Real Ale Lost Gold IPA has a medium, off-white head, and a hazy, yellow-orange appearance, with lots of bubble streams, tiny brown specks floating about, and a good amount of lacing left on the glass. The aroma is strongly of sweet, grapefruit and maybe some sweet, white bread. Taste is the same, with robust bitterness up front. Mouthfeel is medium and slick, and Real Ale Lost Gold IPA finishes dry, refreshing, and relatively easy drinking. Overall, this is excellent. Check it out, if you ever see it.

Warm and spicy brew that is on the friendlier side of the IPA spectrum. Pours a handsome golden amber with an orange tint. Lots of foam in the Saxo tall tulip. Spritzy and a little sharp on the tongue.

Nice flowery aroma with a touch of resins. Pleasantly malty without being too sweet, but it's definitely on the mellow side. The hops are just bitter enough to balance the sweetness. Lots of aromatics with pineapple and citrus flavors. Totally drinkable. Maybe this the wave of less extreme IPAs that give you lots of hops without the crush-your-head-with-a-rock bitterness. Cheers to Texas! From the 12 oz bottle bought at Texas Wine Cellars in Fredericksburg.

12 oz. bottle poured into tulip

L: peach orange ... the color of the peach that isn't red; weak head; barely 1/4-inch of weak white foam; *does* lace a bit. i love the color and the half-opaque murkiness; the head isn't much, but there is a nice collar and surface layer of foam that seems to be hanging around.

S: hops and more hops; very bright and floral; lots of pine; i swear i smell house paint ... not an overpouring smell, but there's a sweet smell mixing with the hops that reminds me of paint. ironically, it's not a bad smell.

T: all hops at first, nothing else; over time some wheat (?) or toasted barley starts peeking in; it offers a nice extra note to balance the big hop bite. the English crystal malt might be taking control of it late, both in the taste and smell ... whatever it is, halfway in I'm picking up some new sweet notes that are nice.

F: a little weak ... light carbonation. it's not terrible, but it is a tad watery.

O: i like it. it doesn't shine or stand out as excellent, but the wheat/toasted barley notes give it a nice quirk that interests me. and while it starts out tasting like just another IPA, it finishes with some different notes that again seem interesting and pleasant.

A- Slightly cloudy pale orange-gold. Off white foam, hold well to abut a quarter inch of foam that leaves a nice lace

S- citrusy punch, toasty grain

T- pretty much like it smells, but it smells more like grapefruit than it smells, the toasted grain comes through more in the flavor

M- bitterness sticks to the back of the tongue nicely

There is no real wow factor to this beer, but I appreciate it as it would make grate beer with food, or a great option for a beer that I could sit around and drink all day, very well balanced

Great color on this one: clouded gold amber. Nose is really nice too at first. It seems to calm quickly. Flavor profile is good. Consistent and smooth. Nice level of bitterness that I appreciate. Smooth pine and citrus elements. Feel is good. This is a nice, easy drinking ipa. I could go for several of these. And I would definitely jump on the chance to try this via cask.

Thanks to Grendle for this one. Haven't had anything from Real Ale in quite some time and I'm very happy to have the chance to again.

120oz bottle poured into a tall pint glass

Appearance: very cloudy, orange, but not bubbly, 2+ fingers of head, persistent

Aroma: a very delightful, hoppy aroma, but not overwhelming

Taste/mouthfeel: A moderately hoppy, oaky taste, even a bit piney, with a moderately heavy, thick mouthfeel. I don't really taste any malts.

Lost Gold holds its own as an IPA. I think it's my favorite Real Ale variety, besides Devil's Backbone and their Black Quad. I've had better IPA's, but it's definitely one I'll buy again.

Poured in Ranger Creek Tulip

A: Pours slightly-darker-than-gold, to look at it you might think it's your average American adjunct beer, except for the very decent lacing the quickly dissipated head leaves behind on the glass
S: I love the smell of this beer, it's got a tropical hint to it, with a nice hoppy presence in the forefront and some crisp maltiness in the background
T: The taste follows the tropical feel, the hops start off with a sweet, almost mango or pineapple quality, and quickly move to a strong, but not overpowering, bitterness bite. A very nice, smooth, easy to drink and easy to enjoy IPA
M: Pretty thin, with a little zestiness to the bubbles that accentuates the tropical party feel of the beer
D: Easily, easily drinkable. I could have another one right now. I think I will.

A: golden (hence the name), single finger head that dissipates relatively quickly but leaves a nice lacing, lots of carbonation bubbles at first but almost none after it settles

S: strong hop smell of grapefruit, pine, lemon; smells great!

