I had this English Brown Ale on tap in a pint glass. Poured a very nice caramel color, thick tan head. Great head retention and decent lacing. The aroma was full of toasted malt and nuts. The taste of the ale was nice, nutty, dry, caramel, toasted malt and a nice amount of hops. Medium body, Wonderful session beer, very creamy, smooth. Very happy i gave this one a try....One of the best American craft versions of a English Brown that I have tried to this point.

Had on-tap at Green Dot Stables in Detroit. $3 for a 12oz mug. Hadn't had it before, so why not.

Appearance: Dark, dark brown with a little, brown, creamy head. Not much lacing to be seen. A pretty average brown ale.

Smell: For some reason, I didn't pull much out. Maybe my sniffer was broken. Very faint, dirty malt aroma, with maybe some traces of coffee. Almost reminiscent of a stout, but then again, I always figure brown ales are just a small step behind a stout/porter.

Taste/feel: Average is as average does. It tastes like the smell... light on the aroma, light on the taste... easy drinking, but it's just a middle-of-the-road brown that's just not that interesting. Arcadia doesn't make the best beer, but they make typical examples of styles without trying to "change the rules", so to speak.

Appearance: Deep, dark reddish brown. The head was rather scant, disappearing quickly.

Smell: a slightly sweet bready aroma. Pleasant and toasty but with a very slight suggestion of burnt.

Taste: Toasty and slightly malty. A bit of sourness could be detected. There was a mild hoppy bitterness having a "rounded" taste. The overall taste was not as deep as hoped.

Mouthfeel: Mild carbonation, a bit thin.

Overall: Not at all bad, but the thinness of the taste profile was a bit disappointing -- but not enough to keep me from drinking it again.

The Nut Brown pours as a richly brown coloured brew. I taste a decently complex brown ale here, some present but not overbearing roasted notes, mixed with some floral notes. The beer tastes brighter than it looks, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Overall, the carbonation reduces my enjoyment of an otherwise palatable beer. It has a touch of sourness to it, with a smooth finish that lightly coats the mouth.

I'd recommend this beer as something to at least experience but not when better options like New Holland Brewing or Samuel Smith are available.

12 ounce bottle into pint glass, bottled on 12/4/2012. Pours lightly hazy reddish brown color with a 1 finger dense light khaki head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of caramel, brown sugar, toast, cocoa, brown bread, light nuttiness, roasted malt, and floral hop earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity. Taste of caramel, brown sugar, toast, chocolate, dark bread, light nuttiness, roasted malt, light raisin, and floral hop earthiness. Slight earthy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of caramel, brown sugar, toast, chocolate, dark bread, light nuttiness, roasted malt, and floral earthiness on the finish for a bit. Nice balance and robustness of malty flavors; with hardly any cloying flavors present after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a creamy, lightly slick, and earthy mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is very well hidden with hardly any warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a nice brown ale. Good balance and robustness of flavors; and very smooth to drink. A pleasantly enjoyable offering; though not as nutty as I would expect given the nut brown title.

Poured a chestnut brown color with hints of ruby in it. A decent one finger head formed with whispers of lacing clinging to the sides of the glass.

A- I couldn't really smell much of anything at first. A bit of sweet malt and caramel, but it took some warming to get that.

T- The sweetness of the malts hit me to begin with. Then I noticed a bit of yeasty biscuit taste followed by maple & caramel flavors. The promised nuttiness came towards the middle and really helped to balance out all the sweetness. The bitter hops appeared on the back note. Not a terribly complex beer, but easy enough to drink.

M- It had a moderate mouth feel and a medium finish. Moderate carbonation as well.

This is the sort of beer that you would happily reach for if this was the only craft beer in a cooler of Bud or Coors. As it is, it's a decent enough brown ale, but there are better choices out there.

Pours a deep ruby-red color, clarity around the edges allowing light to shine through - very good looking beer. Off-white head fades very, very fast to a puny ring around the glass and leaves basically no lacing at all. Aroma is full of caramel malts; toffee, caramel, and burnt brown sugar. A deep, roasty character is also noticeable. Very nutty flavor, touches of chocolate and cocoa powder. A nice onset of roasted wood chips starts to take over and is pretty pleasant - not quite smoky, but still earthy, nutty, and a bit woodsy. Midway through, the hop profile makes it's appearance; herbal, tea-like, dry. Touches of orange zest hit on the way out along with a grape flavored sweetness that isn't bad but doesn't necessarily mesh well with the previous flavors of the brew. Medium body with an average amount of carbonation.

Wasn't expecting much from this one, so it was actually a bit better than expected. Certainly not bad, but this beer falls under the category of "decent, but many better choices available" and gives no real reason to choose it again.
