Poured from a green 330ml bottle into a pint glass, coded freshness date.

This pours a nice light yellow with a massive head. Right off the bat I do get a little Heineken type of smell, but under that I get some more traditional wheat beer smells, a little sweet some banana and cloves. Feel is medium with good carbonation. Taste is of wheat, some dryness, not as sweet as the nose, maybe a little of the banana. Overall this isn't bad but there are far better wheats out there and I don't see the need to get this one again.

a: This was a cloudy, light golden color. It was served to me with a small frothy cap.

s: Bright banana and bubblegum backed nicely by some earthy cloves.

t: Very nice balance of refreshingly sweet banana notes with hints of bubblegum and earthy wheat malts,

m: Nicely big and chewy.

o: Very nice hefe to have in a flood.

Drank on-tap at The Ginger Man, South Norwalk, CT
Served in a weizen glass

Cloudy, pale yellow ochre in appearance. The beer was topped by a near two-finger, bright white, sea foam crown. Good lasting strength on the head. Drips of lacing trickled down the glass.

The nose was remarkably crisp, dry and powdery initially. Yeasty with moderate spice and lemon notes, but not much else. I was a bit disappointed by its lack of complexity. As the beer sat, the nose changed considerably. Fruity bubblegum notes came out strong and the spiciness really intensified, as did the tart lemony notes.

Off the bat, the flavor profile seemed far more rounded than the nose. Sweet, bready malts and bubblegum notes were quite noticeable. Lots of crisp wheatiness and spices in the center. Clove seemed to be the dominant spice. Lemon peel appeared as well. Overall, the beer displayed a nice balance between sweet and tart. The finish was refreshingly crisp and semi-dry.

The liquid wad soft and pillowy with a fine, lively effervescence. Smooth and lush on the palate. As the beer sat, the carbonation died down substantially and the mouthfeel turned even creamier.

Hofbräu Münchner Weisse is a flavorful yet easy drinking hefeweizen that is perfect for sipping on a warm fall evening. This is definitely a solid all-around version of the style.

Served in a large krug at Ubersteins.

The 2011 Bachelor Party Extravaganza continues its German leg. This portion pours a cloudy amber-straw topped by a healthy white froth. The nose comprises the usual banana, clove, and wheat, along with a light tinge of orange and lemon zests. The taste brings in more of the same, along with a light biscuity note running through the background, along with a light grapefruit sidekick. The body is a hefty-ish light, with a light moderate carbonation and a refreshing finish. Overall, a very enjoyable hefe, one of the better representations around.

Poured the 16.9oz bottle into my Weizen glass.

A: golden body with orange tones and small one finger foamy head that faded rather quickly. A bit disappointing.

S: wheat, cloves, lemon and hints of banana. A bit plain, but still enjoyable.

T: follows the nose in part with lemon and banana. A bit of apple is also felt and finishes off with spiciness

M: medium body, carbonation was a bit high I thought.

O: I was a bit disappointed with this one. I'm a huge Hefeweizen fan but this one didn't catch my attention. It felt very plain and didn't offer anything that wowed me.

S - Nice soft banana and clove, very delicate, hint of of tart lemon

T - Sweet and sour citrus, light on the spice and yeast

M - Pretty good, decent carbonation

O - A nice bavarian hefeweizen, but there are better

On tap at Primebar Chicago.

I was with a German (Austrian to be exact) colleague and he recommended this beer. What a great choice! If you are looking for a perfect beer that really exemplifies the hefeweizen style, this is it! I'll need to find this at places closer to me for the future. He suggested even mixed this with banana juice or some other fruit juice for added flavor. I may have to try this as well.

Overall, don't miss this if you love this style.

A- Pours a hazy golden wheat color. Produces a huge 3-finger frothy white head.

S- Perfect wheat beer smell. Wheat, yeast, lots of banana esters.

T- Solid wheat flavor with a bready texture, chalky yeast, bananas are slightly more vague than in the nose, cloves are still pretty strong, a touch of citrus in the background.

M- Medium bodied, great carbonation, despite a bit of chalkiness from the yeast the texture is still smooth and drinkable with a crisp finish.

O- There's no two ways about it, this beer is delicious, doing Bayern proud.

From 11.2 oz bottle.

A: Poured from a bottle the color is gold, good cloudiness like a hefe should. Little head, white, that disappears quickly.

S: Great smell. Some banana and spice and something else. It almost smells like smoke or better - like someone recently lit a match. Not sure that's it, but overall, it's appealing and a little different.

T: Powerful carbonation, but the taste goes quickly.

