One bottle purchased in Prague.

.5L bottle served in mu Purkmistr mug.

A- Pours a clear deep gold. one finger head with not much retention, no lacing.

S- Sweet malt with a touch of fruit.

T- Caramelized malts, earthy fruits. Little tart at the start, mellows to a hoppy bitterness. Little watered down.

M- medium body, mild carbonation.

D- Pretty good beer, sets itself apart from other Czech beers. Not something I'd search out but I prefer the 11 medium over the regular Svetly Kozel.

I'm surprised to be only the second person to review this beer. Then, after trying it, I realized that it was okay.

Big bubble head that dies far too quickly. Clear and dark straw color. No lace.

Strong yeasty aroma; second smell is of grainy malt.

Biscuity and chewy; some hop at the end. A thick beer but there is a lot of carbonation.

Another moderate beer in a nation of awesome beers.

Has a pleasantly bitter taste, gentle malt and hops aroma and a perfect spark. It has a higher alcohol % than the regular Kozel which is 10 degrees. That's how the measure ABV in czech. It has a slighlty darker color and little more bitterness than the regualr. Overall great beer.

One of the Wednesday Night Trivia crew was recently over in the Czech Republic for work and brought back some CANs for me. Once again, it pays to advertise and my thanks to Rod Shenk for the gift(s).

From the CAN: "Alcohol does not belong behind the wheel"; "Light lager"; "Zal. (Zalozena) Est. 1874".

Now why is there a prevalent goat if it is anything other than a Bock? The Crack was unobrusive but the Glug netted me two fingers of rocky French Vanilla-colored head with decent retention. Color was a beautiful sunshine-yellow with NE-quality clarity and lots of carbonation in evidence. Greg Koch may not approve, but I liked it! Nose was slightly grassy, so maybe the categorization is right, but it is muted for the style. It was definitely a lager, however, but again, why the goat if not a bock? Mouthfeel was full, thanks to all of its inherent carbonation and the taste was of a Czech Pils, albeit a muted one. It had a grassy hoppiness on the tongue, but I have had better during the madness known as The CANQuest (TM). It was as if they had just gone through the motions with this one where others really had some solid flavor. Finish was dry, but kind of bland. It just lack a sense of "Oomph!" that the style needs to distinguish it from a GER Pils. That's IMHO FWIW. The vilification may begin ... now.

Had this beer on tap in Prague...depending on which pub, and how good the taps are, your Kozel could taste quite different...this is just an average experience.

It has a clear, light golden color and fluffy foam, Kozel 11° begins with a fresh aroma of malt and hops, typical to Czech lagers. This is a sweeter lager, with a lighter mild taste of malt and a slight aftertaste of hops. Pleasant and refreshing, at 4.6% it’s not too strong, and with just enough kick.

Brought a can of Kozel Medium 11 home from Europe. The beer poured clear golden. A foamy white head forms initially then tones down. There was no lacing. The smell was malty with a touch of fruit. The taste included malt, dark fruit and slight hop. The mouthfeel was medium body and mild carbonation. Overall this was a good beer, the added fruit helped to change up from the typical czech style beers offered in this region.

Aroma
Slight grassiness from hops with a bit of caramel

Mouthfeel
Light on the palette with a bit of wateriness. Pretty lightly carbonated which helps but still a bit thin feeling

Appearance
Poured to nice head in 1/2 liter glass with small bubbles and lacing well but dissipated fairly quickly. Light gold with hint of amber

Taste
Hops follow through with grassiness and only a twinge of bitter. Hint of sweetness, good but not great

Drinkability
Rather, could definitely session as many as would like.

Overall
Not bad but not great. Drinkable but there's an odd sweetness/twang running through I'm not sure about
