This is a big, tasty double IPA that is truly double all around. It is creamy and malty enough to stand up to the heavy hops. It's pretty and clear in the glass and pours with nice color throughout the brew (lightly colored head).

It is about what I expected, though, and that is not a complement. I expected it to be heavy in a bad way. It turns out it is just a bit too bitter - slightly off balance, but still quite drinkable - you would be a fool to refuse one and for some people this may be the perfect balance.

Overall, it's a nice glass full of hops and I would buy it again (but not at the same price - it was too expensive).

A later view on the same beer:

I really shouldn't complain about an American Double IPA. I love these beers. This one in particular is not something to complain about - it isn't overbearing or wimpy, and for the style is quite drinkable. I'm not sure, but I think even the price was quite palatable.

Based on MY mood, though, it needed to be a bit srtonger - maltier, hoppier, etc. This would be a thin line to tread, as the balance is quite good. The other beers I was drinking today erred on the other side - too much. If the price is what I think, I will give this brew another chance, in large quantity.

Not the same sentiment, but the same drinker and the same beer. Just in a yard work setting.

Appearance: Copper ruby IPA. Excellent layer of white lacing. Very thick as well.

Smell: Sweet honey and caramel with a hint of maple syrup. Easily the sweetest DIPA I've ever smelled. Definitely malty for the style, but the maple creates a pine-line resin smell that is perfect for this.

Taste/Mouthfeel: Sweet pine, almost tastes like agave. A bit of a bubblegum twang as well. Alcohol hits you pretty quickly with this. Some orange rind in the finish. Very pleasant mouthfeel. Nice crispness and a very smooth finish. Not too heavy.

Overall: Very underrated.

Bottle > Sam Adam's Sensory Glass

A - Pours an amberish color, thick finger head white and foamy, medium lacing.
S - Resinouy Pine hops, toasted malt, rye, dark caramel. All that you smell is kinda subdued.
T - You get all the smells in the flavor, but its weak. The hops aren't really pronounced, but you get some bitterness, and an odd soapy flavor. Not horrid, but not great.
M - Medium mouthfeel, bitterness and that soapy flavor hang on.
O - After having the regular IPA, this is not nearly as good as that, its not really refreshing, nor does it have a good development of flavors, not sure what to think here other than its a letdown.

Pours a cloudy dark copper with a finger of head that dissipates rather quickly. The nose is reminiscent of tangerines. There is definitely malt present and upfront in the flavor profile. Hops are present as well, but not at the volume found in most top tier DIPAs. The finish is semi-dry an a touch bitter. There is some definite booziness both before the finish and as part of the aftertaste.

I am not quite sure what I am drinking here. It's not really a DIPA, rather it is more like an Imperial ESB (if there is such a thing).

Served in a pint glass at Derby Station in EGR. Was a fairly dark amber color with a small amount of white foamy head. The aroma was mild, was expecting a far more aggressive hoppy smell but just a hint of pine. The taste was also surprising but pleasantly so - the piney hops were there at the start, but quickly faded. This beer is quite balanced, and the hops seemed to blend nicely with the malts. The carbonation helps balance the mouthfeel as well, had to watch myself as this went down very easy. Really nice beer.

This had a very good smell when first poured. I liked the darker color. The hoppy taste is something that I really enjoy. I have found that I like a more hoppy beer that plays with the taste buds now that I stopped smoking a few months back. This is a good beer I can get much easier in Michigan. I wish that the better beers would be easier to get.
