I've been waiting for this day for so long. I first had Moat Mountain on-tap at the Blue Mermaid in Portsmouth, and I've been going up to North Conway for a weekend every summer since 2007 to enjoy the beers at the source. For the past five years, I've been hoping to be able to bring Moat Mountain home more than once a year in a growler, and the big 24 oz. cans have finally delivered on the dream!
A: Pours with a big, fluffy but airy white head; color is golden, slightly amber, clear with a dash of carbonation evident; reasonably attractive, but not the reason behind this beer's eminent beauty
S: The can pops open with a big juicy burst of fresh hops. The smell begins citrusy, then slightly piney, with the hops dominant and the malt only presenting itself in the shadows later. Overall, the smell is wonderful, fresh, crisp and hoppy.
T: Taste follows nose with an extremely crisp, fresh hoppiness that begins juicy citrus and ends dry piney. It is exquisitely balanced by a malt backbone while letting the hops do all the talking.
M: Medium; not as chewy as expected from smell or taste, but pleasant just the same
D: Extremely high; this is one of the most drinkable beers around. It is delicious easy-gong, crisp, low ABV; throwing back a 24 oz. can solo would be as easy and enjoyable as ordering a second pint of Iron Mike at the brewpub.
Hosanna!

lection Day is underway in America, and as millions vote across the country, we at 1009 are reflecting on what it truly means to be an American. With this in mind, I present to you this offering from Moat Mountain. This ale, beautiful in color, boasts a robust blend of flavors, none too offensive nor too soft-spoken. This is America in a can. Some may not like it, but most will, for in the end, home is where the heart is. Get out there and vote, if you haven’t already, ‘Niners — this is going to be one for the ages.

look is light gold with a 1/2 inch thick foam lingering head
smell citrus hops not over powering in fact the malt shines through
taste creamy pale ale - balance but seems much lighter than the abv at 5.6 in fact i had to check the can cause it seems more like a blonde ale
feel is medium light
overall a solid ale - crushable but average for a micro brew.
