I find the beer sellar to be a nice place to get good beer. They usually can get the "special brews". Ex: zombie dust, bcbs. The service is usually right on it. The atmosphere is laid back. Prices aren't bad. Live music could be a bit better, maybe some larger bands rather than solo artists or karaoke, but the solo acoustic guitar artists are usually decent. Lots of sitting room at the bar. Pool tables. They have events and poker night. I dig the place and highly recommend it for craft brew lovers.

I don't make it up to the NE side of Indy often, so was excited to try out the Beer Sellar this past Friday after a couple of games of laser tag. I was sorely disappointed.

It was bad enough the place smelled like a cigarette (I'm fine with allowing smoking, but it was quite rank and without the beer selection, I would've left just by the smell alone). I can't imagine getting very good beer scents through the smoking haze.

I stood at the front door for a couple of minutes wondering if I should sit down or if I would be seated (no sign). The bartender ignored me and no one else came by so I sat myself.

I sat there for at least ten minutes waiting for someone to come by and take my order, and during that time I did not even get an acknowledgement of my existence. I know the bartender (the only employee I saw except for a cook in the book) noticed me, but didn't say anything or come by my table.

I got a phone call so thought I'd take it outside and sit on the deck, where there should also have been service, but after my ten minute phone call there, I still hadn't been waited on. Since people were smoking around me, I just left.

It's sad that I had a much better experience at the Hooters next to the Sellar. I very much doubt I will ever go back. The beer list looked decent and the menu alright, and the prices weren't bad, but I'll spend my money someplace where i'll get good service.

A: Nice large open space. Nice breweriana displays. Otherwise, this is your average smoking full service bar. Lots of people drinking BMC and shots.

Q: Beer always is fresh. Taps appear to be rotated on a regular basis.

S: Regardless of how busy the bar may be, I have always been served rather quickly. The people behind the bar are hustling for sure.

S: Excellent Bells selection, a few 3F's always on tap, other good beers on tap, decent representation of local beer scene. Decent bottle selection. Have never seen anything on tap that makes my jaw drop though.

F: Have not had anything from the menu.

V: Monday and Wednesday night are $3 select Indiana pints. Everything else is usually $6-$6.5, and not always a 16 oz pint.

I visited this bar for the first time last evening to enjoy the tail end of a Bell's Event. Earlier in the day they had hosted a mini beer festival. The place is your typical bar. They have pool, plenty of tables at different heights even, live music, darts, games, etc. The crowd appeared to be people in their mid 20s to mid 30s. The bar itself is pretty long and takes up half the main area when you first walk in. They do allow smoking too by the way. On this evening they had probably six different Bell's taps, Nitro Left Hand Sawtooth, Founders Cerise and Breakfast Stout, and many others. Pints were only $5 too. The bartenders were very nice and provided timely service. Overall I was kind of impressed. From the outside it appears to be a dive bar but the contents of your glass will impress you. It's worth a stop and for the area, probably has the best beer in Castleton.

I went here for the Bell's 30 tap record thing. It's basically exactly what I expected. We have one across the river from Cincinnati and it's mostly a meat market. There were definitely more craft drinkers on this night but became bullshit later in the night when most of the beer geeks had left. Very loud music. The quality this night was good because of all the Bell's on tap, especially the specialties but looking at their beer list for the normal nights and the bottles, most of it is the normal swill in lower end imports. The selection is pretty damn good with a bunch of taps and a lot of bottles. The service was decent, even though they were completely slammed, but the bartenders seemed overally chatted when flirted with and knew nothing about the beer. Looking at the menu, they're a bit pricey, but not outrageous.

Smoky, dingey. Looks like a typical crappy bar. Decent selection. There's something like 50 taps here of which 20 are solid craft selections. There's probably 20 POS macros on draft, and another 10 imports. The service was alright considering how packed the place was. The pints were pretty inexpensive and the food was inexpensive also, but it sucked. Actually, what I had sucked. I had a pizza. My friends wings tasted pretty good. With all of the good available places in Indy, I wouldn't go back here.

