Long have I been wanting to check out the famed Marikka's Restaurant Und Bier Stube! Upon walking into the restaurant side (as opposed to the bar-only side), I was unimpressed by the lack of atmosphere. It felt rather like a cafeteria than a restaurant. But hey, it's all about the food and (of course) the bier! As a vegetarian, I didn't find much outside of the stalwart salad to try. Ended up with a *repulsively* greasy order of potato pancakes and applesauce. The only thing that saves my food rating from being a 1 was the delicious bread and butter provided at the beginning of the meal. Perhaps a non-Vegetarian would find better food there, though. (Hey, I can only rate what I've experienced.) But the beer list was far from shabby! So many countries! So many different beers! Any beer lover could not bear to try just a few! I'll be back, that's for sure, if not for the potato pancakes, then to feel out their beer list!

The beer list is a menu all to itself. You can visit every day of the year for a beer and still not have the same one twice. Their list of beers on tap is not so impressive, but every so often there is a pleasant surprise. The atmosphere in the bar is typical of just what it is...a bar. There are multiple pool tables, air hockey and darts. They have an outdoor patio for summer drinking and a sand volleyball court. The food is fairly good. I'm pretty tame in what I will eat, so I may not be the best judge of this part of their establishment. Overall, this is where I would chose to be on any night of the week with a beer in my hand. The bartenders get to recognize you after a while and they have always been very nice and quick to suggest something according to my taste. With so much beer, occasionally you will get a bottle that has gone bad or sat around too long.

I made point of stopping here to pay a little tribute to my family's German heritage. Atmosphere is homey (read as "basic, no frills, but clean"). I went in the the restaurant side and was promptly seated, some butter and rye bread at the table. The food menu was what one would expect, all the standards showing up. The beer menu was extensive, and, while a good number of German beers were listed, a multitude of other countries and styles were represented. I ordered a German kolsch and sauerbraten, both of which were quite good. The serving of food was generous. An enjoyable place, with an unusually good beer menu for the town.

Excellent German restaurant and beer bar. I enjoyed a fine German dinner there on June 6, 2004. Eleven draft selections, included nine Germans, New Castle Brown, and Labatt's Blue. Bottle selection is incredible with 300+ imports and a few American craft brews like Anchor and Goose Island. Bottle selection is heavy on Belgian and German ales. Quite impressive! The food was excellent, with a nice selection of wursts all the way to full course German meals. The place was packed, but service was still very good. They have a separate bar section where food may be ordered. Don't pass this place up if you're passing through Lexington, Ky.

An awesome selection of beer greets visitors to Marikka's. The location is distinctly divided into restaurant and bar, but the bar carries the food items as well.
The attraction here is the more than three hundred different beers that are available. Take your wallet, a designated driver, and enjoy an evening of new brews to taste. The food will just enhance the good times.

If you are ever in lexington and are looking for a place that has great German food and a great selection of beer, than look no further than Marikkas. This place has only about 6 or 7 beers on tap, but the have 400 different bottled beers! Their beer list is about 7 pages single spaced front and back, and it will take you forever to decide. I only had a few when I was there, and they were all good. I tried a bitburger and spaten, both on tap with dinner, and finished off the meal with a skullsplitter. The service was very good, considering that there was only 1 waitress working and the dining room was packed. She seemed to know a little about the different brews also. The food is also excellent, I had my personal favorite German dish, jagerschnitzel. It went so well with the bitburger. This place is a can't miss if you are anywhere in central Kentucky.