T: good light IPA, not overboard on the hops (could use more dry hops in my opinion), slight bitterness that finishes dry. This is a good, session able beer, but I expected more.

M: light, low carbonation, good summer beer

O: overall, not a bad beer but for the price there are much better IPAs out there

Yellow and golden, very clear with a pretty good one finger head and pretty good lace and rising bubbles.

A bit of a blast of grapefruit aroma at first, with some nice piney notes and a good maltiness.

Flavor is mellow but nicely hoppy. Grapefruit is again up front, with oranges and tangerines, floral notes, and a good malty backbone.

Body is medium, with mid carbonation, and a slightly sweet, slightly bitter hop finish. Mellow and easy to drink, this one is enjoyable, but not a pallet wrecker.

I would love this one canned for fishin' trips. It's a pretty good beer, maybe not tops in its class, but quite drinkable. Actually I thought their signature hop pale ale was hoppier, but they're both tasty beers anyway.

Poured into a pint glass.

A - pours a straw yellow/gold. Small head, recedes pretty quickly, no lacing.

S - hops are floral, and have a citrus fruit scent. Kind of reminds me of the scent of a double IPA!

T - definitely not as head on hoppy as a true IPA. This is a bit more mellow, it has a floral and citrus fruit quality to it. Hops do linger on your palate, but as I said, not as much.

M - smooth, light carbonation. Goes down very smoothly.

Overall, not a true IPA IMHO. However, it's a good take on the style - an interesting twist .

A: clear golden w/ small slow-sizing bubbles and a resilient thick white head.

S: fresh flowery

T: less assertive than a typical american ipa - citrus and flower, lingering hop, bitterness is strong enough for an ipa but not crazy like so many

M: dry and slightly astringent, slightly creamy

O: excellent

Served on tap at Opal Divine's Marina in Austin, TX

A: Pours a clear golden orange leaning towards copper/amber in color with moderate amounts of visible carbonation. The beer has a finger tall off-white head that slowly reduces to a thin film covering the majority of the surface of the beer with a thick ring at the edges of the glass. Moderate to significant amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Sweet caramel malts upfront with a stronger presence of citrus/grapefruit and floral (orange blossom) hops that seems to increase in intensity as the beer warms. Quite inviting.

T: Moderate to strong flavors of citrus hops (grapefruit and orange) and floral hops (orange blossom) over the top of caramel malts with just a touch of sweetness. Light amounts of lingering bitterness.

M: Medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation.

O: I found this beer to be quite enjoyable with a really nice aroma - I'm thinking I must have gotten it really fresh since I was drinking close to the source and it doesn't match with some others experiences in the smell department. Easy to drink but a touch too strong to be sessionable.

A: Burnt orange, frothy white head, big lacing all the way down the glass.

S: Grassy and earthy. Hop is present but quite muted for the style.

T: Nice and smooth brew with an earthy malt with a nice hop balance. It is tame for an IPA, yet well done in terms of balance.

M: Smooth, mainly because of the lack of prickly hops.

O: Just above average for the style, an easy drinker for the IPA fan.

12oz bottle poured into a NB globe.

A: The beer pours a cloudy copper orange with a huge fluffy cap that settles slowly leaving a nice trail of sticky lacing throughout the session.

S: Fairly subdued for an IPA hint of citrus and a hint of an earthy malt base.

T: Decent hop bite on the front the finish is a bit astringent which was off putting. Not bad but really not a lot here.

M: The carbonation levels are spot on and carry this light/medium bodied IPA well. The finish was crisp and for me this was the highlight of the beer. Right where I like my IPA's.

O: Overall this an above average IPA and one I would certainly have again but would not actively seek out.

Pours a hazy, copper/orange color. 1/3 inch head of a an off-white color. Good retention and great lacing. There is also some suspended sediment. Smells of citrus hops, slight alcohol, sweet malt, hop oil, and a hint of earthy malt. Fits the style of an American IPA. Mouth feel is smooth and crisp, with an average carbonation level. Tastes of citrus hops, slight floral hops, hint of hop oil, sweet malt, and a hint of earthy malt. Overall, good feel, good body, and good blend.

12oz bottle into a pint. The brew appears a clear golden color with more of a yellowiah tint around the edges. A white finger of froth sits atop with patchy and finger-like lacing effect. Rising bubbles of carbonation maintain a thin film.

The smell is fruity with hops. Notes of herbs, pine and a little sulfur make themselves known. Some grapefruit rindy quality fills out the back. There is little to no alcohol noted as well as grain in the nose despite warming up. Not bad.

