8 oz tap pour into a snifter at Silver Creek in Cedarburg, WI.

A - Completely black pour with a one-finger tan head. Moderate retention resulted in a thin layer and loose ring of bubbles as well as tiny specks of lace.

S - The deep roasted malts have a little rye bread nose with some toffee and caramel notes as well. Bittersweet chocolate is a big player in the aroma of this Baltic porter while the finish has a small kiss of hops. Smells a bit thin. I started picking up fruity, light berry nuances as it warmed up too.

T - The flavor and feel is a little more rich than the nose lets on. Smooth but bold bittersweet chocolate. Lots of roasted malts and a mild sweetness. Light hops on the finish contribute a floral hint.

M - Smooth and somewhat silky with a rich feel and borderline full body.

D - Solid porter with a rich flavor profile and great mouthfeel. Probably Silver Creek's best offering.

On tap at the Brewpub in Cedrburg. Pours black with a half finger of light tan head that retains poorly and leaves no lacings.

Aroma is of lightly roasted malts and a distinct butter/butterscotch character, reminiscent of Sprecher infections. The butterscotch note tends to work moderately well with this style, and this is no exception.

Taste is more of the same with the now familiar butter/butterscotch character. Though infected, the brew works well, but ends up falling into the 'Silver Creek' category: infected with a mildly watered down character.

Mouthfeel is full bodied, hearty, and the infection inparts a slickness that works with the flavors, but leaves a negative taste on the palate.

Drinkability is good, though the infection hurts the drinkability. However, a bit of ignorance will turn this into a drinkable porter. Could be better, but still one of the better brews from Silver Creek.

On tap at the Silver Creek Brew Pub.

Poured a dark black with a large sized tan head. Aromas of licorice, dark fruits, chocolate, and light roast. Tastes of licorice, raisins, and chocolate. Very light coffee finish - overall this Porter was on the sweeter side.

I'd had this beer last year at a festival, and I'd been wanting to visit Silver Creek ever since. The brewpub is very cool, and this beer is quite unique, offering a lot of bourbon character in place of the rich roastiness most commonly found in this style.

It was served in a brandy glass or tulip and was opaque with an inviting tan head. Presentation was very wine-like. Smell was rather bourbon-y. Flavor was a bourbon and oak flavor. It was good, but wasn't the quite dry roastiness I've come to associate with better porters. Mouthfeel is that of large and uneven bubbles. It is quite unusual, but I didn't love it.

This is a wonderful brew. It's got an absolutely georgous head light and frothy with a slight brownish hue. This is an extremely smooth porter. It has a chocolate and coffee taste to it. It also get much better with age. The standard batch is a 6 month barrel. For this holiday season they had a year old barrel. This was very good and full of flavor and much smoother than normal. Many a nights have past by drinking this beer. If you have never made it to silver creek in the small town of cedarburg wisconsin, try to make a point of it.

Thanks to a particular motorcycle-riding woman for sending me the growler! ;)

Nearlyopaque, but the light that shines in shows a deep ruby colour. Head is dark tan, but rather thin.

Smell is chocolate, coffee, and a little raisin Somewhat smoky-sweet under that. Very nice!

Flavour is a bit sweeter than expected, rather smoky-chocolatey. Some slightly bitter coffee notes swell up after a bit, and there's just a bit of hoppy quality right at the end. I rather like this one.

The carbonation is rather tight, giving an almost burning sesnsation right up front. Liquid under is thick, but not overbearing.

I could make a session out of this easily. The carbonation gives a point or two off- it's just a little too hard and fast.

Murrayswine brought back a growler of this from his most recent trip to the brewpub, and we opened it up at the store today.

We poured the beer at room temperature, and it was a dark, stoutish brown capped by a fizzy cola-esque head. Its taste started off big on roastedness with smooth chocolate accents; the nose was a little more diverse, featuring some musty peanut-shell nuttiness and strong alcohol notes in addition to the roastedness and chocolate.

Initially, then, I liked it a lot, but as my palette adjusted, the Baltic characters came more clearly into focus, heaps of dark fruits that overwhelmed the delicious regular porter flavors. The alcohol grew in intensity, adding a bit of spiciness.

No hop presence.

As my glass went on, I liked the beer less and less, but that isn't to say that I disliked it. It was a good Baltic porter, not something I'd want to have more than a glass of though.
