A: Clear pale golden / orange color. White fizzy head which disappears like a champaign head. Elegant.

S: Light tartness, floral aroma. Citruses, green apple. Oaky smoothness.

T: Light tartness, but no sourness or astringency despite lemon notes on the finish. Smooth, well balanced.

M: Highly carbonated. Very drinkable.

O: A very drinkable Gueuze, perfect for a non-initiate for instance. Well done in this extent but lacks a bit of personality.

375ml bottle (with an upside down label) into a Moriau Geuze tumbler at In de Verzekering tegen de Grote Dorst. Something new to sip on while digesting the ridiculous menu.

A: Clear, fizzy gold body under a gorgeous, creamy off-white head. Great retention, light lace. Very nice.

S: Light, pleasant, and very dry. Lots of flint, gunpowder, earthiness, and grass. Moderate barnyard and lemon. Quite nice in a crisp, fresh way.

T: Starts out crisp and fruity, with lots of dry earthiness, minerality, and funk filling in behind. The finish is bone dry and highly metallic - a significant drawback. The metallic notes really ruin what was a very promising Geuze.

M: Lively, smooth, light-bodied. Great.

O: Tons of potential here, but the finish was like sucking on a penny. If it hadn't been for that I might have liked it even more than Mariage Parfait.

Pours a somewhat-darkened golden color with a good white head and just a bit of lacing on the way down. The nose has some restrained funk and some earthiness. Acidity is light-to-moderate. A bit of citrus, but not too much, a la Tilquin or Cantillon. Flavor is similar. Body is light and carbonation is a bit low. Not enough funk or acidity; it's a bit lacking in character. An interesting gueuze to try, but not among the best.

Bottle received as a gift from drabmuh. Lambic I have not had burning a hole in my cellar. Can't hold out any longer. Shared with Paul at his goddamn house.

The beer is hazy and light apricot hued. Hay, funk, citrus, oak. The delectable aroma translates to the flavor. A really tasty beer. Well balanced and easy to drink. Pleasant tartness and a really fantastic oak character. Relatively high carbonation. Overall, really solid. I hope to have this again. Thanks Matt!

Bottle: Poured a hazy slightly dirty orangey color lambic with a nice foamy head with good retention and some light lacing. Aroma of light green apple with some light barnyard notes and some light tartness. Taste is easily drinkable with notes of green pale and light acidity with some tartness and very light oak notes. Acidity and barnyard notes are well balanced and not at any important level. Body is quite full with good carbonation. Well made with great drinkability factor thought not as much character as some of the heavy-hitter.

Clear slightly golden color. 3 fingers of airy white head that dies down to a slim layer of foam on top.

Smells of hay, barnyard funk, citrus orange rind, lemon zest.

Taste is subtle and smooth. Not nearly as sour/sharp as many other gueze's. Barnyard funk, hay, lemon zest, and citrusy notes. Sour notes are there, but pretty restrained. Fruity and floral.

Light and spritzy.

A damn good gueze. Surprised and impressed with how balanced it is.

A: Straw-gold color, which is interesting because usually gueuzes are more copper-ish. Clear, with quite a bit of effervescence.

S: Orange peel. Some honey sweetness.

T: A bit tart, but not munch. Some pale malt sweetness, like honey-dew, lingers on the tongue. A clean aftertaste, with no astringency.

M: Medium carbonation (which is a lot of gueuzes). A light body.

O: A subdued gueuze, but quite drinkable despite not being especially complex.

Poured into a snifter glass from a bottle with a best by date of 03.12.2029. Glass of cold water on the side to sip from periodically.

Appearance: As poured the beer is hazy apricot color with a 1” head that never seems to go away, but does recede slowly as it is fed by the active carbonation. As the head recede to a cap on the liquid there is no lacing left behind but sipping does create layers of foam on the side of the glass that slide back down to the liquid.

Smell: The aroma has an interesting mix of smells that include a definite mustiness that underlies a fresh grass and lemony floral smell. The mustiness reminds of something that might be described as leather or maybe this is horseblanket? As the beer warms the aroma opens up and the mustiness/leather smell becomes much more prominent, but not unpleasantly so.

Taste: The flavor includes some sweetness but is more dry than sweet. There is also some lemon zest and some light tartness. The flavor seems less complex than does the nose in that I’m not really picking up any flavors I’d describe as musty or funky.

Mouthfeel: The mouth feel is on the light side of medium bodied with lots of prickly carbonation for the entire beer. The finish is medium length starts with a faint lemon sweetness that turns to tartness as the finish dries and ends.

Drinkability and Overall Impression: This is a really enjoyable beer with its clean refreshing aromas and flavors and the background of musty (funky). I enjoyed drinking it and would be quite happy to have another bottle. Indeed, I think that this would be a fine Gueuze for the table and enjoyment with a meal and good friends. My overall impression is of a well-made, enjoyable beer that is of good quality but which may not be the best example of its style to show off the style in a tasting or competition. Given that the best by date is 18 years into the future I’m harboring a slight guilty feeling that I may have just had this beer much too young.

2009 bottling served in the appropriate glassware because i'm not a fucking retard.

Beer is orange and completely clear before I let the sediment ride into the glass. Beer is heavily overcarbonated as evidenced by the explosion upon removing the cage. Ooops.

Aroma is sour, funky, smells like sulfur / burning tires, acetic and lactic. Smells really nice.

