Poured into a Guinness pint glass a deep dark chocolate brown with a half finger beige colored head that held pretty well.Aromas consisted mainly of coffee and earth with mild bitter chocolate.A fuller nice feel in the mouth,pretty smooth.Dry and roasted on the palate as it should be,dark roast coffee,unsweetened chocolate,and earthiness mainly stood out.A no frills but pretty true to form Irish stout,I would drink again.

Deep, almost impenetrable black appearance, with ruby highlights. Rich and thick froth with fine off-white bubbles. Lace is minimal, and not too detailed.

Nose is roasty coffee and cocoa, and as my bottle had been warmed to near room temperature, the chocolate tones seem more prominent.

Taste is smooth and almost smoky, with more of the charred chocolate and roasted coffee at the finish. Pretty tasty and well-done, and more than sessionable at only 4.7% percent ABV!

Thin, watery, and not a nice finish. This beer is probably the most disappointing of the Brooklyn beers I've ever tasted. This is not near as good as Guinness domestic (which itself is overrated).
If you want a good stout, look elsewhere. The Brooklyn dark chocolate stout is excellent. Albeit in a different category, there is no reason this brewer cannot make a really first class dry stout.

I have to give points for the packaging. A brown bottle with a green label with orange and white highlights reminiscent of the Irish flag.

The beer is almost black in color with a tan head. The head faded away fast and left no lacing.

Smell - Roasted Malts and Coffee

Taste - Roasted malts, coffee, cola with a dry finish.
.
Mouthfeel is light for a dark beer. Not watery, but not heavy.

Overall - A nice beer, but not outstanding.

This would be a fun beer to serve at a St. Patrick's Day Celebration.

Serving glass: Poured from bottle into Imperial Pint. My wife says that if I point out that it is a Brooklyn glass, then I am a capital D dork, rather than just a regular dork.

Appearance: Ruby black with initial moderate head, but it mostly dissipates, so that it ultimately looks like coke.

Smell: Smells like dry roasted malts, with touches of char, smoke, coffee and molasses. Some light, floral hops as well.

Taste: Same as the aroma, with light roasted notes of smoke, coffee and burnt molasses. Finish has some light hoppy notes along with the roasted bite.

Feel: Light bodied (as expected) with moderate carbonation. Finish is very dry and crisp.

Overall: Very drinkable, everyday Irish Stout. Enjoyable but doesn't stand out.

Appearance: Pours a very dark brown, near black body with a foamy, sandy brown head that settles out at a steady pace.

Smell: Roasted malts with a light scent of coffee, a little chocolate, too, and oven-roasted nuts. The hops mingle with the maltiness in the aroma to give a slight touch of Captain Black tobacco.

Taste: Malts notes of cola flavors, bittersweet chocolate, charred nuts, some dark caramel, roasted malt. Medium-low sweetness. English hops provide a little herbal bite and sufficient bitterness. A little hint of smokiness and some fruitiness comes out upon warming. Drying, herbal, nutty, mildly roasty finish.

Mouthfeel: Medium-light body. Medium carbonation. Smooth mouthfeel.

Overall: Not bad! I'm actually happy have a readily available dry stout in bottles that isn't nitrogen infused.

looked great from the pour into a pint glass. Dark black color with a thin beige head. Strong smell of coffee. Taste the coffee as well but weak compared to smell. Mouthfeel is light bodied as well as carbonation. Its a good brew but not one that makes my top ten. I'll offer this to those that believe Guiness is too heavy.

Appearance
Dark, dark brown (almost black) with some light penetration. Short tan head dissipates quickly.

Nose

Light-medium bodied, crisp and clean.

Overall
Pretty thin on flavor and rather watery. Easy drinking and sessionable.

12 oz bottle into tulip. best before June 2013.

A: dark brown body. very dark. head is slightly off-white but definitely not brown. retention is reasonable, minor lacing.

S: roasty and very ashy. dark roast coffee for a fleeting moment. this one smells dry.

T: bitter acrid roastyness. all roast here. a lot of tobacco lingers long into the finish. otherwise dry.

M: slick. definitely light bodied. this thing would be awesome nitrogenated, that said carb is a little high.

D: certainly a good example, nitro would put it over the top. if looking for roast and a super dry stout, check this out.