M: Good, crisp, refreshing taste left in the mouth.

Overall - I enjoyed this beer and it was very much a standard hefe. I was hoping for a little more flavor other than the quick spicy impact you get right away with the spice and carbonation. Good, refreshing beer, perfect for summer.

My second weizen ever. Bought at Bennet in Italy.

This is a cloudy, golden beer with a white head.
It smells of banana and hops.

The taste is very much banana, banana and some spicy and hops. Too much banana for me.

Overal probably a good weizen, prehaps I just don't like the style. The weather wasn't too good either, prehaps the taste is better when it is warmer?

Should try more of the style.

12oz green bottle.

A- Pale straw-gold hew into a pint glass, no weizen glass at apartment yet. A fizzy/foamy white head forms with small size and not much in the way of retention. Only a few small splotches of lace.

S- Wheat bread pops out along with hops. The hops are mostly floral and grassy. Some banana and clove.

T- More yeast influence here bringing clove, banana, breadand esters. Hops are nice in the finish lending floral, grassy and a nice lemon bite. Some sweetness, wheat and grainy malt.

MF- Foamy body with a light overall feel. Slightly tart and bitter finish.

A very crisp, light bodied hefeweizen which refreshes and doesn't lack in the flavor department.

Had this at the 'ol Hofbräuhaus Am Platzl in 6/11.
Arrived in a standard fluted weiss glass. The beer is cloudy eggshell color with the prerequisite 2” of foam on top.
I’d say this take on the style falls into the fruitier category. Big banana up-front, and on the back end. Hints of apple and pear, too. The spice notes aren’t too strong, but there is a little bit of a vanilla cream with some sips. Not much clove, but there is a hint of nutmeg.
No chalkiness at all in spite of quite a lot of suspended yeast. You can drink this all day, and on occasion I’ve been guilty of having several. I don’t think I’m alone in that, though.
Not the absolute best weissbier, but still a really good one. If you favor the fruit-focused weizens, this one is absolutely worth seeking out. I’ve heard the bottled version doesn’t really do this justice, but on tap it’s excellent.

Poured into a weizen glass.

A - Hazy yellow-orange colored brew with a nice pillow of froth on top. Retention was moderate and lacing a little soapy.

S - Yeasty, with a punch of fresh lemons, not lemon juice or anything artificial.

T - Mild phenol/banana/citrus flavors all blend together in a nice clean swirl. Decently complex, yet simplistic enough as to enjoy without a second thought.

M - Light bodied, low carbonation level, clean finish. Perhaps slightly watery, but not enough to cause a huge hit here.

D - It might not be the most flavorful hefeweizen out there, but it is refreshingly good and a solid classic. Definitely one of those that you just have to try if you're a fan of wheat beers.

Poured into a Weizen glass. Pours a hazy golden color. Nice white head and lacing. Lots of bubbles coming up the glass.

Aroma isn't as strong as it is in other weizens. Kinda clover and wheaty.

Taste is also lighter than other weizens. Cinda wheaty and clovy. Slight banana.

Mouthfeel is refreshing. Mild carb.

Overall an ok Weizen. There are others I would rather have.

500ml bottle

A- Light golden, less cloudy than the average for the style. Big white fluffy head that leaves loads of lacing on the sides of the glass

S- A fresh wheat aroma, with some light undernotes of lemon and spices

T- Light but highly refreshing bready malts. Then notes of lemon and banana. Some spicy flavours (clove, phenols) to bring more life. Very much what you would in a weizen, though this one is quite sweet, even for the style

M- Light in body with a good amount of carbonation, at least for the style. Feels pleasantly crisp on the tongue and decently smooth on the palate

O- The beer is decently complex but drinkabilty is still awesome and this beer is a perfect thirst quencher for the summer months. A solid classic hefeweizen

Why would you package a delicate beer like a hefewiezen in green glass?

A - Straw yellow with fine bubbles and large white head.

S - citrus, mild skunk.

T - lemon zest, bready, slight sweetness.

M - carbonation is bright, texture is silky.

D - Easy to drink.. big fan of the style, but I better stick to kegs.

Pours cloudy yellow with a decent white head, no lacing.

Sweet wheat and yeast with a hint of spice. Grain forward in the nose.

Wheat, yeast, some husk. Sweet grain hits the spot. Some light spice, but this is not a big one for anything beyond basics. Finishes clean with light bitterness and some grain husk.

Lighter bodied, easy to drink. Decent version of the style, though a bit imperfect.

