Apparently this is brewed under contract by Miller Brewing Ft. Worth under contract of Pabst so they can still have the "Brewed in Texas" logo on the beer.
12 oz bottle of this new Lone Star offering pours a clear copper color with a thin, off-white head. Not much for retention or lacing.
Nose is a pretty offensive combination of burnt toast, plastic and maybe at a stretch, caramel. Not good.
Taste is near-burnt caramel with a moderate sweetness. It’s not as bad as it smells, but it is not really all that tasty. It is better than Lone Star and Lone Star Light, but compared to its competition, Shiner has this beat pretty handily. Michelob Amber Bock and AB Ziegenbock taste equally as bad as this, but seem to have more flavor overall. It’s not horrible, but I really can’t see myself buying this again. Perhaps if it had the typical Lone Star price point of 3.99-4.99 per sixer, but at 6.99 (what I paid for it), no way, Jose.

Lone Star Bock has essentially no head, but one can get a thin, beige one if the bottle is swished & poured in. No lacing, here. The appearance is clear, highly bubbly, and amber. Aroma is faint, but one can detect some sweet caramel. Taste is of sweetness, lots of toffee, bread crust, and a touch of hop bitterness at the end. Mouthfeel is light and watery, and Lone Star Bock finishes crisp, clean, refreshing, and quite drinkable. For a light-bodied bock, this is nice, and I would say it can be described at being very good.

Lone Star Bock is a tan colored brew with a head of foam that features large bubbles that dissapate quickly. The nose on this beer is odd, reminding me of light maple syrup served over frozen French toast.
The taste of this product isn't much better than the appearance. It features the taste of caramel with light smoke and light syrup, with corn and other adjuncts. The body of the beer is weak and watery and there is little if any hop presence.
This beer claims to be bock, but it is actually a very weak bock imposter and it has an artificial flavor that almost seems like fake caramel extract was added to the brewing process to acheive the taste. Some of the flavors I pick up on- smoke, caramel, maple- are normally indicative of a quality product, but not when it is made like this, using who-knows-what to achieve a certain flavor and keep costs low.
If you want a true bock beer, don't bother with this product. If you want an imitation craft bock beer that is sweeter than most beers and drinks like a glass of H2O, then give this product a try.

Appearance - The small off-white head diminished quickly to a faint ring around the glass; no lace. Nice dark brown in color with excellent clarity.
Smell - Big metallic mixed with burnt coffee and subtle band aid.
Flavor - Some malt sweetness but metallic and burnt throughout; blood-like aftertaste.
Mouthfeel - Light body with medium carbonation.
Overall - I managed to get half way through it before pouring out the remainder. This beer looked a lot better then it tasted, or smelled for that matter. I don’t think the issues that this beer had could solely be put down as 'handling' or 'freshness' issues. The metallic and burnt flavors and smells were so prominent that you'd have to consider the process, perhaps the intent, in the brewing of this beer as problematic.

Doesn't taste like much in the bottle. Pouring it into a pint glass is the only way to get the maple syrup-y smell and flavor. Once it's poured, it's a nice, drinkable beer. Not too sweet, so it doesn't get old after awhile. Decent beer, especially for the price.

Poured from bottle into pint glass. Big giant bubbles that form a weak, odd looking head.
Skunky aroma, which is odd for a bock in a dark bottle. Not much else. Maybe a little caramel. Certainly doesn't smell like I would expect a bock to smell.
Taste is less enjoyable. Strictly skunk and adjunct. Maybe rice and corn. Watery mouthfeel. This beer was made to be as cheap as possible and then slap a Texas theme on it to try and compete with Shiner Bock.
Did not succeed.

I was raised on good ol' Lone Star. So, when I saw this I was all excited. I love Shiner Bock, so I was anxious to try this. I was a lil disappointed. Too much of a caramel taste. Kind of grows on you after 2 or 3, but still a disappointment. And for the price might as well buy Shiner Bock.

Served in a Freetail 2012 shaker pint glass.
Thanks to twiggamortis420 for this bottle!
Shiner Bock, meet thy new neighbor and enemy, I guess. I dunno, it sounded all dramatic and shit in my head... Anyway, this stuff pours a clear amber topped by a small bit of short-lived off-white foam. The nose comprises French toast (lightly syrup-ed) and sweet flowers. Didn't see that coming... The taste holds notes of mild caramel, sweet flowers, a kiss of mild grass, and a vague sense of barley. This would actually be kinda nice if it weren't so painfully bland, as though they were trying only to intimate, to simulate flavor on a basically blank canvas. Perhaps it's a postmodernist statement? The body is a light medium, with a light moderate carbonation and a slightly slick feel. Overall, an offensively inoffensive beer, if that makes sense. This stuff smacks of a marketing maneuver to get people to pick up something that's not called a light lager but doesn't stray all that far from the light lager template. I could stand to drink this stuff, but I doubt I would ever actively choose to do so. Like I said before, look out, Shiner: your bailiwick is being encroached upon...

Appearance: Clear deep amber in color, with a small white head, which soon collapses to a fine layer of foam on the surface, the lacing is thin, fine, and glass-coating. The carbonation is slight.
Aroma: Burnt caramel, smoke, charcoal, and cooked vegetables.
Taste: Opens with a toasted, nearly burnt malt note, this carries throughout the taste, with some underlying notes of cooked vegetables. There is a lingering note of charcoal at the close.
Mouth feel: Thin and watery.
Drinkability/notes: A rather mediocre example of the style. As I recall, the previous version, circa 1990 was better. Zeigenbock has this one beaten hands down.
Presentation: Packaged in a twelve-ounce brown glass longneck bottle, served in a New Belgium Brewing chalice.
Sourced: Purchased at the Bru-Thru in Copperas Cove, TX for $7.99/six-pack.
