Notes:
Labatt Blue is the best-selling Canadian beer in the world. Introduced in 1951 as Labatt Pilsener, it was named for the colour of its label by fans of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers football team. Blue was the first brand in Canada with a twist-off cap and won the silver medal in the International Lager category at the 1998 Brewing Industry International Awards. Labatt Blue, brewed using specially selected aromatic hops, is a well-balanced, fully matured, full-flavoured beer with a fruity character and a slightly sweet aftertaste.

Tulip
A - golden straw in color, 1/8 finger very white head that dissipates in moments and no lacing
S - lots of grain, funk, very sweet malt, slight hop note and very breast
T - not bad, better than bud, very sweet, light malts, grains, some hopish notes and a bit of spice
M - light bodied, medium plus acidity, low complexity, no balance and low finish
D - very easy to drink, perfect for tailgates, lakes, beach parties and such. Not much going on but not terrible
Final thought - this is a great alternative to bud and the like. Only $1 a pop, not bad

A. A light pale yellow with a thin off white head that had a little lacing and retention and well carbonated.
S. Has the typical grains and malt smell that most mass produced Canadian and American commercial beers have.
T. The taste is a grainy and biscuit taste with some hops in the back to give your tastebuds some kick.
M. A very clean, crisp and easy drinking beer.
O. One of the very few commercial beers out there that I would buy again when I am low in money. The best AAL out there.

Poured a pillowy two finger head with some retention upon a straw yellow body, clear and clean appearance
Smell is grainy malt, bread, light hops, floral
Taste follows the nose, some corn in there but not overdone
Mouthfeel is light to medium bodied with plenty of carbonation, slight bitterness in the aftertaste, very drinkable
A brew that will always have a place in my fridge.

In a pint glass:
A: light yellow-gold with a one finger off-white head, the head is creamy looking and reduces to a thin ring fairly quickly
S: subdued bland hops through rice and corn, no skunkiness
T: exactly the same as the smell
M: light and crisp, sessionable, subtle bitter finish, no aftertaste
O: right on for the style, but just an average beer for me, probably better with food

Draft
Appearance – Clear yellow colour with a small size fizzy white coloured head. There is an average amount of carbonation showing and there is almost no lacing. The head lasted for around 3 minutes before it was gone.
Smell - Malts, bread, corn
Taste & Mouth - The beer has an above average amount of carbonation. I can taste bread/grains and malts. There is a corn syrup sweetness as well. The beer finishes with a grainy slightly sweet aftertaste.
Overall – My hockey team swears by pitchers this stuff after games.. I guess it serves a decent purpose in the refreshing/cheap beer department. Not something I would select.

Pours a clear, light yellow with a little white head that disappears.
Smells like corn flakes and grain, very mild yeast notes and a bit of floral hops, light fruitness.
Grains and cereal again in the taste. Slight floral hop presence. Clean, watery finish
Mouthfeel is watery and very carbonated.
At $1.25 for a 24 oz can, the price is right. Not a bad choice out of it's category.

A: Yellow golden, clear, pours with very little head that disappears instantly. No lacing.
S: Classic clean beer smell. Light and easy. Wheat, grain.
T: The taste of this beer always reminds me of beer and peanuts at a baseball game. Brings back great memories - but it's nothing too special. Just a really really easy to drink refreshing delicious beer.
M: Light carbonation. Easy on the palate, slight tingle.
O: Just a descent all around beer. Of the basic cheap beers, Labatt Blue is a favorite. Easy to drink and as refreshing as water.

Can't beat a grocery store $.88 24oz. special.
Pours like any other AAL, real light gold with a big fizzy head. Nothing special on the smell, corn, rice, no hops or malt in the smell.
Taste reminds me of Miller or Coors. Has that 'cooked vegetable' taste that I don't know how to describe. The pilsner style has to be what reminds me of Miller.
Real light on the palate. You could pound these all day, eh.
Overall, I recommend this for anyone looking to get drunk fast. Easy to drink, not bad tasting compared to other similar options, and if it's $.88 per 24oz tall boy, go for.

