Clear and pale yellow, lots of fizz, not much head or lace.
Aroma is lightly sweet with notes of corn and not a lot else.
Taste is slightly sweet, with corn notes and just barely enough hops to detect. About what you'd expect from an adjunct lager.
Mouthfeel is fizzy and light bodied.
Overall it's not something I'd recommend unless maybe you're scrounging for quarters out of the back of your pickup truck.

Thanks to xpimptastikx for sending me the "National Beer of Texas". Can with best before date of November 26th, 2012. Served in a pilsner glass.
A - A couple fingers of white foam with surprisingly decent retention. Head settles to a thick, creamy, cap, with splotchy lace. Transparent urine yellow body, with fast-moving bubbles visible.
S - Cereal grains, metal, rice, a mild vegetal note, and perhaps a hint of lemony hop.
T - The taste is mostly grain and bread, with perhaps a touch of corn sweetness late on the palate. Fairly inoffensive when cold, but unsurprisingly gets worse as it warms up with more creamed corn and cooked veggies.
M - Harsh carbonation, grainy texture, and a fairly dry, crisp finish. Somewhat watery, light body, with no obvious alcohol presence.
D - It's an adjunct lager, and it doesn't really do much to differentiate itself from its competitors. I was able to finish the 12oz can thanks to the relative dearth of flavor, light body, and minimal alcohol, but it's not an experience I'm dying to repeat.

Being a avid craft beer drinker, you need to have a beer that you just have everyday. This is my beer just for that purpose. I've probably had every top notch beer made in the world, but this always sits in my fridge. Its a good cheap beer that does its job well, quenching my thirst after a long day of work. Then I will dig deeper into the fridge and pull out something else to sip on. Its good for what its worth.

Aroma is - well, crisp and malty, but lacking complexity. At least it smells like a beer, albeit an industrial brew. It pours a typical clear straw yellow, not much head. Flavor is - meh, a little malty, that’s all. I’ve had "lite" beers with more flavor. Texture is fizzy but rather watery. I had to try it, and at least now I know.

The slogan reads The National Beer of Texas on the can. Poured into a pint glass. Pours the color of straw with an abundant, quickly dissipating white head. Plenty of bubbles can be seen streaming from the bottom of the glass. The smell is the typical adjunct lager smell. There is barley, corn, and faint grassy hops.
The taste follows the nose. The barley and corn are detectable and typical of the adjunct lager taste. The hop flavor is mild. The body is light with plentiful carbonation. The finish is crisp and dry. The drinkability is very good. Overall, this is a good beer. It's unoffensive and accomplishes what it sets out to do.

I'm writing this from Austin, Texas so you know I've had plenty of these over the years. It is what it is...a class of beer that doesn't merit long paragraphs to describe it.
The only thing I'm going to say about Lone Star beer is that you have to serve it cold and then it's actually quite satisfying.
A shot of whiskey with a 16oz ice cold Lone Star chaser works for me.

Pours clear yellow with a white foamy head with fair retention and spotty lacing. Smells somewhat sweet with grain, corn, and hops.
The taste is somewhat sweet, with corn, grain, and hops. The hops provide a little balance to the sweetness.
Light bodied, plenty of carbonation, not much aftertaste. Not the best or worst adjunct lager I have tried. Nothing to get to excited about either.

Lone Star: It’s been called ‘the national beer of Texas,’ although given the history of its production that may be more a result of corporate consolidation as regional mass-produced lagers became sold off, consolidated, or went under until what remains is more a brand than the actual beer (from what I understand). In San Antonio it’s readily available at just about any dive bar and conjunto beer joint--and if it’s not then pick another place to drink. Honestly, the most appealing thing about this beer is that it’s cheap—usually cheaper than the BMC, even when they’re on sale. Other than that it’s exactly what you’d expect in a mass produced, fizzy adjunct lager.
For my 50th review I poured 6 oz. of Lone Star from a tall boy can into a taster glass (for review purposes). Then I shotgunned the rest and crushed the can on my forehead. Metaphorically speaking, of course.
The beer starts out with a lot of soapy foam but it dissipates quickly into a thin line of tight bubbles. It’s a clean, clear shade of yellow straw. I’m sure I’m not the only person who has compared the color of Lone Star (or adjunct lagers in general) to urine, but it eerily similar in this instance especially.
Fortunately, its smell doesn’t resemble its appearance. However, unfortunately, I get a lot of musty ‘old bar’ aroma on the nose. No hops or malts to speak of, just dank stale beer smells. I know they still Lone Star on draught but I can’t remember when the last time I had it in a pint glass was, but I think that this is a reminder why. Pour a good craft beer into the proper glassware and the aromas becomes such a part of the whole enjoyment of it; pour a crappy beer into the same glassware and you become aware of how off it smells even before you drink it.
Speaking of taste, it’s a light tasting beer, no body to speak of, with a bit of sweetness on the palate. There’s enough carbonation in this for me to say: Watch for beer burps afterwards.
Drink it cold, for as it warms up the flavor (what little there is to speak of) drops off. Completely.

