On tap @ the Willimantic Brewing Company (Willimantic, CT) on 9/30/11. Served in a pint glass.
Pours an unfiltered copper, with a ½ finger of bright-white head. This retains with a rich look creaminess that skims the surface and drenches the sides of the glass with a sticky latticework of rich lace. The aroma smells leafy and citric, with a healthy dose of pine mixed in. This mixes in with the underlying sweetness of the malts to impart a fresh earthy twang in the nostrils. This is solid.
The taste has a bite of resins and dry crisp citrus flavor to it up front, with bitter pith and pine being propelled out into the month. There is a solid balancing biscuit sweetness present from the malts which hangs on the edges of the profile but those assertive hop flavors are the main focus here, with a deeply dry lingering feel of pine and rind that hang in the mouth with some strength. The mouthfeel is lively and sharp feeling on the tongue but then gets considerably more slick on the edges, helping this a smooth crispness in the mouth that helps this go down easier than it should.
I enjoyed this, especially as it warmed up some and the bitterness eased a bit and more of that juicy grapefruit flavor from those Columbus hops started to appear. This was flavorful and crisp on the palate, while keeping that 6% body very approachable and pretty easy drinking. This is another well done IPA from here.

Reviewed on 5/23/08. On tap at the brewery. Pours a cloudy light brown with no real head. Aroma of piney and citrusy hops. Flavor is dominated by orange and grapefruit and leaves a bitter finish. The beer is a little too heavy/syrupy and overbearing for an IPA. It tastes good but is not very drinkable.

An enjoyable contribution from Gambrinus for our session at Ohoove's last night. This poured a light amber, yellow-orange color with some haziness and a thick off-white head and decent lacing. The aroma is smooth grapefruit with a pleasant touch of wheat caramel. The flavor is a nice clean citrus with beautiful toffee warmth and a sweet bread note. Middle of the road body with a very smooth mouthfeel. Properly carbonated, all around solid stuff that presents good drinkability! I actually preferred this to the Hop Stoopid that followed it, although I seem to be alone in that assessment. I liked how this brought a bright citrus enjoyment while holding a body you could bite into a bit.

Served on-tap at Willimantic Brewing Co. in a Willibrew pint glass.
A: Poured a hazy caramel color with slight burnt orange and red highlights. A thin head of off-white foam leaves little lace behind.
S: Smells like grapefruit and a little bit of toasted caramel malt.
T: Taste is full on grapefruit and citrus hops, with an oily, sticky unfiltered wheat flavor thrown in. The sweetness and hop resin is a tad cloying, but overall, the bitterness is balanced pretty well, even if hops are a tad sticky.
M: Mouthfeel is medium-full bodied, slick and oily from hop resin.
D: At 6.8% ABV, it's a fairly strong IPA. A pretty tasty, full on citrus hop flavor is the main component here. Cool name, decent beer.
Hip Hop IPA was pretty good, and maybe a little overpowering as far as the grapefruit flavor goes. Not quite overpowering, but getting a little close.
