Style | ABV
American Pale Ale (APA) |  6.00% ABV

Availability: Year-round. bottle (49), on-tap (5)

Notes:
Our American style Pale Ale is a hop lover's dream. We craft this copper colored ale to supply a moderate bitterness and an aggressive hop flavor and aroma. Willamette hops pitched early in the boil give a clean, soft bitterness. Late kettle hops include Northern Brewer, Simcoe, and Chinook for plenty of pungent pine and citrus character. Judicious amounts of four specialty malts add counter and depth. Expect a medium bodied brew with an assertive, complex flavor and a dry finish.

Pours a clear golden color with a small, white head that leaves little to no lacing,

Smells of grainy malt and some floral hops.

Tastes of a solid grainy malt base with some overlaying hops. Malts lead off with a biscuit and grain feel followed by a slight sugary sweetness. Touches of floral and earthy hops come in and add a slight astringent bitterness. A bit of fruitiness comes in as well.

Mouthfeel is medium-light with a slightly crisp amount of carbonation.

Overall, this is a little different than I remember, but is still a solid addition to the Legend lineup.

A: Dark copper brew with about 1/2 a finger's width of white head with moderate retention and lacing.

S: Biscuity malts, grassiness, and slightly floral hops with a touch of grapefruit. Not a very potent smelling beer.

T: Nice toasted malt backbone is almost immediately overwhelmed by the bitter hops. The flavor brings hay, a slight citrusy hop flavor and a lot of bitterness, almost too much.

M: Fairly light-to-moderate body, with a decent amount of a carbonation and some hop oiliness.

O: It's a pale ale. Nothing too spectacular or interesting, but fairly well balanced and drinkable. A good middle-of-the-road beer, but there are other pale ales that I'd drink first.

Poured one and a half bottles into an imperial nonic a clear rich copper with a large sticky white head that held like glue to the glass leaving a full ringe of lave as it settled into a frothy mass.Leafy hops and lightly toasted bread in the nose, not much sweetness.Very balanced on the palate with minty/leafy hops mixed with a slightly sweet and toasted bready malt base,a tinge of brown sugar wich was a bit odd came into play the finish as well.A pretty solid pale, not as hopped as many APA's but it has nice flavors.

From notes on 02/23/12:
Bottled in 2011, but can't read the full date as it has been partially rubbed off; Poured in a pint glass.

A - 1-1/2" off-white fluffy head with nice retention; Appearance is crystal clear with a medium amber color; Visible carbonation within the glass; Decent patches of lacing left behind

S - Nice balance and presence in the smell; Good amount of caramel, toasted bread, and roasty malts with a good showing of piney, herbal, and lightly floral hops

T - Close to the nose with a nice balance between caramel and toasted bread and toffee malts, and piney, herbal, and hints of citrus hops; Mild shot of bitterness present in the first half of the taste

M - Good amount of carbonation; Medium bodied; Fairly dry finish

O - I'm not sure I have had this beer before now, but I thought Legend did a nice job here. It's a well rounded beer, with a pleasant aroma and a nice, balanced flavor that brings enough of a punch from both the hops and malts. I am still working my way through the year-round offerings from Legend, but the pale ale is one of my favorites thus far.

Bottle received from funkyaudio in US/Can BIF. Thanks! Undated bottle pours into a nonic around 4C.

A: Foams out the top when popped and it had been sitting on the door for a week. Copper and hazy with half a glass of never ending head...
S: Hard to get at first through the head. Soapy. Black pepper. Sweet malts. A hint of fruit hop.
T: A real odd APA. A cloying body with lots of molasses and licorice. A touch of bitterness in there and no real hop presence. Meh is barely enough to measure my ambivalence to this beer.
M: Crisply carbonated with a sticky and sticking sweetness.
O: Dissapointing. Really, really disappointing. More of a malty fake Oktoberfest than an APA. Hello, where are the hops?