Pours a darker off white 1/2 finger slight creamy fizzy head that fades fairly quickly, no real lacing, almost pitch black color pretty much no light coming through.

Nose light roasty malts, light black malt, hint toasty biscuit like malt, caramel. Hops are light but interesting, light earthy grassy, but a hint of minty pine.

Taste starts with dark malts, little chalky and quite dry, black malts with a touch of acrid and slight char, maybe even burnt, that send to come with the powdered flavors. Fair bitterness from light earthy hops, faint hint of pine. Malts also bring light caramel and toasty biscuit. Finish is still quite dry, lingering bitterness with more earthy hops, little chewy hop, light black malt too.

Mouth is med bodied, nice carb, quite dry overall.

Overall not bad, decent malt profile but gets slightly burnt acrid, nice hop addition, etc.

A: Black on the pour with ruby hues. Clarity looks to be good. The creamy tan head is very inviting. It eventually settles into a quarter inch cap, but retains well from there.

S: Dull charcoal and roasted malt scents. Chocolate cake. Faint acidic twang and some burnt malts. Nutty. Slight earthy hop presence. On point for the style.

T: Charcoal and chocolate cake. Steely acidic twang comes in shortly after. Stale, burnt coffee grounds. Nutty tastes mid-palate. Charcoal and smoke resurface. Very faint earthy hop presence. Very dry throughout. Powdery chocolate, dry brownies, and a touch of bitter dark chocolate on the finish.

M: Medium bodied. Filling in the mouth, but it seems lighter than it is. Creamy, though a very active and aggressive carbonation rips through it a little too much and creates a foamy, overly seltzery impression.

O: It hits all the marks for the style, but it still comes across as a little bland. The foamy mouthfeel leaves a little something to be desired. The packaging and its gaudy green and orange coloring should help sell it when St Patrick's Day comes around, but there's better out there.

A- clear and black with mahogany highlights. Thin tan head disappears quickly and drops some spots of lace.

S- roasted with a grainy tartness. Tobacco and leather, damp wood and a touch of smoke.

T- mild coffee with a citrus orange hop edge. Dry flavor as the name would suggest. Not a sweet beer at all. Earthy and woodsy and slightly acidic. Finishes even drier with lingering grain flavor.

MF- lighter than it looks with assertive prickly carbonation. Coating and roasty on the cheeks.

D- a sessionable stout but rather monotone.

Pours a deep black. Thin tan head that dissipates quickly to a fizzy outer ring. Looks a lot like cola without the inner bubbles.
Smells of sweet caramel and deep roasted grains. A faint earthy hop undertone. Slight hints of dark chocolate and mild smooth espresso beans.

Starts a bit light, with mild dark malt flavor. Musty earthy hops blend with mild coffee and unsweetened chocolate. While the aroma is sweet, the flavor isn't. The hop bitterness is very slight, but enough to balance the flavor nicely. Finishes dry

Well balanced on the lighter side of medium bodied. Dry finish.

A pretty good beer but not something i'd want more than one of. good balance, dry and solid hop bitterness. A great beer for st patty's day festivities

Brooklyn's version of the Irish Dry Stout has made it to 12 oz bottles, re-dubbed "Dry Irish Stout" and in a beauty of a green and orange bottle. Delighted to try this one, wanted it since I knew they made one. Presumably not quite as good in a bottle, but oh well.

Appearance: Black. Had a nice brown head, but it hardly lasted unfortunately.

Smell: Smells the part. The bottle actually sums the scent up well enough. Roasted grains produce coffee and chocolate. Nice and rich aromas.

Taste: Pretty flavorful. Lots of roasty flavor, obvious notes of chocolate and coffee. This is what it says it is, and I have no problem with that at all. A little two dimensional, but it's not bad by any standard. Nice hop notes on the end give it some more character. A very earthy drink.

Mouthfeel: Particularly carbonated, actually. Nice sessionable lighter body. Not my favorite feel on a stout, but not bad.

