I had some mixed emotions about Summit coming out with an anniversary ale. Not because I don't think their worthy of celebrating 25 years, but because I found many "anniversary" brews disappointing. After all, if it was good, why wouldn't you brew more than once every quarter century? But....I was mistaken. This is an exceptional ale!

Pours a light golden pale orange color with great retention. Taste was a combination of a fresh cascade hop avalanche & crisp dry orange, pineapple, grapefruit, and earth tones reminiscent of a beautiful summer day in St. Paul, MN. The touch of pine & bitterness round out this truly perfect summer brew. One of the D-Train summer favorites. Well worth hitting the tracks to pick this up while you can get it....

12oz bottle into Summit Oatmeal Stout glass (review from notes 11/11)

Look is like most IPA's: a slightly red hued orange-gold. Smell is fruity, piney hops with a warm malt background. Taste is great, this is their best IPA yet: bitter piney hops dominate with a semi-sweet caramel malt background. Feel is well carbonated, medium, and crispy.

Good representation of the style. Does nothing new but does it well.

A- Clear copper color topped with a thick off white head. Head fades slowly to a cap and leaves some nice lace on the glass.

S- Grapefruit hops dominate and hints of bready malts to balance things out.

T- Bitter grapefruit hop right away, almost overpowering but not quite over the top, malt flavors come into balance things out but they never take the bitterness off of the hops. The finish is dry and with a lingering final hit of the grapefruit that is almost puckering.

M- Medium in body and well carbonated, clean for an IPA, no oily hop build up left at the finish.

O- Almost over the top with the hops, but not quit there. Not a beer for beginners, but if you are a fan of American IPAs then this is a solid effort. I was surprised by the 6.5% ABV I thought it would be a little higher, even though I never did detect a note of alcohol while drinking this.
