Served in a Lagunitas mason jar.
Somehow, this beer seems funnier after having just watched Gangs of New York... Anyway, this stuff pours a deep black-brown topped by a finger of khaki foam. The nose comprises mild coffee, roasted malts, and a twinge of bitter dark chocolate. The taste brings in more of the same, focusing on the coffee, darkening the roast of the malts, and adding a hint of cola in the background. The body is a light medium, with a light moderate carbonation and a surprisingly watery feel. Overall, a decent little Irish stout, but one that's way too thin for its own good and not creamy enough for mine.

Pours brown to black and leaves a pretty small light tan head and sparse lacing.
Aroma wise it's more like a brown ale to me, somewhat sweet and caramelly, with roasty and toasty notes.
Taste includes some brown sugar, roasty and toasty flavors, caramel, some coffee and chocolate. It's far sweeter than most dry stouts.
Body is pretty good, medium to thick, with a sweet, roasty aftertaste.
It's tasty but if I were doing the whole thing blind I would assume it was a brown ale. I'm still happy to drink it tho.

On tap several mos. ago at House of 1000 Beers in New Kensington, PA.
Poured into a shaker pint: Solid opaque brown body under 3 fingers of glistening mocha head. Looks like mousse. Never saw a beer that looked like this. Head stands well, interesting, stays put. Not sure what's going on here.
Smells of light roast malt, light cocoa, slight fruit. Hop aroma grows, nutty.
Tastes of light roast grain, a little coffee, dry bread, very dry & surprisingly hoppy. Bitterness is strong for the style. I think part of the opacity in the appearance is suspended hop matter, which comes through in the taste. This tastes like hop sediment, really spicy & tannic.
Medium-full-bodied, creamy but sharply bitter, very dry, kind of tannic & sucks the moisture right out.
Not bad, some interesting stuff going on, not all pleasant. Can't get around thinking it actually has some hop material suspended in it.

On tap at the Common Table.
The beer pours a dark brown color with an off-white head. The aroma has a good bit of chocolate in it, as well as a hint of roasted malt. The flavor is very similar. There is a ton of dry cocoa notes in the flavor, as well as some roasted malt. The beer is very dry overall. Thin mouthfeel and low carbonation.

A. It's basically pure black with a two-finger foamy tan head that dissipates fairly quickly leaving a bit of lacing behind.
S. Very strong nutty malt scent.
T/M. It has a dry metallic flavor. Some nuttiness underneath. Roasted malts to give it a burnt flavor. A hint of chocolate. Tingly on the palate.
O. I nice, if not very special. Nothing really jumps out, it's very unassuming. But it's not bad in any way. Refreshing and a nice session stout feel to it.

Deep, almost impenetrable black appearance, with ruby highlights. Rich and thick froth with fine off-white bubbles. Lace is minimal, and not too detailed.
Nose is roasty coffee and cocoa, and as my bottle had been warmed to near room temperature, the chocolate tones seem more prominent.
Taste is smooth and almost smoky, with more of the charred chocolate and roasted coffee at the finish. Pretty tasty and well-done, and more than sessionable at only 4.7% percent ABV!

Poured from a 12oz. bottle into a US tumbler pint glass.
A: The beer is a deep dark brown color with a thin beige head that fades quickly and leaves a thin lace on the glass.
S: The aroma is faint but contains roasted malts chocolate, some coffee and a touch of hops.
T: The taste starts out with a roasted malt character followed by mild flavors of chocolate and coffee. The hops presence is very mild and brings a little bit of balance. The after-taste is bitter-sweet.
M: Crisp and a little smooth, medium body, high carbonation for the style, finish is chalky and dry.
O: A little tasty, goes down ok, not too filling, mild kick, decent representation of style. It’s a decent beer to drink for a while but there are better choices in the style.

A: The beer is nearly jet black in color; a deep red color is visible near the bottom of the glass when it is held up to a bright light. It poured with a finger and a half high tan colored head that gradually died down and left a thick collar around the edge of the glass and some lacing down the sides.
S: There are light aromas of roasted malts in the nose.
T: The taste is similar to the smell, except that the roasted malt flavors are a bit stronger and there are also some hints of burnt malts and a slight amount of bitterness.
M: It feels mostly light-bodied and a little thin and airy on the palate with a bit of dryness and a moderate to high amount of carbonation.
O: This beer doesn't have a very complex aroma or taste, but it's extremely sessionable. I would imagine that this would taste even better on a nitro-tap.

12oz brown bottle with a freshness date.
Excellent frothing, three fingers tall. A few shades away from black with ruby highlights. Soft roasty aroma, mild chocolate, chicory, caramel and woody hops in the nose as well. Very smooth, slightly slick, medium bodied. Kiss of roasted grain, mild charcoal, hint of coffee, light sweetness, balanced hoppiness, finishes with a lingering charred note and semi-dry.
Pretty good, I'd still order this over Guinness Draught as that beer has certainly not been up to par with me for a while.

