This beer, a souvenir of visits to the LCBO in Toronto this past summer, pours a light golden colour, with a large amount of light soapy white head, which fades away slowly, leaving lace around the glass. The smell is very grainy, white soup cracker. This is very reminiscent of the multitude of pubs I visited in Prague, and their glorious 50 cent summer pours in that hot, sticky summer many moons ago. The taste is much the same, with bitter grassy hops mingling with the grainy malt. The carbonation is quite mild, and the finish dry, making this an agreeable quaff, if a bit bitter in the lingering aftertaste.

Thanks to my father-in-law for this obscure lager tick. Server in a pils glass. Best before June 14th, 2013. Pretty sure Kozel = Kozel Premium.

A - Two fingers of creamy off-white foam linger, with surprisingly good retention, yielding plenty of intricate lace patterns and a thick cap. Transparent golden straw with tons of visible bubbles racing upwards.

S - Generic lager aroma, with toasted grains, earthy and slightly skunky hops, perhaps a touch of corn sweetness. Pretty bland and inoffensive.

T - The taste is quite similar, with lightly toasted cereal grains and corn sweetness mid-palate before yielding to some mild hop bitterness. Again, inoffensive and largely forgettable.

M - Carbonation is a bit zesty and and harsh. Medium-light body, a tad watery but surprisingly creamy. Lightly sticky finish, and no apparent alcohol as you'd expect.

D - It's a generic Euro Lager more than a Czech Pilsner. If I had nothing else I could easily finish a 500ml can, but I can't justify wasting calories and alcohol units on this when I have much better options in the fridge. Not sure why the LCBO feels the need to stock so many beers taste nearly identical.

this is a really great Czech Pils that comes in a can ( so quite fresh) and redolent of good saaz hops. There is a real lightness to the beer yet the hops shine through. Add to my list of great pils in cans along with Wernesgruner and Pilsner Urquell.

Pours a frothy white head, quickly leaving a good film and nice lacing. Colour is a medium bright gold.

Smell has a balanced hop bitter character. Has a crisp mineral character as well. Fairly light in character, good, and pretty inviting.

Taste has a pleasant refreshing bitter bite, hops play into a malt background that is fairly mild. Some apple and grassy fruitiness to add to the palate. Finish is dry, slightly bitter.

Mouthfeel is medium body, carbonation is plentiful. Nice and crisp, with a mineral hint. On the end it is dry, with hops.

A traditional pilsner profile, very pleasant to drink. A pleasant bit of fruitiness along with the crispness, refreshing and sessionable. I'd pick up a couple for a refreshing summer afternoon.

I brought home a can of Kozel Premium from recent visit to Prague. The beer pours a clear golden color. The white head started thick, but then turned to a thin covering. Some lacing was present. The smell was grain, malt and hops. The taste was very much like the smell....malt, grain, and decent hop on the aftertaste that left the beer slightly bitter. The mouthfeel was a medium to light body with of carbonation. Overall it was not a bad beer....standard Euro lager.

500 mL can from the LCBO; best before April 2012. I have had quite a few glasses of Czech pilsener in my day, but this brand did not fill any of them.

Pours a bright, clear gold colour; highly effervescent with tons of carbonation clinging to the sides of the mug. The white, soapy one-finger head dies down over a few minutes, leaving a behind thin cap with good lacing. Nice grainy aroma; sweet-ish barley malt with some stale hop grassiness. Eager to taste this one.

Taste starts with sweet, shortbready barley malt and yeast, followed by good balancing earthy, slightly herbal Saaz hoppiness. A bit of lemon zest as well, with some lingering bitterness in the aftertaste. Light-bodied, with good carbonation levels and a very crisp, refreshing mouthfeel.

A solid Czech-style pils, but not necessarily my favourite. People who like Staropramen will probably enjoy this stuff as well. I might get it again, but for now there are too many others in this style I still want to try.

One bottle purchased in Prague.

.5L Bottle served in a glass mug.

A- Clear, deep gold. Thick but course head, with decent retention and mild lacing.

S- Cereal grains, hops.

T- Toasted malts and a near breadiness, significant amount of hop flavor. Light bitter aftertaste.

M- Mild bodied, medium carbonation.

D- I have mixed feelings about this beer. Decent drinkability but there are other Czech lagers I'd purchase first.

[Straight from the can]

Judging by these reviews this was supposed to much better than it was. Actually I feel like budweiser beat (boat) this one today. This isn't what I expected.( Nor what most of you would expect.) Of course these two don't compare well, they are much too different, I just happened to drink and review them one after another and I would have rather bought two cans of Bud instead Kozels like I did. This stuff is thick, sticky and gritty (well, sticky because I spilled in my hand and _had_ to wash it).
Not at all refreshing really. Not a drinking-beer kind of a beer. Too heavy and sweet. And the gritty dusty powdery thing bothers me. I can feel it in my teeth. Maybe this would go better with some food?

I like the dark version of Kozel better. When start going to that direction it's better to go all the way. (Possibly because of expectations)

I think this is not the first time I've been disappointed with this

Pours dark amber with a large, quickly fading head.
Nose shows hay, grassy hops and bready malt. Not amazingly appealing.
Flavours aren't much of an improvement, but instead show light sweet malt with a big grainy character.
Could use more carbonation.
Pretty boring stuff.

500ml Can from the LCBO, poured into a pilsner glass. Canned on March 11, 2011.

Poured gold with a hint of orange to it, soapy and dense 3+ finger head. High carbonation is evident, excellent head retention and big webbed lacing. Nose has some light grain and grassy hops, a dry sweetness to it overall. Taste is relatively simple as well, sweet and dry malt base, light hopping and again some light grassiness and mild bitterness in the finish. Dry again in the finish also. Good mouthfeel, appropriate high carbonation and a good drink. A decent, if tame, pilsner.