A can at the Meyer family reunion. Secretly consumed so as to not arise the passions of others.
A: The lager is pale and yellow, clear with a white head that slows pops up through the mouth of the can.
S: The nose is innocuous, grainy and not much more. I can smell the coldness and the refreshment that it offers.
T: As you'd expect, cold the lager is flavorless. As it warms, light cereals and biscuit pop up. Hops are nonexistent. The beer gets worse as it warms.
M: The mouthfeel is dull but quite drinkable. When cold, I'm guessing that I could have gotten through the can in under five minutes.

Beer pours a yellow. The color is noticibly darker than your usual American lager.
The smell is nothing much, maybe a little hoppy.
The beer's taste is initially sweet, almost apple juice like. The finish is refreshingly bitter.
Overall, not a bad beer. Goes well while watching hockey.

picked up a 12 pack from the Safeway near Alaska Junction in West Seattle to get drunk about a month ago. found one hiding in the back of the fridge. 12 oz bottle poured into pint glass.
pours 1/8" head with no color that dissipates quickly. minimal, slippery lacing. piss yellow body with a few bubbles throughout.
smells like Canada. ha...East Hastings, maybe. smells of corn, weird hops. malty, boozy aroma.
tastes like this should be a craft beer only website. tastes like every other "american adjunct lager" or whatever the hell. tastes identical to a warm, dry sprite - even though it's fresh out of the freezing fridge.
mouthfeel is comparable to a pale, low alcohol, cheap champagne. fritzy and uncomfortable. club soda-esque.
Labatt!! whatever that means in French, it must be close to the f-word.

I brought this back from a recent trip to western NY, seems very popular in downtown Alfred. Pours a crystal clear deep golden yellow color with a thinnish white head that dissipates quickly. Looks like carbonated apple juice. Smells of grainy malt, hints of honey, slightly earthy hop aroma. Taste is grainy, grassy, slightly sweet with hints of honey. Medium to low body, medium level of carbonation, sweet watery mouthfeel. This is a bit better than a typical macro lager, clean, a bit sweet, nothing objectionable just nothing remarkable either.

12 oz bottle served in a pint glass.
Pours a light yellow-gold with an ample off-white head. The head is nicely creamy but reduces to a thin ring and very thin 'islands' within minutes. Medium+ carbonation is visible.
S - The nose is about as expected: weak, tainted by adjuncts, and little influenced by hops. It isn't bad, however, with no real off-odors.
T - Labatt Blue's flavor is definitely on the lighter end of the scale for lagers. It does have enough flavor to spark a clear sensation of sweet grains followed by a very mildly bitter finish. The clean finish leaves a reasonably durable impression of malt with a more ephemeral impression of hops.
M - crisp in the mouth with a rather thin body.
O - No real negatives other than the lack of substance.

Pours a clear gold with a quarter inch of head and little retention. Smells grainy but little else of note. Taste is grainy with a little hoppy bitterness and some sweetness finding their place in the finish. Mouthfeel is smooth, clean, and crisp.
For the style it's not bad. None of those metallic or overly adjuncty flavors one would associate with this style.

For beer like this, a 6th catagory should be added for sound, as the fizz is as audible as a can of Coke. We'll lump that into appearance. Smell is of corn. Taste was a surprising step up from the smell--nothing involving, but a pleasant pilsner sweetness. Taste does not reveal itself more with warming, rather it begins to break down. Despite the good deal I got, it was a mistake to buy this in 24 oz. cans. If you're going to drink this, keep to small serving sizes in order to keep it cold.

Pours a clean yellow color with a white head. In the aroma, a small sweet malt. In the taste, saaz/ pils like hops and a nice maltiness to back it up. A hop bite and lighter bodied mouthfeel, with a small dry maltiness in the aftertaste. Ok, better than most, but still standard.

This is a pretty decent session beer. It smells like sweet grains tastes about the same with the addition of a slight amount of hops. The mouthfeel is very light with a lot of carbonation.
Overall this is a slightly better then average adjunct lager that is good for an after bike ride session beer. Not going to win any awards but it does the trick.

