A - Only slightly hazed golden yellow liquid with a thin white head that does have good retention, but minimal lacing down the glass.

S/T - Fairly standard barnyard funk and vague fruity esters, with nothing really standing out.

M - Medium body, lively carbonation while still maintaining a light creaminess across the palate, finishing mostly dry.

O - A standard, run-of-the-mill saison that's easy drinking, but nothing to really set itself apart from the rest.

I had this on-tap at the brewery. Poured into a 16oz. pint glass.Clear golden with nice yellow highlights. Decent white heading that somewhat goes flat midway through the tasting. Very little lacing left behind.

Smell is mostly fruity with some Belgian aroma's coming through pepper, lemon notes, some wheat malt in there.

A bit zesty at first taste, orange, lemon and a nice spicey-pepperiness kicks in to take over the ride. Finish's quite dry.

Mouth is light bodied and wonderfully carbonated in the mouth.Nice balance as well. A perfect refreshment for such a warm day.

A good saison but nothing out of the ball park here.

On tap at the brewery poured into an English pint glass. It pours a very hazy, almost opaque, brownish gold with a foamy white head. The nose is very Belgian with notes of bubble gum and candy sugar. Slight clove and yeast notes are there as well. The taste is a bit flat and cloying with lots of clove, some florals, spice, and belgian yeast. Overly aggressive carbonation tries to lighten this brew but ends up adding acidity and sharpness that doesn't seem appropriate. A light body with very prickly carbonation leads to a medium, clove laden finish.

Review from notes on 6/5/10

A nice bright goldenrod with a fluffy and well lacing white head. Loads of pepper and lemongrass with a nice touch of honey as well. Biscuity, hint of tartness, and lemon rind bittering in the finish. Light, peppery, very summertime indeed. I like very much so. Well carbonated. I shall nom nom nom nom nom it.

A - Golden straw color, little cloudy with a nice fluffy but thin head

S - earthy straw and processed grain scents

T - Slightly sweet grainy taste with a hint of belgian character

M - Smooth, crisp, light, refreshing

D - Good session beer with a lot of the earthy, grainy charachter i like in an ale mixed with good hints of Belgium.

Note: This is the new recipie for 2009, much more complex then previous incarnations. If you had it pre 09, i would recommend a new tasting.

Pours a light hue, nice carbonation, good yeasty aromas, some slightly sticky malts. Underripe fruits and slight sweetness on first taste, followed by a very subdued yeast character. A little watery on the finish- very mild in flavors for the style. Thankfully there's no diacetyl to ruin the finish- this brew gets props for drinkability for being the only "yeasty" beer my girlfriend wont wince at when sipping.

App: A nice light straw color with a nice white foamy head.

Smell: A slightly orange spicey smell. Could have been a bit more arromatic.

Taste: It had a nice yeasty flavor with a spicy citrus accent. It finshed a little hasrsh for my liking.Overall a nice light summer beer.

Mouth: A nice body and good carbonation but didn't have good staying power.

Drink: Good summer beer. Could easily drink a few. Very refreshing.

A very nice beer by a local brewery.

On tap at Standard Tap..
Appears a hazy pale gold with a 2 finger creamy white head. Little streaks of lacing are left behind.
Smell is of orange zest, along with mild amounts of coriander, lemons, and a touch of grassyness.
Taste is about the same as the aromas. There just seems to be enough coming through for you to get a grip on what the flavors are. It seems very subtle.
Mouthfeel is slightly sweet and citrusy with a hint of spiciness along with a dry finish.
Drinkability is good. It's just not the greatest saison out there. For what it's worth, I'll drink it if I see it again.

Pucker up, Johnny--this one's a citrus blast that seems designed just for people who like Mike's Hard Lemonade. Okay, I'm being too harsh. It's so-so. The citrus is cranked up way too high, diminishing other flavors (assuming they're there--I couldn't taste 'em), but it's okay in its way. Yard's redid its Philly Pale Ale recipe to make it a better beer. Here's hoping they do the same with this one.

Yellow, significant carbonation. Fragrance: orange and pepper spicey, drop of wheat, yeasty. Lace in glass. Dry and spicey, namely coriander, also some sugar, but not many spices that worked for me. Finish acidic lemon or lime citrus. At Ludwig's Beer Garden.

