A: Pours a very rich deep dark maroon with a nice fizzy pink head.
S: Aromas of very tart berry juice, wood, earth, and funk
T: Tart cherry from front to finish, subtle wood, dirt, and hints of leather. Subtle sweetness hides beneath.
M: Medium in body, smooth, with a nice level of carbonation.
D: Good a nice drinkable brew.

2008 bottle:
poured a deep ruby red with a finger of pink head. smells of perfume, cherries, lactobacillus, wine barrels. the taste is very tart up front, lots of sour cherry, funky barnyard wet hay, cork, cedar. medium body with high carbonation.. nice and tart.
a lovely lambic i got in a trade for 2 heady toppers. worth it in my opinion. lots of nice sourness makes me love this even more than i should! can't really feel the heavy abv, it is masked well by the tart fruityness.

2008 vintage
Pours a deep red. Small red tinted head that dissipates quickly.
A complex aroma. Acidic and funky. The cherry smell is mostly masked by the funk from the wild yeast and bacteria, but it's there if you inhale deeply. The smell the outdoors and a hint of sour cherries.
Flavor is nice and funky as well. Pretty sour but not over the top. Cherry flavor is not as pronounced as it could be, but rather serves to complement the base beer. Light body and surprisingly good carbonation for a 5 year old beer.
I've been into sour beers for several months now. Surprisingly, this is my first traditional fruited lambic. I will be making a trip to Belgium in a couple weeks and will drown myself in lambics to get a better stylistic comparison for this beer. For now however, i really love this kriek.

Bottle (2009 vintage) into Ommegang wine flute
A: Amber in color with some inconstancy of browner spots and lighter more honey colored spots. It is semi translucent but standard for a gueuze or any beer that has been aged for that long. There is next to no head or lacing as it was tan when poured but went away instantly.
S: well there is definitely that distinctive funk stink but it is not super pungent, rather there is a stronger smell of wood from the barrels and some hints of white wine. There is also a sweetness that I assume comes from whatever fruit was added but it makes itself known. There is balance despite this smell being diverse.
T:It is somewhat sour upfront but not puckering it is more of a sweet fruity sour taste then puckering. There is not that much funk to it, but the cleanness and crispness of of the sour flavor makes up for that. This is one of the easiest drinking gueze iv ever had which is impressive considering its 8% abv which is unnoticeable.
M:it is thicker then other guezes I've had but it is also very light and smooth so the thickness does not effect it negatively. It has a juicy feel to it as has next to no carbonation though the flavor makes up for that.
O: This is a nice gueze really easy to drink and good sour flavor with a fruity/sweet kick. It was pretty flat and definitely seems like it will develop more over time (so i hope to report back on that) though that being said it is a solid beer that I would recommend is worth a try.

2008
Pours a cloudy, very dark ruby red color with golden copper edges and a one finger pinkish head that immediately settles into a thin, lasting ring. Sporadic spotty lacing left behind.
Slightly funky aroma that's bursting with intense cherry flavor. There's some lactic acid, funky bugs, horse blanket and barnyard character but it's really fruit forward, to the point where I'm picking up the skin and pit of the fruit. Slightly damp smelling with cobweb and ancient oak but not as intensely funky as other lambic. Mostly because of the prominent fruit.
Full bodied, intensely tart and puckering with a much funkier flavor than the aroma suggests. Lots of barnyard, sour acidity and lactic funk along with damp, toasted oak and a sweet vinous fruit character. Slightly syrupy and sweet with a strong cherry/cherry juice flavor. Very organic tasting with cherry skin and juicy fruit flavor balancing out the funk and acetic acid. Again, the pit from the fruit is evident, complimenting the funk and charred oak. Subtle acetic vinegar lingering in the bone dry finish but it's not harsh or solvent like at all with plenty of juicy cherry fruit flavor balancing things out. Not as extreme as some of the other fruit lambics that I've had but its a really nice Kriek that ill definitely be buying again.