Well I have a thing for trying cheap beer and I can mark this one off my list. Well its pretty much like all the rest of the adjunct beers. It pours a light golden yellow with a white head which doesn't leave much lacing. The smell is of sweet malts and lots of adjuncts, some corn and grain. The fell is pretty light, the taste is mostly sweet malts, with the corn adjunct flavor, no hop bite, kind of one dimensional and it does a poor job at that. Well it is what you'd expect, nothing special. Its something I'd try again but not something I'd buy.
As for the advertisements of this being the beer of Texas, I've never actually seen a Texan drink this, at least not in the Panhandle where the beer of up here is usually Coors Light or Shiner.

Appearance: A crystal-clear golden body capped by two fingers of fluffy white head that burns off quickly and leaves no lacing.
Aroma: Lemony hops over a relatively rich grainy malt body. Somewhat promising so far.
Flavor: Up front, a dash of spicy and lemony hops. Underneath, a relatively rich cereal-grainy backbone. It’s much maltier (well, grainier) than it is hoppier, but doesn’t feel unbalanced. Just a little sweet grain in the finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with medium carbonation and a clean finish.
Drinkability: Like every beer in this category, drinkability is there in spades for those that enjoy the flavor.
Verdict: I’m sad to say it, but Lone Star is a piss-poor representation of Texas beer. It’s has a bit more malt bite than most of it’s competition, but at the end of the day it’s just another in a sea of faceless beers in this style.

Smells like sweet corn and grain. However, sweetness does not jump out of the taste. It has high carbonation. It tastes like really cheap bread. It has an interesting bitter taste that is refreshingly different from the corn sweetness in most beers of this type. But still, it mostly just tastes like a mouthful of soggy off-brand bread.

Not a bad looking beer. Not something to write home about, but not bad. Pours a golden yellow color with a nice white head that sticks around a moment, no lacing. Smells of corn and grass, and a little grain. Tastes of corn and sweet malts, a little hops, and some simple syrup or something. Mouthfeel is fairly thin. Drinkability is pretty average too.

Grabbed a can of this one yesterday and opened it up to knock another off the list. Served cold and poured into a pint glass, it was consumed on 08/23/2010.
The pour is a light golden amber with a thin film of white that just barely covers the top for a few moments before settling down into a layer of nothing. Light grains and corn on the nose, but very light and nothing I would really write home about per se. clean, crisp taste, but again nothing that really is standing out for me, just seems to be lacking in nearly every aspect. Finish is just as quick as the start and no real aftertaste to speak of.
Overall it was just another in a lone of light lagers that just lack depth and profile. Not terrible, just uninteresting.

I've had this on-tap, out of a can, bottle, and keg. I have poured this into a Sam Adams pint glass, a large goblet, red plastic cup, American pint glass, and the experience is the same. This beer is just not that good.
In Texas bars and stores this beer is cheaper then most BMC products; however, in Chicago this beer is priced as if it were a low end premium. If you are not in Texas DO NOT pay too much for this beer. This beer is good if you find your self strapped for cash at a bar, as this will usually be the cheapest.
The aroma is not very strong and no matter the container the head does not stick around for very long and no lacing. It has a slight corn smell to it which shows up in the flavor.
It has that typical mass produced watered down taste and body. There is a slight roastiness to it that makes it somewhat distinctive compared to other macro brews, and it is a little more carbonated than most.
I usually drink this straight out of a 16oz can which is the best way to have it in my opinion. It does not really matter how you drink it, it still won't taste good. For some oddball reason I tend to drink a lot of this whenever I'm in Texas.

Thanks to woodychandler for the trade.Poured from a 12 oz. can. Has a light golden color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is mild, some notes of corn. Taste is very mild, almost nothing to this beer. Maybe a touch of malts and corn. Feels light in the mouth and is very drinkable. Overall other than for drinking games, this is a miss.