I poured a finger of head over this dark brown beer. It disappeared in about a minute. No lacing.
Smells of sweet, roasted malt. Bare hint of chocolate.
Sweet up front. Goes dry and lightly bitter after the initial sweetness. End/after taste has a slight bit of chocolate.
Mouthfeel is medium bodied. It is quite creamy.

As a tribute to one day of the year when we are all Irish, Brooklyn's Irish Dry Stout lives up to the name's sake with a highly roasty ale and surprisingly light finish.
The Stout pours with a very dark brown, maybe black appearance and with a glossy onyx-like sheen. A creamy whiter-than-expected white head caps the beer perfectly and offers rings of lace with each sip. A very masculine-looking beer!
Mild aromas of burnt toast, coffeeish roast, light caramel and cocoa. There's a malty scent than reminds me of nouget candies. Virtually no hop presence except for the lightest wood note, the beer has a simplified and clean aromatic set.
Flavors come about in the same fashion as aromas and quickly remind me of Guinness Draught. But the creamy flavors allow for greater penetration of roast, toast, and burnt embers. A most timid malt flavor and sweetness is similar to malted candies and caramel but are burried deep underneath the roasty focus. Mild hop bitterness weaves into the roasty coffee character as to not know when the roasty bitterness stops and the hoppy bitterness takes over. This is a very clean and easy drinking Stout.
Foregoing the predictable creaminess of nitrogen-infused Dry Stouts, Brooklyn allows the normal carbonation to develop a creamy malt texture that fades nicely into dry-roast texture in finish. With mild alcohol warmth and the powdery feel of roasted barley, the beer is surprisingly clean and refreshing in finish.
Brooklyn's Irish Dry Stout is a great and characterful ale to drink while clinging mugs with pub goers on the greenest holiday without worry of accessive drunkenness or palate fatigue. But for the staunch Stout lover, the beer is going to seem timid and lackluster.

From 03/24/12 notes. had on tap at RFD in DC. Served in a pint glass.
a - Pours a dark brown, almost black color, with one inch of light tan head and moderate carbonation evident.
s - Smells of roasted malts, light coffee, burnt malts, bready malts, light cream.
t - Tastes of coffee, cream, roasted malts, chocolate, burnt malts, and bready malts. Taste has some more coffe and is a little better then the nose.
m - Medium body and moderate to high carbonation. Smooth and creamy and very easy to drink. Best part of the beer.
o - Overall a decent beer from Brooklyn. Nose and taste have some light coffee and a lot ofroasted malts, nothing great really jumping out in either. Very nice body but otherwise a pretty standard irish dry. Probably wouldn't seek it out again.

Single finger head on a jet black body with decent lacing. Aroma is mild with roasted malt, mild licorice and chocolate note. Flavor is fairy watery with mostly roasted malt and light earthy and chocolate notes. Light bodies and moderate carbonation. Not my favorite genre as most are usually pretty simple. This one is definitely highly drinkable

Pours an opaque black, with a dense 2 finger cream head that lingers indefinitely.
Roast malt dominates the aroma, with a subtle hint of caramel sweetness and coffee grounds.
Flavor is burnt roast malt, tangy acrid coffee, with a floral, perfume hop finish. Odd range of tastes. The finish is a bit sweeter than expected. Chocolate makes a weak appearance as it warms, as well as tobacco and slight smoke. Dark cherries and cough syrup emerge.
Body is slightly light, with moderate carbonation.
Overall, more flavorful in malt and hop than a guinness. Good, to me, for the style.

looked great from the pour into a pint glass. Dark black color with a thin beige head. Strong smell of coffee. Taste the coffee as well but weak compared to smell. Mouthfeel is light bodied as well as carbonation. Its a good brew but not one that makes my top ten. I'll offer this to those that believe Guiness is too heavy.

64oz growler fill from CBX for St. Patty's Day. Down the hatch and took some notes...
A: Poured into a shaped Brooklyn pint glass - black; light tan 1.5 finger head that leaves no lace; not much retention; typical look.
S: Roasted malt; earthy / dry hop aroma; burned sugar.
T: Black / roasted malt; a touch of coffee; slight acridity; chalky / aspirin notes; light hop bitterness.
M: Light-medium feel; high carbonation; finds the middle ground between sticky and dry.
O: A sessionable stout with nice flavor; very traditional / basic if you will; a good St. Patty's brew if you want to knock back a few without any problems.

(Served in a Nonic)
A- This beer pours a jet black body with a tan film of cream on top
S- The mellow roasted black malt is nice but a bit soft
T- The roasted black malt is gentle with a slightly inky note and a slight tartness in the finish.
M- This beer has a medium mouthfeel with a scrubbing fizz finish that blends in with the tartness.
O- The tartness starts to overpower the mellow black malt flavor and the overall flavor is a bit light and one-dimensional. I was a bit underwhelmed considering the quality stuff Brooklyn does.