A hazy golden orange pour topped in a massive pillow of white head. The aroma is very bready and weak, not really giving me the aroma of a saison here.

I don't really think this is a saison, but a very mild weak pale ale. It had nothing going on at all. Some bready flavors with mild hop character. It was very light and crisp, with almost no body to it. I just can't see how this could even be compared to others in its class. Don't even bother with this one.

Had this on-tap at the Grey Lodge. Our own Venom liked this a lot. It was decent, but I didn't find it very exceptional. To me, this seemed like a good summer beer.

The appearance was a nice yellow color with very little head. It was not very aromatic. And the taste had a little bit of a malt profile but nothing special. It was very drinkable however.

This beer poured a hazy pale yellow with a thin white head. Spices, fruit, banana and yeasty aromas came through. The flavors in the taste was similar but I also noticed some distinct bubblegum notes. Strawberry bubblegum to be exact. A light bodied beer, this one went down easy and is another candidate for a great summertime beer. Very drinkable, flavorful and well crafted.

A - A finger's worth of lush whimsical airy whipped froth that is pure white in color... Slight to moderate retention gives way to a full veil of lacing and slight collar... The color is honey with an ever so slight haziness... A light to moderate bit of slightly sluggish carbonation rises within... Quite a bit of lacing clings to the glass...

S - Candied sugars... Belgian yeast... A slight fruitiness... A faint wheat component... Honey... A very inviting scent... Quite robust... A surprising depth and complexity...

T - A combination of wheat and Belgian yeast is first to great the senses... This is followed closely by the candied sugar and honey... There are some orange zest notes as well... The finish has a slight floral component... Excellent balance with good depth...

M -On the fuller side of light bodied... Sleek... Lush with a very rich texture... Just a kiss of carbonation, but still rather lively...

D - Not your text book Saison, but all the requisite elements are still present... An interesting spring / summer seasonal twist on one of my favorite styles... Not sure this could be considered amongst my top tier of Saisons, but none the less this could easily be a staple in my spring / summer seasonal rotation... Another find job by the fine folks at Yards...

Poured from a bottle (new label) into a nonic pint glass.

A: A medium golden color with a fluffy 2 finger white head Not much lacing.

S: Lots of yeast and fruit with banana, orange, lemon mixed with spicy pepper notes.

T: The fruit really comes out with a hefty yeast flavor that reminds me more of a hef than a saison. The fruit flavors of banana, orange, lemon and pear mix with a large peppery spice flavor that seems to really take over the beer. Mild sweetness lies underneath, but the pepper mixes with some herbal hops to keep the beer on the drier side. Finish is mostly spicy.

M: Medium at best, actually a bit thin maybe. A bit dry and bitter but not overly so. No alcohol.

O: Not the best Saison I've ever had. It was not overly refreshing, which I like in a good saison, and the pepper spice really seems to take over the beer.

Overall it's an ok beer, but I won't seek it out again. Nothing to remember here.

I poured this beer at about 60 degrees F and it is fine at that temperature. It poured a nice even and clear gold colour with a bright yellow/white two finger head of tiny bubbles that last as a full cap the entire drink leaving that Hopi Indian village in a cliff face kind of look behind on the glass. I dig it!

At this temperature the fruity yeast is most forward followed by an even mix of light malt sweetness, citrus and mild earthy hops as well as spices. Very nice!

The taste is barely dominated by any one thing in particular but more of a swirl of pale malt sweetness, fruits by the bushel of citrus, banana, and mildly tart apple, coriander like spices, mild hops and some pepper. If any one thing is more forward than the others is the pale malt. This is all very well balanced and comes off as mildly dry.

The mouthfeel is creamy and moderately full with mid-range carbonation. I don't think this beer could be crafted better. Everything is in sync.

