Half litre bottle, 5.5 abv. Dark bronze colour, clear. Poured a medium head which died after a short time. Smelled hints of banana, a bit grassy. Balanced malty taste, slight hint of fruit with a bittersweet finish. Fair amount of gas. Very well crafted refreshing lager.

50cl serving in a seidel at the Fassla Keller, Bamberg

A - Golden body with excellent clarity with 3 finger creamy white head. Lacing and head retention are good

S - A little musty. Some biscuit and green grape

T- Light malt biscuit balancing with a faint lemon lime citrus hop bite in a full finish.

M - Medium carbonation/body.

D - Standard tasty franconian helles. A little unique in the finish with the lemony/lime bite quality but provided welcome balance. Nice.

on tap in the brewpub below my accomodation for the night. not sure what the relationship of the two places is

this one's nice and hoppy, with a very good hop aroma coming from what i perceive to be saaz (could be totally off). it's got that spice to it. the beer itself is a light amber with minimal head and no lacing. the body is by no means wimpy, and holds the hops up nicely with a meaningful backbone

Drank this beer in the brewery ausschank. The aroma of the beer has a malty nose with a little butter in it (without being disturbing). The lager is a amber coloured beer that is filtered. The taste of the beer is full but without being sweet. There are malt tones in the taste but enough of bitterness to compensate, a good balance. The beer is bottem fermented and is very drinkable a real session beer. My favourite from the Fassla range.

Had this on tap in 6/11 at the brewery taproom. While their pils tends to get more attention, I personally preferred this brew.
Deep gold color (almost amber) with a fluffy head that doesn't die down...nice.
Straightforward malty sweetness with pale malts taking a lead role, but a little caramel character popping up, too. Hops are there for balance. I'd say it's a tiny bit sweeter than the Munich versions of the style, which I didn't expect. I've noticed that in general up in Franconia. Many of the beers labeled as helles (often simply called "lagerbier") aren't really the same as the helles beers further south.
If you want something simple and good, you could drink these all day. They don't really do 1L mugs in Bamberg, but this beer would be right at home in one.
It made a solid partner to my currywurst and fries, too.
Not really a geeky brew or anything that would "wow" anyone, but I enjoyed it just fine.
It's a little bit like a slightly sweeter (partially amber malt based) helles.

Transparent pale copper with a regular half inch head. Smell is fruity with some caramel. The taste also, revealing caramelized pears, almost burnt, slightly sour. A dry hoppy finish showing notes of grapefruit, lighter than for the pilsner. Mouthfeel is round, lightly bready, the spritzy carbonation refreshes the palate. Quite well balanced, but a little too dry for me.

Sampled on-tap at the brewery pub.

This lager poured a clear, light amber color with creamy, white foam that slowly settled. There was modest carbonation bubbling from the bottom of the glass. The smell was modestly malty with faint hoppiness. The taste was malty with modest hoppiness. Typical German helles lager. The mouthfeel was crisp and dry with medium body and medium carbonation. Overall this was a decent enough lager.

Amber lager with noticeable hoppy tang.

The bottle I purchased in Bamberg lists alcohol at 5.5% rather than 4.8%. Dark amber color in the glass. Modest head, not a strong feature. Rich and malty with a pleasant bite of hops. Fairly aromatic with resiny and floral notes. Leaves a noticeable bitter aftertaste, but not robustly hopped.

Good for a stein but not a favorite. Flavors dull after a few sips.

Snagged a 0.5l bottle of this from a local bar in Bamberg for €2.50 to bring back to my room and quaff while doing my final packing for our flight home. Drained on 27SEP10.

It was a clear, medium-golden/light amber colored offering. Had fair to steady carbo, and a thin, fast-ebbing white head, leaving minimal lace. Nose was grassy, almost spicy even. Though medium-bodied, it was a bit prickly on the tongue.

Slightly bready, subtle sweetness is also present which segues into some bitter hopping. Grassiness is again present, with a touch of herbality. OK for a late-eve thirst-quencher...

On tap at Fässla back in September.

The beer is a clear golden orange body with a white head with tiny bubbles going up. Leaves some lacing. Alright head retention.
Pretty much grain and noble hop with some light sweetness on the nose.
The taste is of grain and a nice mellow noble hop profile.
Light and crisp mouthfeel. Well carbonated.
This was a joy to drink. Don't really do too many beers of this style and it was a treat on a warm Bamberg afternoon.

On tap at the brewery in Bamberg.

A-Pour a clear gold-amber with no sediment. Thick foamy head, copper in color.

S- Malty with a mild grain/green and hints of yeast on the smell. Mild earthy hops provide a modicum of bitterness.

T-Fairly average lagerbier taste. Straw, nuts, minor yeast. A little metallic. Earthy hops present on the finish with a nice balance.

M-Medium bodied with a decent amount of carbonation. Rolls around the mouth. Highly effervescent.

D-A good beer and easy to drink

Overall, not the best Helles I had in Bamberg, but it was up there. Easy drinking. I likely won't seek this out, but I would drink it if I saw it on a menu somewhere.

Served on-draught into a .25 litre beer glass at Fassla in Bamberg. Reviewed from notes.

A: Pours a two finger head which lacks cream, is of bad thickness, and average retention (~2 minutes). Colour is a clear dark yellow.

Sm: Slight caramelized malt and nutty hops. A light aroma.

T: Cream, caramelized malt, some nutty hops, and a crystal hop finish. Complex for a lager. Balanced. Built well for a lager.

Mf: Creamy, smooth, wet, and refreshing. Complements the taste.

Dr: Standard ABV, refreshing, and easy to drink - but of limited quality.

I've had quite a few of these lately and at the end of the day, I like this beer. It's a beer I had overlooked for a while, I think because of it's commonality if that makes any sense.

Tonights beers were butter bombs. Right off the bat, I noticed something was off with the hops too. Almost skunked. But these were fresh brown glass bottles from less than a mile from the actual brewery. I still enjoyed the beer as a good party beer, but something has gone wrong with this batch. Normally a much smoother, more pedestrian (in a good way) lagierbier.

The colour is gold, the liquid clear. The finger thick head is white. No lacing occurs.

DMS notes dominates the smell: Boiled cabbage, canned corn, mixed fresh vegetables. Some sweetness and a mild bitterness.

The taste is soft and rounded like a München Helles is supposed to be, and quite clean if it hadn’t been for the DMS vegetable flavours. The vegetables get even stronger in the aftertaste in the otherwise smooth and dry aftertaste. Dry malty hints in the finish.

The carbonation is medium to mild; the liquid is dry making this a very drinkable beer.

To much DMS, otherwise a fine brew.
