I've had quite a few of these lately and at the end of the day, I like this beer. It's a beer I had overlooked for a while, I think because of it's commonality if that makes any sense.
Tonights beers were butter bombs. Right off the bat, I noticed something was off with the hops too. Almost skunked. But these were fresh brown glass bottles from less than a mile from the actual brewery. I still enjoyed the beer as a good party beer, but something has gone wrong with this batch. Normally a much smoother, more pedestrian (in a good way) lagierbier.

Drunk fresh at the source in September 2023.
L: Deep, golden orange, fluffy off-white head. Minimal carbonation.
S: Very clean with the mildest floral note.
T: Clean like the nose; sweet, bready malt and the slightest hop note, otherwise quite plain and unremarkable.
M: Very mild with minimal carbonation. Almost feels undercarbonated.
O: This is more like the standard sort of Eurolager I'd expect to purchase at the local supermarket than any of the other German-made lagers I've had on my trip so far.
Cheers!

Picked up a e0,5l bottle dated 15.09.23 from the REWE down the street from Mahrs in Bamberg. Did not expect this to pour the light amber brown color that it did. Nose and flavor is caramelized malt and brown sugar, quite unique for a Helles. Drinks smooth and clean with quite a sweet finish. Is this the Bamberg version of Helles?

Brauerei Fässla "Lagerbier"
2,80€ / ,5L on tap at the brewery on 16 Spetember 2017
Notes: Crystal clear and very deep amber in color but not quite copper. Golden orange highlights glimmer beneath a short head of white foam. It displays very good head retention and lacing. The aroma is malty with just a light waft of noble hops in the background. The flavor is grainy with a touch of light golden caramel and some lightly floral, herbal, and spicy hops. A firm bitterness balances it and it finishes dry. In the mouth it's medium bodied and crisp. Quite a solid hellesbier.

Didn't note anything so just from memory, on tap so feels like it needs qualifying.
Had at their main place in Bamberg to go with the Schäuferla (which is brilliant for how preposterously cheap it all is), just a decent Helles as one should be I've not had anything from Fassla in bottles before but I'm sure it benefits from being this fresh - nice golden colour in the glass, holds a small head - herbal/slightly malty aroma and in the taste - it noticeably is not as good as Augustiner vom fass (which I also had for the first time on this trip) in terms of the malt character. Smooth despite the carbonation that's still there not from the bottle.

Rich golden color in the glass. Fantastic grassy and herbal noble hop aroma. Refreshing and delicious but simple it shines in its perfect balance and drinkability

Pours a golden amber with a nice head that lasts. Respectable beer from the working man's brewery in Bamberg. No real issues, but no real greatness. Honest beer.
2022 update: Yum!

On tap at Fässla back in September.
The beer is a clear golden orange body with a white head with tiny bubbles going up. Leaves some lacing. Alright head retention.
Pretty much grain and noble hop with some light sweetness on the nose.
The taste is of grain and a nice mellow noble hop profile.
Light and crisp mouthfeel. Well carbonated.
This was a joy to drink. Don't really do too many beers of this style and it was a treat on a warm Bamberg afternoon.

50cl serving in a seidel at the Fassla Keller, Bamberg
A - Golden body with excellent clarity with 3 finger creamy white head. Lacing and head retention are good
S - A little musty. Some biscuit and green grape
T- Light malt biscuit balancing with a faint lemon lime citrus hop bite in a full finish.
M - Medium carbonation/body.
D - Standard tasty franconian helles. A little unique in the finish with the lemony/lime bite quality but provided welcome balance. Nice.

Half litre bottle, 5.5 abv. Dark bronze colour, clear. Poured a medium head which died after a short time. Smelled hints of banana, a bit grassy. Balanced malty taste, slight hint of fruit with a bittersweet finish. Fair amount of gas. Very well crafted refreshing lager.