A - Poured into a pint glass. The beer is a clear yellow/straw color. The head dissipates pretty damn quick in a soda pop like fashion. Lacing is non existent.
S - Very light grains, a little sweetness and some faint hops. There is also a bit of a metallic twang to it.
T - Not as offensive as I was expecting. Very light in flavor. Typical of the style. Light bitter hops with just a little graininess. Pretty bland.
M - Mouth feel is light bodied. Smooth enough. Carbonation seems high in the pour but now it seems its all gone. Must have disappeared in the soda pop head.
O - It's drinkable, but why would you want to? Maybe to cleanse the palate and make way for a good beer? I wouldn't buy it again, however it wasn't horrible.

Last reviewed May 2007. That was a bottle; this is a tallboy can. I used to be kind of fond of this stuff but haven't had it regularly in years.
Pours a pale straw, topped with a puffy two-inch white head that is in a hurry to leave. Lots of bubbles imply a high level of carbonation. Smells like most other members of the style; stale malts and adjunct sweetness.
Taste is pretty bland as well. Grainy, pale malts and adjunct sweetness (seems more like rice than corn to me). Slightly dry finish with no real aftertaste. Watery and thin-bodied with high carbonation, this is a prototypical adjunct lager. Nothing outstanding or stomach-turning about it.
Reviewed a can of Molson Canadian last week so it only seems fair to give this one the same treatment. I used to prefer this over Canadian but in recent years my preference has drifted to the Molson end of that spectrum. Blue is a generic, barely-acceptable macro lager.

Poured from the bottle into a nonic glass
A- Poured a clear straw yellow with fizzy carbonation and one finger of frothy white head with no lace.
S- Cereal, sweet grains, and a mild skunk
T- Cereal, sweet grains, corn, pretty nice bitterness on the finish for an AAL Quite sweet
M- Fizzy, refreshing, crisp, thinner mouthfeel
O- This was my college beer. After I graduated I still got 12 packs once in a while to drink along with my craft beers and still have a few of these left over from last year. I like it for what it is a cheap buzz that I liked better than most of the other AALs at the time, not sure if I would still feel that way, but I don't really drink them anymore. Probably my first time drinking this in a glass other than having it in pitchers at the bar. It is definitely quite sweet, but does have a little more bitterness than most AALs IMO. I don't really see my self buying this in the store again anytime soon, but will revisit it at the bars every once in a while.

I kind of wanted a Canadian adjunct to be better but it's was average at best. Poured a bright clear yellowish gold. Almost no head to speak of. Smelled of rice and water. Chemical even. Taste was not so bad, refreshingly crisp. Did have a dry, rice like quality but drinkable. Overall, a drinkable adjunct but unimpressive on a good day.

A - Looks pretty good for the style due to a big soapy white froth of head and bits of lace upon the glass.
S - Very slight pale grain and minerals.
T - Tastes like water. Maybe beer-flavored water, but that is probably a stretch. Nice mineral and grassy herbal finish/aftertaste, which bumps up the flavor a notch in my estimation.
M - Thin body, watery, low but prickly carbonation.
O - Fairly drinkable and quite inoffensive, but it is definitely not above mediocre.

Continuing with the "Blue" theme...
12oz bottle poured into a pint glass. Just had this on tap a few days ago, let's see how it compares. The pour yields the same pale gold with a thin white cap. The nose is just a mild - corn, grass, faint citrus. The mouth is crisp and refreshing still, albeit on the thin side. The flavors seem more pronounced from the bottle (though I think that has more to do with the ice-cold glass my draft was served in - how I hate that). Creamy corn, light malt, mild bitterness. Grainy finish. Not a bad brew. I'd reach for this before many other adjuncts.

Tried for the first time while at Comerica Park in Detroit for a Tigers game. The beer appeared a light golden amber color with a nice white head that held up nicely that dissipated into a thin spotty cap. The aroma was kind of typical, light and grainy. The taste of the beer was better than expected (maybe it was just because I was at the ballpark), but I felt that it was strong than most in its class, but still grainy with no real hint of hops. It has a light feel, was clean, crisp, easy to drink and very refreshing and enjoyable. Overall, not a bad beer by any means.

This has always been one of my personal favorites when I want to drink a quality beer at an affordable price. Whether it is in a bottle or can, Labatt Blue always seems to hit the spot. It has a sweet taste to it with quite a bit of flavor. It's a lot different than other Canadian Imports as a result of that sweet taste. I would definitely recommend it to anyone, especially someone that wants a quality beer without spending a lot of money.