The taste is herbal with some grapefruit and floral notes. Throughout there is some astringency and a flavor similar to strong tea which is different and unexpected. The aftertaste has some pulp and bitter grassy rind elements. Not bad but some interesting stuff going on here.

This is a medium bodied brew with modest carbonation. A decent offering but not something I would seek out again.

Received this as an extra in a trade. Poured into my Duvel tulip.

A - Pours a nice crystal clear golden hue with a good two finger white creamy head that slumped down to a nice one finger thick blanket.

S - Lots of bitter pine, slightly dank with some light malty sweetness.

T - Fairly average here. Malty sweetness upfront followed by some pine bitterness. The finish is just lingering bitter pine, not too too crazy here.

M - Fairly average carbonation here. Nice clean bitter finish.

O - Overall this was an alright IPA. Was a bit too one note for my liking.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a pint glass, best before 11/30/12. This poured a light golden color with a large off white head. The smells are nice lots of citrus and grapefruit with s little brown sugar and caramel. The feel is medium, the taste is good nice bitterness, citrus and balance.

Very good cask IPA. Not over the top on the IBU's but well balanced. Cloudy and dry hopped, this is a real pleasure to drink. Like most cask IPA's, this has absolutely wonderful mouth feel. The appearance is just a bit on the Orange side of yellow, plus nice and cloudy. Smell is a somewhat light citrus, quite pleasant.

If you can find an establishment serving this cask go out of your way to try a pint.

A: Huge head, lacing, lots of bubbles on the pour. Textbook example on how a IPA should look like.

S: Not much going on, just a bit of dankness, heavy pine, almost bordering on skunk.

T: Pineapple, candied lemon zest, big caramel notes. Resiny pine hop flavors shows up mid-palate.

M: Well balanced between the hops and malts here. Dankness really lingers after each sip.

O: A real good IPA that I can always find fresh. Strange that this is at least 1.50 more than their other year round beers, though.

Appearance: Pours with a massive head sitting atop the light amber colored liquid; impressive retention and lacing

Smell: Sugary malts with a floral, citrusy bouquet

Taste: Shortbread, up front, joined by floral citrus through mid-palate; balanced, after the swallow and though the flavor is rather sweet, it does not approach being cloying

Mouthfeel: Medium body with moderate carbonation

Overall: Surprisingly good, even though it is a bit sweeter than I prefer

Poured from a 12oz bottle into a Samuel Adams Perfect Pint glass. Thanks to miikezombie for the hookup.

A: Pours a crystal clear light golden color. Aggressive pour leads to a big, frothy, 2 finger white head that certainly takes it's time whittling it's way down to chunky glaciers. Lacing is thick and sticky and leaves its mark the entire way down.

S: Lots going on in the nose - I think the malts hit first with an immediate hop hit to follow. I'm afraid it's not entirely balanced based on the nose because it's not as hop forward as I would expect from an IPA. Subtle lemon and honey also make their way forward towards the end.

T: Man, the flavor is definitely better than the nose. Lots of grapefruit hop presence followed by a big beautiful malt backbone. It's got the same lemon zest and touch of honey sweetness that was in the nose, right around the same spot...towards the end.

M: Nice creamy mouthfee with perfect carbonation. Hop oil coating leaves my mouth aching for more.

O: Really nice IPA! Was a bit hesitant moving into tasting this based on the smell but the flavor was absolutely wonderful. I am thankful that I have another bottle!

A light, clear, golden-amber colored brew with a goodly white fluffy head and a full wall of crackled lacing. The nose gets yeasty wheat and citrus ideas. Nothing over the top but a bit hoppy as hoped. The flavor brings sweet lemon bread and grassy edges. Yeast and malt over citrus, this brew is light-medium bodied stuff with solid carbonation that delivers a lively but slightly aqueous feel. Very drinkable though a tad sweet. Hoppy enough but nothing overdone. Very decent!

12oz Bottle, served into a Duvel tulip.

A - A promising yellowish orange, akin to Southern Tier's 2XIPA. Good looking, abundant pillowy white head.

S - Lemony hops and pale-ale malts. There's a bit lemon zest aroma from this.

T - Follows the nose. Tart lemony hop notes, with a tad of malts towards the back end. This super fresh bottle drinks like it's been aged for a while. Not bad, but a strong lemon note similar to the zest you get form Sam Adams Summer Ale.

M - Carbonation is good and the mouthfeel is a bit thin and watery.

O - Okay beer. Nothing I'd seek out or trade for. Grabbed this as an extra in a trade. As it warms the flavors get a bit off-putting.