Doesn't live up to the aroma unfortunately. Beer is thin and heavily carbonated on the palate, there is almost nothing initially except for some carbonic burning and then a lemony tartness followed by the mild acetic and lactic ness. The last little bit is some oak and a minor funk. It was good and got better as it warmed up, I really enjoyed it but it could have had more pronounced flavors given the awesomeness of the aroma.

The beer pours a hazy yellow color with a white head. The aroma is awesome. I get notes of brett funk, lemons, oak and some floral qualities.

The flavor is pretty funky with some brett notes, tart lemons, oak, flowers and some lactic sourness that I don't get in a lot of other gueuzes.

Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

Very glad I got to try this beer.

A-pours a very light golden orange with a thin fluffy and bubbly white head.

S-the nose is dusty and dry, very light earthy notes, a little grassy with notes of sour lemon towards the back.

T-the taste is much like the nose, dusty and papery, light earthiness with grass and hay, there is a touch of sweetness with some subtle peach and light lemon, very acidic with a light touch of sour to it.

M-medium to light body with lots of carbonation burning and prickling the back of the throat with a dry finish.

D-seems a slightly oxidized and the flavor profile doesn't seem all there. the funk was present but the balance was lacking and it was so dry and hay like.

A: Clear golden body. Large bubbly head. Quickly receded after one swirl of the glass. Only the faintest of lacing.

S: Lemon, grass and a healthy dose of bretty must. Fairly straightforward, but inviting nonetheless.

T: The brett from the nose really trails off leaving only a slightly tart and funky gueuze. The lemon-citric acidity is still there. Just a bit cleaner that I'd like (and was expecting from the nose).

M: Light to medium bodied. Effervescent carbonation throughout. Light tartness in the finish.

D: Easy drinking and fairly refreshing. Not as complex as the best representatives of the style, but by no means would I hesitate to try again.

Perfect golden hue with a fluffy white head. I can tell this has high carbonation. Aroma is bretty and lactic. A little too straightforward for a geuze. Taste is light with a mild acidity but holds a heavy brett flavor. This geuze is very carbonated which makes it quite refreshing and drinkable. This may hinder its flavor a bit as it tastes somewhat one dimensional for the style.

33cl bottle at 't Brugs Beertje, served in a Drie Fonteinen tumbler. Moriau Gueuze Oude Vieille is a brassy dark gold, super spritzy, with columns of bubbles forming a huge, pillowy off-white head that is rocky settling, leaving light, foamy lace.

Smell is awesome, mineral laden, with pithy lemon zest.

Taste is less fantastic. A bit of sweetness counters the sourness, with an astringency on the finish that is borderline soapy.

Mouthfeel is heavily carbonated, creamy and dry, medium bodied.

Drinkability is ok, but it's not really my taste, the soapiness really is what detracts, although I do love the smell.

A solid pour into my large Tripel Karmeliet tulip produces a scant, finger thick, pale, tan tinged head. The beer is a honey color that shows a hazy, orange tinged, gold color when held up to the light. The aroma is grassy and tart smelling. A deeper smell focuses the sourness as well as bringing out notes of cat pee, a clean musky note (if that make sense) and milk weed. The aroma is very sharp smelling, it is not overly complex either, but still is an interesting aroma to try and dig through.

Sour up front, but not nearly as biting in its sourness as I was expecting. The predominantly lactic acidity is expressive, but somehow soft in some ways. This has a clean note of lemons that have been stripped of some of there citrus focus. The finish has a bit of tannic oak notes (hints of the flavor you would get if you were gnawing on some wood) as well as a light spiciness that seems a product of oak and fermentation esters / phenolics. There is a certain rustic grassy, not quite herbal, note to this beer and the tannins stick a bit to the palate and teeth after each sip. This definitely is nicely refreshing, which is what I want in a Gueuze (assuming you can get past the acidity in the style). The carbonation is not quite as lively as I would like (I really dig an explosive Gueuze), but does add some prickle to the texture and a touch of peppery carbonic acid. This is nicely dry, but, as a good Gueuze should, does have a certain texture and fullness to it that keeps it from coming off as watery. As the beer warms it begins to take on more of a grapefruit like edge to the flavor.

This is a solid example of the style; it definitely could use more Brettanomyces & other wild character and it needs more carbonation, but it is quite an enjoyable brew.

750ml bottle from a recent sour tasting. Pours a very clear, pale gold. Massive carbonation supporting a light foam. Smells of old shoe leather, mildly tart and funky. Nice aroma but a bit faint.

The initial taste has a bright tartness, its very lemony with acidic dryness. Sweetens up a bit in the finish with light breadiness. Lightt body, the carbonation bubbles a sharp on the tongue.

Overall a decent example of the style. Nothing special here though, moving on to the next gueuze...

Clouded oranged appearance. Perlage thin. Beautiful head, two fingers, very creamy.
The smell is that of a gueuze, with the classic notes. Leather, tartness present. But all quite light.
The taste is light too, not too challenging, let's say, for a gueuze.
Not bad at all. The tartness is present, and more strong in the end.
In the end, good.

I had a bottle ad De Hopduvel in Ghent.

Appearance: Pours a hazy golden with an off-white head.

Smell: Pretty light for a gueuze, but the acidic sourness and funkiness are there, you just have to swirl to get them.

Taste: Halfway between a sweet lambic and a sour lambic. The sourness is balanced by some sweetness. The finish has some earthy funk to it.

Mouthfeel: Light-bodied, moderate carbonation with a dry finish.

Drinkability: Not bad for a sweet gueuze.