I thought this place was pretty good. The variety on tap is quite lage though it's split between good beers shit beers and middle of the road stuff. But betweeen the tap and the bottle selection there's actually quite a lot to choose from. The food is kind of lower quality and it doesn seem like the microwave is used sometimes when it should just be cooked right in the first place. Decent enough that I use to get a little something with my beer when I went there. Prices are great though. You could get some really cheap pints of some good beer. Service was above average and it depends on who you ask if they know much about the beers they have. Not a place to avoid but you could find a few better in Indy.

This is one place I will not return to or recommend to my friends. The service was so bad I ended up going to the bar to get a beer...the servers seemed oblivious to empty glasses. They had no clue what was on tap, even when we pointed to the table tents and asked for a beer listed there, the response was "do we have that?" They do have a large number of taps, so it might be difficult to keep up with all the offerings. It would seem the staff is very uneducated about beer, which really stinks if a customer doesn't know much about beer and is trying to learn.

The food was not expensive, but not really all that great, either. We ordered cheese fries and got half cooked fries with shredded cheese melted in the microwave on them.

Stopped in on a weeknight and the place was very quiet - only about six other people, yet there was strong cigar odor. I sat at the bar, and, while friendly, the bar worker wasn't in much of a hurry to take my order - she was more interested in the show on TV.

Good selection of beers on tap, but not a lot of locals, which is surprising given the number of very good micros produced in the area. The Bell's Two Hearted Ale was very fresh.

Food selection was basic burger and fried apps. The fried chicken wrap was good, but nothing special. Overall, an average place with a bit better than average tap selection.

A friend and I went here after a concert in Indy this weekend and had a remarkably good time. The tap selection was varied and plentiful, and the bartenders really seemed to know about the selections. The crowd was mostly college kids drinking the cheaper beers and liquor, but it wasn't overly crowded. We had a pizza, which was good, and even bought a t-shirt to bring home. The jukebox had some really good selections, but doesn't play what's been selected in any particular order, which can confuse anyone after a pitcher of Bell's Two Hearted Ale.

Beer Sellar is probably THE beer bar in Indianapolis. 50 taps and a large selection of bottles, plus full liquor of course. The lighting is kept on the dimmer side, and many nights they have bands come in. So it can tend to get pretty loud on those nights. There are quite a few TVs showing sports as well. The bar is very large, with room for a solid 20 people, maybe more. Alot of table seating is available throught out the bar, and pool tables, darts, and GoldenTee games for amusement can be found as well.

I have not eaten a lot off the menu, but what I have had has been excellent. Actually, everytime I have been there I have gotten the buffalo wings and they cook them perfectly and have a great sauce. Amusingly enough to me, next door is a Hooter's and I would go to Beer Sellar everyday for wings over Hooter's.

Beer is the main attraction here though, and there is plenty of it. Of the 50 taps, probably 25% of those are dedicated to the standard macro-brews. That leaves a good 30 or more taps to domestic micro and imports. Many of the import are your standard ones, but there are some hard to find beers on tap at Beer Sellar. Prices have always been reasonable when I have been there. And as far as I know, it is the only place to get Alpha King on tap in Naptown.

Went here for lunch several times when I was still job hunting up in the 82nd/86th area. Haven’t been at night when it apparently gets pretty hopping, although most BAs don’t seem to be into that kind of thing anyway, so no big deal... The place is dark with a long bar, separate areas for pool and the like. Typical US Touch Tunes jukebox selection vis a vis background noise. There are roughly 50 taps, of which maybe half are going to be immediately useless to the average BA. Not that they are all macros per se, but who’s going to order a Sam Adams or Dos Equis when Bell’s and Upland’s and the like are available? Nonetheless, the rest of the taps don’t get too adventurous, and the bottled selection is especially weak. Just about any BA will find something palatable but this isn’t the kind of place you’d drag someone from Michigan or Chicago in from out of town. About the equivalent of Chumley’s without all the college kids.

