Very nice dark amber color. Middle of the road head with middle of the road retention.
Smells a little peppery. Nothing exciting, just normal beery smell mostly, maybe a little staleness.
First taste gives a bit of that spice but not much more. Doesn't taste 'dark' really, maybe a more flavorful light beer.
Good mouthfeel, maybe a bit thin but it rolls around the tongue nicely. A good full swallow reveals some good balanced hop and a residual sweetness. It feels very light, but not overly simple or watery at all. A good mix of just a few things which works very well.
I feel like this is a good beer to have on hand for company or maybe with a meal. It's straightforward and gives the sense of a brewer who has worked hard to perfect a simple recipe. I would recommend.

A really good dark beer. It has a lot of flavor and a dark rich color. It's a pretty heavy beer so it is something I tend to drink on occasion, just for its great flavor. It's presentation is fairly nice when poured into a serving glass. This is honestly one of my favorite beers and I believe it exemplifies what a dark beer should look and taste like.

Maple brown with an orangish hue and perfect clarity. Poured with thick off-white foam that reduced to a wispy cap that left sheets of wet lacings on the glass. Earthy, sweet and lightly toasted malt and dark brown aromas, with toffee toward the end. Medium bodied with smooth, but aggressive carbonation through the middle leaving the body a bit thin toward the end. Dark bread and toasted malt flavors up front. Light floral hop bitterness through the middle followed by toffee notes and bready, toasted flavors toward the end. Finishes clean and crisp with floral hop and bready malt notes. A great malty German beer that’s very easy to drink.

Notes transferred from the archives, I had this one last summer up in cabin at Frankenmuth. It pours with a nice, burgundy and brown color, exhibiting decent clarity throughout. The head was nice and light-tan, foamy, and shows decent retention and leaves some nice lacing on the glass.
Lightly toasted caramel, toffee, musty hops, and a slight metallic twinge are the main components of the aroma. I wanna say there's some faint cocoa notes somewhere, but they're only mildly noticeable at best. Yeast is heavy, especially at the end of the profile, giving way to that characteristic fresh and crisp yeasty lager aroma. Fresh and refreshing.
The taste follows along pretty nicely, a touch watered down, but still packed with decent flavor. Nice, lightly roasted malts, caramel and toffee, a powerful nuttiness and a mild touch of musty and dry tasting hops. No doubt that the malts are king here, though the beer drinks easily and never errs on the side of being too sweet.
One of the best thing about lagers is the beautiful yeast and the crisp, clean taste it provides. That sentiment rings true in this brew as well, with a finish that leans heavily towards that wonderful lager yeast. Crispy, clean, faintly sulfuric, and lightly bready. Light bodied with a clean, snappy mouth feel and a relatively dry finish.
Highly drinkable brew, right here. Drinking this one during our summer camping trip at Frankenmuth was perfect; it went nicely with the hot dogs and hamburgers that day, and this is something I would gladly have again.

I can enough of this beer. My all time favorite. Hands down one of the best in my opinion. My brother went on holiday to Germany and mention about this great beer he had. Turns out las Vegas has a Hofbrauhaus. I had a stein and I fell in love with it ever since.

Hofbräu Dunkel is a delicious bready dunkel. This would be a great winter session beer.
