Not a bad beer, but more akin to old timers I would presume. It displayed a short lived foamy head that dissipated over a few seconds, and a light golden color (just as advertised on the side of the can). The initial thing I noticed was a stronger than normal scent of alcohol, and the overall flavor was consistant with what you would expect from the smell. Small flavor of corn and barley were noted, but overall, it was a straight-forward brew, reminding me of an ice-type beer. It's worth a try, but kind of hard to locate in Michigan these days. In any case, this beer shure beats the hell outta seeing more Budweiser or Busch cases on the shelves.

Drank a ton of this stuff in my teens and early twenties. Was dirt cheap and tasted good compared to others in the price range. Honestly it's not quite at the average level, but it's not far off.

An innocuous beer that was cheap. Possibly better than some sold at the same price point. My dad used to drink it and I would sneak cans when I was under age.

This is the beer you used to swipe a can of out of grandpa's fridge when you were a kid. Maybe that's why it always had a special place in my heart. Later during my high school and college years, it was my go-to budget beer, and at $3.49 for a twelvie back in the early 90's it was a bargain...heck, it left you with an extra 4 bits in your pocket over a twelvie of the Beast which usually went for $3.99...enough for a game of pool down at the local bowling alley (after you pounded them out back). It was always mocked by my friends who liked the Beast or Nattie light, but they didn't know what they were missing.

In all honesty, Goebel was a very average beer in a price range of mostly putrid swill for alternatives. Light, crisp, easy to drink, slightly metallic. But overall, better than most alternatives if you had five bucks and wanted a buzz. I miss it.

Lucked into this after not having seen it in years. While this is not a beer to impress your friends with it is pretty good for an inexpensive macro. After reacquainting myself with Goebel I won't apologize for saying it is a good BBQ or lawnmower beer.

This stuff really bummed me out. I love the sound of the name in the mouth of a blue-collar mid-westerner, but that's about it. It was dirty tasting, and really went down harsh. Maybe it was really stale because nobody buys much, but oh boy! I intentionally set out on a great lakes/ mid-west road trip to specifically source the lowly and down-trodden beers of decades past.

very clear, very cheap, big foamy head, zero lace towards the bottom. boring taste, boring smell, i like the can. kinda

well, what was i expecting? i got a twelve pack of this at kroger for five bucks. this is the first time i've ever bought a beer this cheap. but i'm not complaining. i'd rather give my money to the small guys who makes crap beer than the big guys. i'll be proud to drink it before bud any day.

Another one of the many small regional beers it is a shame to lose. Though this was never a killer beer, it satisfied a market need that has disappeared. Typical of the pale lager style it is light in the major areas of discrimination and very watery. Not a good go-to beer, it is still BTB.

This was one of my dad's beers growing up. Its not good at all. I can't believe dad drank this stuff for years (he drinks Miller Lite now, which isn't a huge step up, but I digress...). Back then (70s), it was brewed in Motown. I see this stuff still on sale around town. I beilieve it is contract brewed for Pabst by Miller, and can be found along with other old-school beers Miller churns out like Schlitz, Blatz, etc. We used to refer to this a "Joe-Bell" (say it in a French accent) and refer to it as a "fine French import".