On draught served in a 25 oz mug (~.75L), Hofbräu Hefe Weisse is a cloudy dull gold with a small white head leaving scattered, foamy lace.

Smell is very pithy, minerals, a bit of citrus really, even though there no lemon served thankfully, at this actually authentic German bar.

Taste is pretty spicy, again lots of mineral pith, the wheat brings some spice, not much in the way of the classic Bavarian esters of banana or clove. Not my favorite by any stretch as it's more wheaty then anything else, almost saison like, clean though.

Mouthfeel is dry and crisp side, medium light bodied.

Drinkability is average. It's certainly quenching, and while it has some weizen character, it's not bringing the Bavarian yeast notes I love in the style.

On-tap at Uberstein Chicago

A - The body was cloudy with a golden hue to it...two fingers worth of creamy, white head...it feel slowly and settled into a thin cap which fell to a solid ring around the glass...decent lacing left behind

S - Fresh, creamy banana dominates the aroma...the yeast can be detected along with some faint citrus notes

T - The flavors are that of a classic Hefewizen...the banana is taken down a notch by the yeast flavors present...but the banana is evident throughout the entire beer...the spices make an appearance in the middle of the beer but they are not overpowering at all...there's a lemon presence towards the end of the beer

M - Medium bodied...creamy and refreshing

O - As I said before, this is a classic Hefeweizen...great banana flavors and spot of refreshing...this was better than my previous experience "American" made Hofbrau

Classic. Wanted to try something other than the Weihenstephaner, which I know to be awesome. Picked up this green bottle. A little yeast ringlet sits at the bottom of the glass. Word.
Not super cloudy, but a bit hazy yellow, looks fine and all.
Smells a little skunked with some banana and wheat and clove.
Definitely tastes skunked, which is always strange to me that such a low hop beer can do this. But it does! The sulfur notes dominate, with a little bit of the yeast character to provide some semblance of decency.
A crappin disappointment.

Tried this on-tap at the Hofbrau beer hall in Munich.

Hazy golden yellow colour with a large, foamy white head settling down to leave a thin cap on the pint.

Banana aroma dominating although this is a quite clean smelling hefeweizen. There is a sort of cloudy, fruity smell and some spice too along with some lemon.

Very much like the smell with the banana flavour being the most noticeable with the spice and lemon in the background. The banana taste is pretty good and there is also faint some herbal flavours.

This one is on the light side of medium bodied and is really smooth. The carbonation is low for the style but it's not off-putting.

I really enjoyed this one having sampled it in Hofbräu beer garden in Munich on a warm day which may have helped my rating slightly. The beer went down really well and is definitely one I look forward to trying again.

A- Appropriately hazy amber that is unfortunately lacking in the head department. Head never develops past a persistent ring of lace. Otherwise nice, though.

S- Strong banana aroma backed by a tart malt and some lemon notes. Nice, almost a bit funky.

T- Mild, soft ripe fruit notes heavy on banana and apple. Husky grains and earthy yeast notes complement the fruit quite nicely. Finishes with a touch of residual sweetness and very little bitterness.

M- Good medium body that is carbonated well but not aggressively so.

Yet another solid German hefeweizen. This one may be a little better than some of the others I've tried. The flavor is mild but very nice and all its elements combine to form a beer that is extremely drinkable. I could quaff a couple of these on a summer day with ease. I'd certainly get it again. Recommended, especially for fans of the style.

500mL bottle poured into a Hefe glass.

(A)- Pours a hazy golden yellow color. Produced a nice large cap of frothy white foam. Decent retention.

(S)- A really nice dry clove, lemon, and banana with a nice earthy biscuit-like wheat finish.

(T)- Very very dry. A nice clove and lemon profile with tiny bits of banana. A good biscuit and wheat finish.

(M)- A nice crisp yet smooth carbonation level. A nice balance and feel; not overly fruity or dry or wheat but harmonious in all.

(D)- A solid Hefe. Fits the style well and really hits the spot to quench your beer thirst on a hot summer's day.

Poured from the bottle into a pilsner style glass.

Looking great with an almost nice tight white head of two fingers. Gives great looking rising carbonation from a cloudy glowing yellow/dark lemon body. Looks like a great Hefeweizen.

Smell is a classic. Simple banana and clove, but also a very sense of wet and thin feeling to come.

Taste brings the hint of what is on the nose. A bit wet banana and clove finish. Hints of nutmeg and other brown spices but with very little body. On the swallow there is a hint of bread wheat like finish. Even a little wet lemon aftertaste.

Overall fairly solid and easy drinking and a good representation of the style that will do the job easily.