Beer Sellar is a decent beer bar. They boast 50 draught beers, and 100 bottled beers. The atmosphere is somewhat sportsbar-ish, with numerous skinnerboxes tuned to various sporting events. It has many of the standard "pub games" including darts (metal tip), pool (coin-op), the ubiquitous Golden Tee, and a very nice shuffleboard table. On weekends they have live bands, though the acoustics in the place are pretty poor.

Of the 50 draughts, there are usually only a few really worth drinking (regulars include 3F's Alpha King, Upland's Dragonfly, and Rogue's Hazelnut). The bottled selection is quite a bit better, and includes a pretty wide variety of Belgian and English ales.

Service is generally very good, though the bartenders/waitstaff have little to no knowledge of Good Beer.

The food is definitely a weak point at Beer Sellar. Their menu features sandwiches (mostly cold-cuts), frozen pizzas, and Big Ass Pretzels. If you're looking for anything more than some munchies with your beer, eat elsewhere.

Go on Thursdays if you want to be with the rowdy crowd - cheap pitchers (including the Good Stuff) and live music generally pack the house.

Starting place for our recent BA gathering. Located next to Hooters, but nothing like it. More like an old time bar. They have some pool tables, dart boards, and a place for live bands.

The have a nice selection of taps, split between craft and macro beer. They also have a wide selection of bottled beer. Staff was fairly knowledgeable, and was interested in all of us wearing the same shirts!

This isn't some upscale bar, it is just a basic kick back and have agood time bar. Well worth a visit if you are in the area

Visited on a recent return trip to Indy. Basically visited because my old local, Chalkies, doesn't open until 3:00 PM on Sunday. Large bar as you enter the door, room is divided into two halves. One side as more tables and two Golden Tee golf games and a jukebox. The other side has a large screen TV and some pool tables and dart boards.

Beer selection is pretty wide for Indy and had a view nice beers on-tap. Any place with Three Floyds on draft is OK. Quality selection of Belgian bottles and most even seem to have appropriate glassware also available.

Sampled 3 or 4 pints. All were in pretty good shape, except for a stout and I think the keg was either slow turning or beer lines were not clean. Bonus here is that beer is very reasoanbly price. Three Floyds Alpha King for $2.75 a pint is a pretty good deal.

Had 2 appetizers for lunch and neither was any good. I'd avoid the food if I went again.

Overall - Nowhere near Chalkies in food quality, beer selection was wider but not necessarily better. You could do worse that Beer Sellar but don't seek it out as a special place.

I didn't realize until I read Zerk's review that Hooters and Beer Sellar are part of the same operation. I knew that I had suspected that when I visited the Beer Sellar in Newport, Kentucky since thaye share the same barge and deck area, but didn't think to ask the publican there.

Much like Newport, this Beer Sellar carries around 50 tap beers (Newport is 60.) The list is long but does have a lot of macros on it along with some nice seasonal selections. More impressive is the collection of 100 bottled beers that is fairly high in quality. Nice, friendly staff and service. Worth a visit in Indy.

Beer Sellar is a chain of beer bars started by Hooters. They do have a small selection of food, but when I went, I didn't see anyone eating. It's somewhat dark, with a long bar, and some wooden tables. There are dartboards, pool tables, and fairly loud music.

The beer selection is pretty good, with maybe 40 - 50 taps and well over 100 bottles... the taps being equally split between macro and micro. Some good local selections are available, although they don't have very many of the "big beers" that many BA's tend to seek out.

When I was there, they had a special on Corona... with buckets of iced Corona bottles all along the bar... made me want to leave before I even sat down... then I saw the Apha King tap.

The service was good, but the bartender didn't know all that much about the beer. They also serve in chilled glasses, so be aware that if you want a warm glass, you'll have to ask for it.