12 oz bottle of "Brooklyn Dry Irish Stout", 4.7% alcohol, served in a Belgian snifter.
A: The beer pours very dark mahogany brown, looking near black in the glass; a deep ruby color is visible at the edges of the glass under bright light. The moderate size, tan colored head soon died down to a thin partial top coat and a durable collar around the edge of the glass, with patchy lacing left on the sides.
Rather simple aroma of sweet and roasted malts. The taste reveals some subtle but spicy hops mixed with a stronger flavor of dark roasted malts. Sweet, with hints of chocolate up front, and some coffee in the mildly bitter finish.
M: Light-bodied: about as expected but, if anything, a bitter fuller. Some dryness; moderate carbonation.
O: No apparent flaws, but not very complex aroma or interesting either.

12 oz bottle into tulip. best before June 2013.
A: dark brown body. very dark. head is slightly off-white but definitely not brown. retention is reasonable, minor lacing.
S: roasty and very ashy. dark roast coffee for a fleeting moment. this one smells dry.
T: bitter acrid roastyness. all roast here. a lot of tobacco lingers long into the finish. otherwise dry.
M: slick. definitely light bodied. this thing would be awesome nitrogenated, that said carb is a little high.
D: certainly a good example, nitro would put it over the top. if looking for roast and a super dry stout, check this out.

Comes out of the tap a nearly opaque dark chocolate brown with a fairly thick light tan head - a good start. Strong aroma has semi-sweet chocolate, caramel and yeasty tones. Satisfying flavor is only subtly smoky, but has good coffee, chocolate and licorice notes plus hints of caramel and - is that horehound? Whatever. Texture seems a bit on the thin side for a stout, but is still decently fizzy. Overall, if not great, still worthy of a try.

A- Very dark brown, looks black once it settles into the pint glass. Bubbly tan head that leaves some slight lacing around the edges of the glass.
S- Roasty malts, slight coffee aroma, surprising hop presence in the nose.
T- Nice roasted malt flavor with the hops coming through from the middle to the end. The hop presence is more of an earthy flavor that almost comes through as a metallic flavor.
M- Medium-thin bodied, especially for a stout. Carbonation is on the medium-high side, almost a cola-like feel.
O- Nothing really stands out about this one, but it's not bad. Not a bad option if you are looking for a stout on the lighter side.

12 ounce bottle into pint glass, best before June 2013. Pours almost opaque dark brown color with a 1-2 finger dense tan head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty lacing clings down the glass. Aromas of light milk chocolate, cocoa, roasted malt, dark bread, toast, toffee, and some light and dark fruitiness. Solid and pleasant aromas with good balance; but there is hardly any strength here, very mild. Taste of milk chocolate, cocoa, roasted malt, light coffee, dark bread, toast, toffee, floral, and light fruitiness. Lingering notes of chocolate, roast, dark bread, light toffee, and light fruitiness on the finish for a short bit. Nice and pleasant balance of dark malt flavors and subtle fruitiness; with zero cloying flavors present on the finish as expected. Medium carbonation and light-medium bodied; with a lightly creamy and fairly crisp mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is well hidden with zero warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a good dry stout. A little mild on flavors; but has good balance and is easy to drink. A pleasantly enjoyable offering.

Pours a deep black with frothy tan head. Minimal lacing but otherwise very attractive.
Smell is almost good. If you fight for it, you can pickup weak notes of coffee and chocolate, but the main note is vaguely boozy and roasty.
Taste is a significant improvement over the nose, but still not quite there. Bitter dark chocolate, a bit of coffee. Bitter, but not in a hoppy way.
mouthfeel is thinner than I'd want in this stout. Plenty of carbonation though. Could use nitro in my opinion.
Overall not a bad beer, but it misses the mark in a lot of areas.

Snagged a single 12 oz bottle, mostly because the cool labeling (I want to like Brooklyn beers so bad but I just have a hard time doing it)
Poors a nice black, has a more carbonated texture almost like a coke. Tanish head that is not nearly as as fluffy and creamy as I hoped
Smell- nice, definitely some coffee, a little fruity
Taste- some earthy hops, dark malt, a little coffee and chocolate, brown sugar sweetness. Fairly mild on the palate. Aftertaste is really where it's at for me, get a really nice dry roasted barley with some coffee notes. The dry roasty, almost smoky tinge stains the palate, Very nice.
Mouthfeel- light, decent amount of carbonation, gets really watery towards the middle-end before the finish.
Overall- not too familiar with this style, but compared to Guinness it's very good, compared to American style stouts it's pretty weak and bland. But for 4.7 abv, this is a solid dark session beer (which seems to be the point of the Irish Dry Stout) with some good roasted flavors in there. Not a bad pick if in the mood for a lighter beer on the roasted/dark side of things
