Notes:
Labatt Blue is the best-selling Canadian beer in the world. Introduced in 1951 as Labatt Pilsener, it was named for the colour of its label by fans of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers football team. Blue was the first brand in Canada with a twist-off cap and won the silver medal in the International Lager category at the 1998 Brewing Industry International Awards. Labatt Blue, brewed using specially selected aromatic hops, is a well-balanced, fully matured, full-flavoured beer with a fruity character and a slightly sweet aftertaste.

The old Blue...I got a free can at the in-laws and decided to try it out, since I haven't had it in about 7 years.
Appears a light straw gold with a small white head that dies off quickly. Lots of carbonation streams rise to the top.
Smell is of carapils, and munich malts, along with Napa cabbage and aluminum.
Taste is of the same but with a bad metallic taste that isn't appealing at all.
Mouthfeel...all metal baby.
Forget it. I had to try it out for old times sake.

OK - this is not my thing, but I was at a party and this is what they had available. Served from 12 oz. can, poured into a blue solo cup.
The pour gave a very limited head that dissipated rather quickly. No real lacing was apparent. Smell was basic mass-market beer smell - no off flavors noticed but nothing to really care about.
When I drank it however, it seemed to be fairly well balanced - but balanced close to water. But then again, for the STYLE, it should be. I found nothing objectionable, but then again I found little to be really interested in, either. But as it warmed in the cup, it still tasted decent - something not the case for too many American Lagers
Mouthfeel seemed thin, which while being true to style is often enhanced by more carbonation, which was missed here.
It would be easy to be a beer snob and belittle this. It is not what I would pick most of the time. But there really wasn't anything WRONG with it. It is a bit blah to my liking, but was fine with for the social gathering, and would likewise be fine to cool off after mowing the lawn on a warm day.

Pours a clear light gold with a foamy beige head that settles to a partial film on top of the beer. Small dots of lace form around on the drink down. Smell is of malt, grain, and grassy aromas. Taste is much the same with grain and slight vegetal flavors on the finish. There is a very mild amount of hop bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a slightly below average beer that is drinkable but the vegetal quality I am getting in the flavor isn't too enjoyable.
