Beware: Holiday Wine Cellar only cares about your money. If anything goes wrong with your order from them, they will NOT refund you your money. I had spent over $1,000 there and had been a long time customer, but I had to take them to court to get anything back.
I ordered some beer over the phone, and when I went to pick it up 2 months later, they had sold it to someone who claimed to be my "brother". After requesting my money back for not receiving my product, they rudely insisted that it was not their fault, but mine.
I had to take HWC to small claims to get my money back. Please do not deal with this company.
On another note, this was the management of HWC. This is in no way directed to the front line employees or beer buyers for the company.

Visited this place when I was out in San Diego for a science conference.
Compared to two of the other highest rated places in the area (Total Wine and Beverages4Less), Holiday Wine is by FAR the best place for craft beer. Really elegantly planned store with all the appropriate beers stored in the fridge. They also have a couple of racks of imports (Drie Fonteinen, Mikkeller, etc.) places on the floor of what seems to be a climate controlled place.
Service is pretty much what I'd expect. They have 1 beer guy that'll help you out but there's usually a little wait as they seem understaffed at times. Still though, the beer guys are knowledgeable and helpful and that's all I can really ask for. Cashiers are quick so they can get me off and on my way.
Selection here is much better than at Total Wine and Bev4Less. More Lost Abbey, more Alpine, more imports, more everything. Although sadly, Holiday wine makes it apparent to me that SoCal needs its amazing breweries... they don't get nearly the distribution variety that New York does.
Holiday Wine is a bit pricey but you get what you pay for. A really beautiful store where you can be most assured that your beer is of the highest quality and stored in the best conditions.

On a Sunday - Monday period in Mid October, I did a tour of San Diego breweries, brewpubs and beer stores. All the bottle shops I visited received A+ ratings with a significant number of reviews. My goal was primarily Russian River brews (Pliny, Blind Pig, Supplication) and then WC IPA's that I can't get in Ohio (Alpine, Kern River).
The places I visited in order of ranking...
1. 3 Way tie - KnB Wine Cellars, Beverages 4 Less, Best Damn Beer Shop
2. Holiday Wine Cellar
3. Olive Tree Marketplace
4. Pizza Port Bottle Shop
My stop at Holiday Wine Cellar came on a Sunday morning after a night at Stone and before a day at Lost Abbey.
Pulling into the parking lot I had to admine the Brady-esque architecture of the building. You can make it out to some extent in the BA photo.
They had as many beers as the best places I visited, but they didn't have the key beers I was looking for other than Blind Pig. Very nice import and Belgian selection.
I spent quite a bit of time in front of the coolers looking at beer and the older Asain guy who was stocking the shelves and keeping busy did not bother to ask if I needed any help. The woman cashier looked up Pliny for me and they didn't have it.

I hit up the Holiday Wine Cellar when I go to SD because they are just a great place with a great selection. If I have questions the staff are always knowledgeable and helpful. They go out of their way to search the back for bottles that have run out up front. They have a great selection, I can spend an hour+ just looking through the beer they have. Sometimes they are out of stuff so be prepared for that. I have gone in looking for Alpine beers and left with Pte instead or vice versa. But they are online as well so you can see whats in stock or call. All in all a great place check it out if you are in SD area.

Holiday Wine Cellar is sooper dooper!
Tons of Belgian beers I've never seen anywhere else, special releases clearly labeled on end-cap displays or shelf talkers. Singles available. All the San Diego classics, plus a superb selection of Rogue, Avery, Sierra Nevada, North Coast, and when available Russian River. I've seen a single customer come in and buy the entire stock of Pliny The Elder, so it's not a matter of them not stocking it, it's more that the people in-the-know aren't sharing the wealth. Fantome,la chouffe, Abbaye D Aulne, all killer and very little filler. Comparable only to the Pizza Port bottle shop in the relative area, only this place stocks top shelf booze from across the spectrum plus glassware.
as far as the price goes, you pay for what you get. This isn't Wal-Mart but the prices are fair and average. They have tasting events occasionally as well.
If you're in the area visiting the local craft brew establishments (ie, Stone) this place is an essential stop.

Visited between Stone and Lost Abbey visits on a Friday afternoon. Quite a nice selection, but I was expecting more. I was hoping for more Dogfish, Russian River, Lost Abbey exciting stuff I can't get at home. Mostly just year-round offerings, not much in terms of special releases.
Don't get me wrong - lots of stuff I've never seen or heard of, and a number of $20+ bottles I'd love to own but budget doesn't allow for. I ended up getting a fair mix of bottles I tried on a lark, things I know I love, and things I'm pretty sure I will.
Service was as nice as I expect to get anywhere, friendly, efficient, nothing over the top. No complaints.
Prices were fair - they aren't giving anything away, but not gouging either.
Overall, on par with a well-stocked BevMo or Total Wine. I would go back if I was in the area, but I wouldn't make a special trip from very far away.

I have to say that the krew at HWC is awesome!! KC and Jordan really know how to treat you when you are there! This review is a bit delayed because I made the trip for The Bruery/HWC Collaboration Einers Folly... (Great Beer by the way) I had no idea really what I was in for when I stopped in... this place is badass!! and will always be a destination point on any north county trip!!! Definitely worth the trip for anyone from the rest of SD and anyone that is visiting! and I am definitely gonna be there soon for one of the tastings! Thanks again!

Home sweet Holiday Wine Cellar. Having grown up in Escondido, I've been going to Holiday since I could show my ID, and lemme tell you, they just keep getting better and better.
Their bottle selection is great, including most, if not all regional hard to finds and go-to's. Plenty of imports and special releases too. And if you weren't already overwhelemed enough with the cold box and floor display beer selections, they have a walk-in cooler where they've got plenty of other gems stashed. Plan to spend some serious time here just taking in the spectacle of this real life cellar, chatting with the experienced staff, and browsing the great selections. They also organize all sorts of local brewery tastings in their taproom, downstairs in the cellar. AWESOME!
One of the premier bottleshops in all of San Diego County, it's truly worth the trip if you're anywhere in proximity (*cough* STONE *cough*).

Whenever I go home to San Diego, I always look forward to making a trip up to Holiday. When I lived in Escondido years ago, this was where I shopped. Going back now, I am awed by the selection, although I am sure that is merely due to the number of labels I cannot get in Denver, as opposed to the quality of the beer. That said, the selection here is the best in the area. Everything from AleSmith, Lost Abbey and Russian River, plus pretty much everything worthwhile from the Southern California Region. Also an incredible collection of bourbons and whiskeys, including the Stranahan's Snowflake, which I had never seen outside of the Distillery/Rackhouse. Prices can be a bit high, but the great selection, good customer service and cool ambiance help to make up for it. Highly recommended to anyone within 50 miles.

Drove down to Escondido today to pick up some Einer's Folly (Holiday Wine Cellar's 45th Aniv Ale).
Location was right off the 78 freeway. Walked in the door and was helped right away. Then I took a look around and found the beer section. There was a large selection of beer not in the fridge. A good variety of beers that I don't see very often and I found a few beers that I was unable to locate anywhere else.
I then realized they also had a back walk in fridge stalked with beer. A very nice selection in there as well. Between the fridge and the floor they had a pretty large selection not the biggest, but it had a large variety of less commonly seen beers.
The service was great. I was also looking for another beer and even though they were out of stock, one of the employees offer to see if he had any extra in his personal stash.
Overall great service, great selection, all the beer seemed to be stored properly and prices were on par with everywhere else I've been. I would definitely go back anytime I am in the area.
