Pours a medium copper with a foamy white head. No lacing. Good clarity, some bubbles rising. I like the look of this beer alot.
Nose on this beer is a bit weak. Some toasted malt and floral hops.
Hop-forward, with some pine and citric notes, but you also ge the toasted malt, and some husk bitterness. If you are looking for frit or caramel, good luck. Grain and malt are obscured by the hops, ad the malt dries out a bit. Finishes with bitterness and some character.
Medium bodied and decently carbonated.
I liked this, but this presents itself somewhere between pale ale and IPA. Lacks a touch of sweetness that would give more balance. Likable beer, and worth getting again.

Poured from an undated 16 oz. bottle: very attractive reddish orange with a fluffy white head. There were suspended particles evident when held up to the light.
The aroma was very faint with hints of sweet caramel; no hop aroma detected.
As other reviewers have noted, this is a very mild ale, quite similar to many English imports. That is not to say it is not flavorful, just not what you expect in an "American pale ale". The flavor profile begins with a sweet, rounded malt flavor that never becomes cloying. Faint hints of sourness and fruit keep the ale refreshing and interesting.
Light-bodied with low carbonation, the ale has a thin and slick mouthfeel with a short-lived aftertaste.
This is a decent, quaffable ale, but not what I expected for the style. The Hinterland website refers to this as a "hybrid" pale ale. Perhaps they were going for both English and Amercan characteristics.

I tried this beer because the Hinterland rep is visiting me at work tomorrow and I figured there was no time like the present. The sample I received was a 16oz "pint".
S: Cloudy orange, 1/4 inch foam, floating skim that hung around until the end, well carbonated
S: Vegetal, earthy, slight citrus and resin with the faintest note of bread and yeast. Maltier than normal for this style of beer.
T: Correlates with the nose. Lite citrus notes with a hint of resin, earthy tea and the faintest bit of malt detected.
M: Carbonated, watery, lingering hops.
O: Very sessionable, not the best pale ale ever but good none the less. I enjoyed it more as it warmed up a bit.

I had this offering in a glass stein.
Appearance- The foam builds to about a finger's width and is a bright white. The frothy cap has a nice smattering of bubbles and cratering. Head retention is all right, and leave a little bit of spackled lace on the glass.
A transparent amber with copper-orange highlights does not have much carbonation visible.
Smell- The earthy and herbal scent reminds me of a hops profile you would find in a German lager. There is maybe just a hint of citrus in there underneath the earthy hop notes.
Taste- The hop flavors have an herbal tea, earthy and only slightly bitter feel going on. There is a wheaty-cereal malt aspect to the beer as well. The finish has more of the herbal hop note, and does not stay that bitter.
Mouth feel- This has a medium body, but is too carbonated and a little caustic in the finish, sort of fizzy. If this had more balance and was creamier it would help immensely.
Overall- The flavor of the beer is not bad, but remains a little dull. The mouth feel really drags this one down, and a lack of an interesting palate makes this a pretty ho-hum pale ale. Would be fine to drink again if you weren't going into it expecting much.

A - Gold-Orange color. Hazy for a pale ale. Unfiltered? Medium-low white head that dissipates after about 60 seconds.
S - Very light hop aroma, but no off notes.
T - Nice strong hop flavor. Malt is present but not overpowering- just enough to support hops. Finish is strongly bitter, but not astringent. No appreciable hop flavors other than the basics (i.e. no citrus, melon, or pine)
M - Thin like a pale ale should be. Very drinkable. Carbonation is appropriate for the style.
O - Not the best pale ale, but certainly not the worst. Aroma could use improvement, and hop flavor could be more complex. However, I could see this being very sessionable: quite a drinkable beer.

I had this beer a few months back and thought it was really good. It isn't your standard Pale Ale. It is a lot more malty tasting than hoppy. If you don't label it and expect it to be hoppy, it is a very good beer. The drinkability was not very high because it seemed to be a bit thicker ale than most pales. But I definitely would drink it again.

16 oz. bottle poured into an oversized wine glass. Actually, three 16 oz. bottles... A friend of mine, having never heard of Hinterland Brewery Restaurant, picked up a four-pack of this beer at Blanchard's this past weekend. I, having never heard of Hinterland Brewery Restaurant myself, partook in said four-pack tonight. Between the two of us and our two drinking partners, we managed to open up three bottles this evening. The first was a little bit flat, the second was a little bit disgusting, and the third was just downright terrifying. This is our story - for the most part, my ratings reflect an average of the three bottles.
I'll say this much: Hinterland's Pale Ale isn't a terrible-looking beer. Though our first bottle had some carbonation issues, the next two bottles we opened each poured a dark copper with a half-finger white head. Barleywine-esque, but not terrible.
The smell, however, was terrible. Rotting garbage atop faded hops and sickly malt. At one point, I described the aroma as reminiscent of an old, brown pineapple, the fruit flavor having degenerated into something old and spoiled. This might be the worst-smelling beer I've ever come across.
The taste was a minor improvement on the smell. While there was no overwheming pungent taste of garbage, those faded hops weren't helping things. Almost saccharine sweet, with a strong vegetable presence. Pretty repulsive stuff here.
Even the one carbonated bottle we found had a terrible mouthfeel. This is one syrupy APA, with a consistency somewhat similar to watered-down maple syrup.
An old pale ale? A spoiled pale ale? A poorly-stored pale ale? Fair questions all, and unfortunately I don't have answers. I can tell you that, after trying three successive bottles to make sure that the above-referenced flaws weren't isolated to just one or two bottles in the four-pack, I switched to wine.

16 oz bottle poured into a pint glass.
A - comes out a light orange color. clear through with a thin thin head on top. not much with retention but with that little head there is some lacing.
S - when i poured this out i got a fragrance of apple juice. closer inspection still hints at apples, sweet malts, a touch of caramel. a resiny hop smell on the back end.
T - sweet malts caramel and resiny hop oils on the back. taste is ok but if didn't have a watery taste to it this would be a damn fine pale ale.
M - medium carbonation medium bodied with a good pucker from the hops.
O - its an ok beer glad i got the chance to try it but wouldn't give it another visit.

Found a 1Pint bottle at my local liquor store, never seen this before. Copper color with no head. Only a couple of bubbles floating around. Nose is sweet. Caramel and grainy cereal malt with a touch of floral hops. Light body with some carbonation tingle. Malts are not as sweet as the nose made me think. Light sweetness at first but quickly a metallic flavor takes over. Hop bitterness is over bearing at the finish. Floral and orange rinds. It leaves a cloying bitterness at the back of my throat.
