Plenty of IPAs will promise you the moon and the stars, looking to seduce you with words of smashing bitterness and hops everlasting. Actually, we're not here to "blow you away with a lupulin cannon," or "peel the enamel off your teeth." East IPA is a clean, drinkable IPA that's packed with flavor and offers a bold balance, not a smack in the head. American hops soar in the bright piney aroma, while East Kent Goldings hops bring the taste of stone fruits and firm bitterness from IPA's ancestral British home. Give our East IPA a try with some rich crab cakes or salmon, strike up a conversation with farmhouse cheddars, and find harmony alongside spicy dishes. East IPA's blend of tradition and exuberance sets the standard for hop-driven deliciousness.

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a pint glass.
A: Pours clear, light golden, honey in color. Very thin head, soapy with little retention and no lacing to speak of.
S: Light citrus hops with underlying malts. I would have expected more hops from an IPA but I've been surprised by previous Brooklyn brews.
T: Citrus hops rush foremost but leave room for the light, pale malts they seem to be infused within. Getting past those initial hops allows you to taste those malts and the complexity of this brew comes forth. The finish is moderate, with a mix of early malts and then a longer linger of hops.
M&D: Mouthfeel is relatively light but has a deceptive fullness about it making it very satisfying and thirst quenching. Perhaps not quite as hoppy as I would like my IPA to be but it was enjoyable just the same and definitely worth checking out.

Clear dark gold, nice off-white head , great retention and lacing
Toasty malt, earthy, herbal, floral hop aromas. a hint of pine and sulfur
Pretty much tastes like it smells. Malt character is spot on. Clean, bitter finish
Medium bodied with lower carbonation. Pillowy mouthfeel without being starchy
Really good English IPA.

355 ml bottle, courtesy of Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 6.9%. Deep golden colour, big white head. Very nice aroma of fruity hops, hints of spruce. The flavour is definitely hoppy, but less so than most American IPAs. Some sweetness, the alcohol is noticeable. Notes of spruce again, moderate bitterness in the aftertaste.

Pours a nice reddish orange, eggshell head, decent lacing. Aroma of lemon, apple, citrus and pine. Taste has similar traits, mild hop finish. A bit thin, nice carbonation.

Look: Pours a light shade of orange with a big two finger head of off white foam that laces the glass very well. An insanely pretty looking beer I must admit.
Aroma: Slightly harsh notes of bitter lemon and caramel. Very light notes of sweet orange. A touch of bubblegum.
Taste: Upfront malty and sweet with rich notes of caramel and toffee. Goes spicy mid palate, with big notes of bitter lemon and orange peel. Borderline hot notes of pine resin. Toffee and caramel on the finish.
Feel: Slightly prickly. Somewhat hot; but not boozy. Medium body, high carbonation. Dry / bitter sensations on the palate mostly. Sort of leaves you thirsty.
Overall: I've never really cared for this beer, English IPA's aren't really my thing but I'm pleasantly surprised at how much I liked this since the last time I've had it. BB is a local brewery of mine and their beers are fairly popular and widely available so I've had this beer many, many times over the course of probably a decade or so. Personally I never really cared for it but it is growing on me as of late.
