had this one on cask 3-12-09

Pours a cloudy pale orange with a nice rich foamy white head that laced down the glass consistently.

Aroma is pithy citrus bitterness with a bit of malt sweetness hiding in the background. Orange Pith, Grapefruit, maybe a touch of wood resin.

Taste is full on hops. Drinks very much like a double IPA and at the ABV it's pushing that level. Quite bitter but tasty.

Mouthfeel is a bit astringent but otherwise drinks very easily and smooth and slick as far as the body goes.

Drinkability is not so good. It's a palate killer and has a high ABV. Nice if you are popping in for just one.

Served on tap in a pint glass:

Contrary to what is stated, I had this beer last evening. The beer was a very nice reddish orange color with a nice two finger head. The beer presented itself very well. The aroma was almost all hops, but in a big way, with a hint of a floral aroma. The taste, all hops all the time. Very nice strong hoppy flavor to it, that is really all that I got, but it is really all that I want out of an IPA. The carbonation was as expected, noticeable but not so much that it took aware from the beer and it had a really nice bitter, dry aftertaste. Overall, highly drinakble beer.

Served on-tap in a clear pint glass

A: Orange hue with tall spiky head and beautiful retention and lacing

S: Grassy and floral hops with a pretty substantial pale malts aroma

T: A bit understated and disappointing based on all of the other components. Both malty and hoppy, but just not enough of a clear identity of one or the other, such that neither the malt nor the hops prop up and better the other. Somewhat muted floral hops bitterness after nutty malt flavors.

M: Very slick and coating which I liked. Smooth and pleasant hops aftertaste.

D: Easy to drink and enjoy, but you get the feeling that one more push could really elevate this beer to something special.
