This strikes me as quite a Scandinavian porter. There is a mild bit of molasses in the mix there and the juniper does get in on the party. But what's there is not overly intrusive and is slightly past being subtle. I like it. Carbonation is a bit high. Very pleasant drinker. I bet this would be pretty interesting on cask.

Poured into large Old Style glass.
Pours with smallish head, even with some aggressive dispensing. Slightly roast, slightly smoke but a nice berry like quality to the juniper. A neutral yeast quality. Very dark with no real highlights.
Pretty heavy body with a chewy after drink quality. Flavors are much more aggressive than the aroma with a full roast and hints of coffee. Roast is quite drying and lingering. Less juniper noted here.
This certainly fills the bill as a winter beer. Semi-rich, heavy and robust (esp. in the flavor).
Figured it a reasonable beer during the Packers play-off game against the 49er's.

Winterland pours a black color with a very small head. The aroma has a smokey malty kick, with hints of the juniper. The taste has a sweet gin like kick, then finishes smokey and dry, and has a bit of a boozy taste. Good full complex flavor. Overall this is a porter with a nice kick, unique, and I enjoy the gin like flavors.

A Green Bay based brewery that makes a winter beer brewed with juniper berries. Ok, well I can’t say I know what a juniper berry tastes like but I’m game! Kudos to Hinterland for marketing a distinctive 4pk-16oz package of bottles that is cool looking and does not mimic that of Sprecher’s. However having lifted a full case of Hinterland at work before, Jesus that’s a heavy case!
It pours a pitch black color with a light brown colored head. The scent is strong and robust. There are hints of sweet malts and coffee but not picking out any presence of sweet berries. There is a faint hint of cocoa as well in the mix.
The taste is very, very bold. There is a deep, robust, chalky flavor that erupts with a blend of coffee and tart berries. There is also a bitterness that is similar to a black IPA but not quite as strong. It’s flavorful, it’s unique, I don’t know what else to say.
This is certainly a taste that I can say I have never tasted before. There is a unique flavor that the robust brewing process mixed with the juniper berries produces. I will be the first to admit this is a beer that I can understand if people say they do not like. The 4pack-16oz bottles are cool from a beer standpoint, but with flavors like this Winterland you better find a beer buddy to split a bottle with. This is one of those beers that are so bold it’ll take you 20-30 minutes to drink a bottle by yourself.

A very well made brew. I liked it while tasting.
Appearance is excellent for an American porter. Pours pitch black. Very excellent over one finger thick brown-mocha colored creamy head that has decent retention.
Smells of juniper berries and roasted malts. Some minor coffee presence as well.
Taste is very much like a typical porter with some bitterness and a lot of juniper berries presence.
Mouth feel: Medium to slightly easy mouth feel. Dry finish. No astringency, just a tad over brewed with juniper berries.
A Try it once brew.

Pours a very dark brown, almost black, with a finger of tan/chocolate head. A very pretty looking beer, similar to how their Luna Coffee Stout looks.
Aroma is a strong roasted malt, coffee, chocolate, and a touch of the juniper beery. What little hop aroma there is appears to be of the earthy, English varieties.
The taste is a roasted coffee and chocolate malt up front but it finishes with just a bit of tartness and spice. I assume this is the juniper berry flavor coming through as I do not know what else to really attribute it to. All in all a very tasty beer that is better than I expected as it is primarily a good coffee stout backbone with just a touch of specialty flavoring to highlight that it is a holiday beer.
Mouthfeel is silky and smooth, viscous with a medium to medium high level of carbonation. It leaves the palate clean and crispy clear between each sip but makes each new one enjoyable.
Overall this is by no means a special beer but it is remarkably solid all around and does not have a single hole or weakness that I can find. I could have this one over and over again because of that. I always enjoy a well done beer with no noticeable flaws.

Reviewed from notes.
Pours out black with three fingers of fluffy tan head that lasts for several minutes and leaves behind respectable amounts of lacing on the inside of the glass. Somewhat thinner body than usual but lively enough in terms of carbonation.
Smells and tastes of deep charred malt, bitter dark chocolate, strong coffee, and a quasi-Sahti sort of juniper and apples accent streak. The juniper and apples fits in slightly better with the nose than it does in the flavor. It's a solid beer, but the juniper could stand to be reduced by about 15% for a slightly better balance IMHO, as it stands now it piles astringency on top of *even more* astringency until it becomes a bit much to handle.

Very dark beer, tan head. Smells of bitter chocolate, coffe and molasis. Chocolate and coffe flavours in the vanguard, followed by a pleasing malt sweetness through the middle. Roasted, bitter finish. Juniper is very subdued. It's there, but it decently takes a back seat. That being said, though it is mellow, the juniper is the rug that really ties the room together. A wonderful stout/porter beer.