Overall, I would recommend this beer to anyone as it would be a perfect crossover beer from the usual swill as well as a great recommendation to the beer connoisseur. If there was something that I could find wrong with this beer is that I only have one! 5 out of 5!!!

a: golden in color, thin layer of white carbonation, low retention

s: pale malt body, lots of sweet fruity ester aromas - primarily white grape with some glimpses of pit fruit, grassy hops, smells a bit on the sugary side, but not bad

m: carbonation medium to high, medium bodied with a sugary slickness

t: pale base malts with lots of sweet esters - mostly a white grape flavor, excessively sweet for the style, some orange peel flavor and sweet fruity spice, grassy/metallic hops bring a modest bittering to the finish, with residual sugars still lingering, resulting in an unclean finish that's not exactly refreshing

o: the aroma is fine, but the sweetness on the palate is a huge detractor, just way way way too sweet for what's supposed to be a crisp, refreshing summer ale

A - Pours with a small head of white foam on top of the hazy, golden body. The foam settles rapidly and leaves little lace in its wake.

S - Lig malt with some spicy notes of anise and pepper.

T - Sweet wheat and malt up front. Some anise in the middle and a finish of black pepper, clove, and light tartness.

M - Medium body, moderately high carbonation, and a balanced finish.

D - Not bad, it isn't particularly flavorful as saisons go but it's pleasant enough.

S: lemon and orange citrus, some pungent easy and candy sugar and corriander.

T: the cirtus is more tart and sour than sweet with the flavor a little bland. herbal notes, clove, light belgian yeast.

M: light to medium body and moderate to high carbonation. Not as dry as one would expect for the style.

I poured from the bottle to a pint glass. Clear, no noticeable yeast cloudiness. Gold color, a little darker than I'd expect. I can smell floral smells. I can taste hop bitterness, nothing sweet, no malt. The hop bitterness is not overwhelming, and they used a hop that I like. There is an aftertaste, but it's light and fades too quickly for me to figure out what it is I'm tasting. Maybe some fruitiness?

A: Pours a hazy medium golden yellow in color with some light amounts of visible carbonation and some yeast particles in suspension. The beer has a half finger tall white head that quickly reduces to a thin film covering the entire surface of the beer with a slightly thicker ring at the edges of the glass. Moderate amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Light to moderate aromas of pale malts along with some very light lemon/citrus, black pepper, and yeast. Very little funkiness.

T: Starts out with a pale malt body with some light hints of candi sugar sweetness, lemon citrus, and black pepper spice. There is a touch of yeasty flavors in the finish.

M: Slightly heavier than medium bodied with light to moderate amounts of carbonation. Dry in the finish.

O: This is a pretty average saison in my opinion, easy to drink and refreshing but not as good as some of the other saisons I have had recently. The flavors are quite enjoyable but this is not likely one that I will be rushing out to get again.

Poured from the bottle into a tulip glass.

A dull lemony yellow brown body, kind of opaque, with some nice rising thing carbonation, presents a good white and creamy head even and uniform. Settles slowly to a whipped up character. Fairly good looking.

Nose is some mild farmhouse like funk, slight spritzy carbon dioxide, small lemon, slightly floral. Subtle but nice.

Palate seems to be quite much what the nose provided. A good texture and body with a decent malt backbone. Dense malts give to a little bit of funky quality. Citrus and lemon seems to come out with some bread action on the finish. Sweet cream like tastes pop out a bit also.

Overall quite good, but also kind of hammered down. Good texture and feel really saves the beer, I could have this again.

A: Nice deep amber coloring, pours to a fingers worth of head that dissipates to a very thin veil of lace across the top.

S: Some biscuity malt tones with the belgian yeast and citrus/spices working thru.

T: Big spice notes coming thru right at the get-go. Belgian yeast is noticeable with the spices (clove and currant stand out), however there is a tart to comes thru as well at the end. Alcohol esters are noticeable with some banana and a hint of peach. Lightly bitter hop notes end with a dryness from the high ABV.

M: Light carbonation; dryness provides clean and crisp flavors with little to no after taste.

O: Tart and spicyness work together well, however it ends with a bitterness from the hops and a dryness that i found less then enjoyable. Would like to try it on tap to compare.

Pale amber and sudsy in the tall tulip. Quite attractive. A whiff of green beans from the soul food place in the smell, like ham fat and broth.

Rather tart with a mineral taste. But some sweet malt underneath. More of the sweet and sour flavor than I care for. A stew of yeasty flavors ending with a fair dose of hops and some herbal bitterness. Yet another variation on the Saison theme and what you can do with Belgian yeast. There is nothing wrong with this one and perhaps I am being unfair to be unimpressed.

From the 12 oz bottle. Nice foamy lacing to the end.