Honestly I think this beer is a little better than most are rating it. It really isn't all that bad for what it is.
Appearance: I have no idea. I drank it straight from the can as it should be.
Smell: Very sweet malty aroma with hints of grain and breadiness.
Taste: Similar to aroma with malty sweetness with hints if grain/cereal taste. Hop presense is minimal to non existent except for the slight bitterness.
Mouthfeel: Thin body with high carbonation.
Drinkability: Not a bad beer at all. Lets be honest they aren't trying to be the next hop bomb or coffeee stout. It is what it is. A simple american lager. I recommend getting these in cans and serving them extremely cold. Great beer for after mowing the lawn.

Lone Star has a thick, white head, and a very clear, highly carbonated golden appearance. Aroma is faint to nil, but a very slight grain smell can be detected. Taste is mild and light, yet pleasant. It has a stereotypical American-style lager flavor, not unlike Busch. Mouth-feel is light and watery. Overall, this is a satisfying beer, but not particularly unusual. Drinkability is very good; a lawnmowing or cookout beer. I like it. NOTE: I bought this in Texas- it is not sold in Louisiana. I drank this in a beer glass poured from a 16 oz. can.

I'm not going to break this beer down and review it piece by piece, it's just a simple beer that's meant to be an easy drinker. There aren't any notable hop or malt flavors in it, but it's smooth and refreshing, the type of beer you want at midnight in Texas when it's 82 degrees outside. It's cheaper than the more popular domestic light beers and it tastes better.
Lone Star is my favorite session beer and that's all that I expect from it, it isn't a bad beer at all.

CAN you dig it? The CANQuest is closing in on # 200! Keep 'em coming!
I was initially looking at two fingers' worth of bone-white head, but it slowly reduced away to wisps. Color was a pretty golden-yellow with NE-quality clarity. Nose had an odd twang, metallic along with a light sweetness. Oof. Mouthfeel was thin and watery with a light sweetness in the mouth. Finish was lightly sweet. Frankly, it was not as bad as the nose led me to expect. It would probably be okay as a lawnmower beer.
The CAN had homages to Stephen F. Austin, William B. Travis, The Alamo, and the words "Since 1845". It also read, "Texas Born & Brewed".

This beer tastes like a mix of an american adjunct lager and a malt liquour. It has the normal pale yellow color, tinny smell, and watery mouthfeel. It is really only worth drinking once since it is the National Beer of Texas, but it does not taste very good and is not worth pouring into a glass. The flavor of the beer is bland with metalic undertones. Not my favorite beer for sure.

Forget the standard format for reviews, this one sucks too much to necessitate such professionalism. I love the Great State of Texas. That is why I find this beer to be so utterly offensive.
As a beer, this is a macro-lager. There is nothing worth reporting on this other than that. If you are faced with the choice of this or a BMC, flip a coin because it does not matter.

Well, this isn't all that much different from any other macro. It's even worse from the can, though.
The color is the clear, pale yellow one would expect. There's a thin film of a head that still comes back if it's moved around in the glass but doesn't even bother with even the tiny amount of thin lacing I got from the bottle.
The aroma's very faint and all I can get is some grains, perhaps a little corn husk and a musky something. There's an astringent / metallic funk that wasn't in the bottle.
Watery, of course, with most of the flavor being corn husk and grains. Malt is there struggling to be tasted and the hops is just barely perceptible way in the back.
Mouthfeel isn't bad, but not even as good as from the bottle. It's pretty crisp with some smoothness. It's very thin and watery. Body is very light.

I must be some sort of masochist for tasting this beer. Maybe I feel some sort of obligation as a resident of the lone star state. Hey, it is a limited edition can (3 of 4 - cannon banner for Texas independence)...however, I dont think I will be trying to complete the collection.
Pours a perfectly clear light golden color with a fizzy white foam that dies off in a matter of seconds. Typical macro appearance.
Doesn't smell like a whole lot, and is not as foul as expected. Sweet corn and malt grains mixed with a bit of sulfurous carbonation and maybe some crusty biscuits.
Wow, that is pretty damn watery. Does not taste like much at all, nearly like a sparkling water with a very mild grain characteristic and a touch of alcohol. While this beer is not really that offensive when served very cold, it does very little for anyone with an appreciation for beer.