Gotta say, not quite how I expected it, but very good overall for a bottled "Irish" stout.

would've expected this to be on nitro...

it's dark-dark, ruby highlights...good - head, coffee/tan, but spongy-foamy - laces fairly well

somewhat slightly hoppy aroma, but not nearly as much as I've experienced with other domestic interpretations, as well as the well-known, oft-encountered Irish examples - sort of that mineral, cold-clean, slick-roast thing - not bad, but weak considering straight tap...

fantastic blend/ratio of dark coffee, chocolate, and licorice flavor - leans mostly toward licorice, but it was great - faint hop bitterness, roast fell into the background, merely as a accentuating element to the dark malt collage

despite it having a noticeably more apparent viscosity in mouthfeel than is standard for the style, and subsequently seeming a little more fuller-bodied, it was a silky, stellar drink - in the end dry and immensely pleasing

all in all, this offering retains key qualities of the style, but adds some dimension to the product, giving it more depth and complexity, but arguably, expertly falling short of stepping out of bounds - hey, i like it!

On tap at the Common Table.

The beer pours a dark brown color with an off-white head. The aroma has a good bit of chocolate in it, as well as a hint of roasted malt. The flavor is very similar. There is a ton of dry cocoa notes in the flavor, as well as some roasted malt. The beer is very dry overall. Thin mouthfeel and low carbonation.

Arrives dark, nearly black, with a solid finger-width of tight foam resting on top. Retention is not so great as it dropped to a film in under 60 seconds. Good lacing though.
Smell is .... restrained. Weak. Coffee, cardboard and light malt notes are all I found.
Taste is weak, too. Weak coffee, toasted malt and cardboard notes are all that show up to the party and that's sad as Brooklyn is usually way better than this. The balance is good but so underwhelming.
To top off the Guinness recreation the body is light and watery with little aftertaste. Effervescence is appropriate and well done but that and lacing alone will not save this beer. If I wanted a pin of the most famous stout I would have ordered it instead. This needs to be redone. An ashy note does show up in the aftertaste. Slight warming as well.

On tap several mos. ago at House of 1000 Beers in New Kensington, PA.

Poured into a shaker pint: Solid opaque brown body under 3 fingers of glistening mocha head. Looks like mousse. Never saw a beer that looked like this. Head stands well, interesting, stays put. Not sure what's going on here.

Smells of light roast malt, light cocoa, slight fruit. Hop aroma grows, nutty.

Tastes of light roast grain, a little coffee, dry bread, very dry & surprisingly hoppy. Bitterness is strong for the style. I think part of the opacity in the appearance is suspended hop matter, which comes through in the taste. This tastes like hop sediment, really spicy & tannic.

Medium-full-bodied, creamy but sharply bitter, very dry, kind of tannic & sucks the moisture right out.

Not bad, some interesting stuff going on, not all pleasant. Can't get around thinking it actually has some hop material suspended in it.

Served on tap in a 10 oz chalice glass

Appearance – Served a black body with a light off white head. The head faded in moderate time to give a nice level of lacing.

Smell – The smell of roasted malt and a light amount of sweet caramel. There is a light aroma of roasted coffee and nut that mix with the malty base.

Taste – The taste started out a bit on the dark roasted breadier side with some light roasted coffee notes mixed within. The roasted coffee grew a bit stronger more midway through the taste and in turn gives the brew a more bitter taste. As the taste advances to its end it bitters even more as lighter hop flavors and some cocoa come to the tongue.

Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is a little bit on the lighter side with the carbonation level being slightly above average. The body could use a bit of the boost to accentuating the nice roasted flavors, with possibly a nitrogen pour enhancing the overall drinking experience.

Overall – It had some nice flavors due to the lighter hop and more cocoa at the end of the taste (which did it well), but the body was a little on the low side. Overall it was a just above average dry Irish.

Pours an opaque black, with a dense 2 finger cream head that lingers indefinitely.

Roast malt dominates the aroma, with a subtle hint of caramel sweetness and coffee grounds.

Flavor is burnt roast malt, tangy acrid coffee, with a floral, perfume hop finish. Odd range of tastes. The finish is a bit sweeter than expected. Chocolate makes a weak appearance as it warms, as well as tobacco and slight smoke. Dark cherries and cough syrup emerge.

Body is slightly light, with moderate carbonation.

Overall, more flavorful in malt and hop than a guinness. Good, to me, for the style.

Single finger head on a jet black body with decent lacing. Aroma is mild with roasted malt, mild licorice and chocolate note. Flavor is fairy watery with mostly roasted malt and light earthy and chocolate notes. Light bodies and moderate carbonation. Not my favorite genre as most are usually pretty simple. This one is definitely highly drinkable
