A traditional English-style brown ale, but with more body. Its deep brown color comes from a combination of Chocolate and Black malts. Tall, dark and smooth – the perfect cure for the domestic beer blahs.

The appearance of this brew is about as good as it gets. I'm reminded of the "sweet" tea I had at the Bull & Finch some years ago -- they joked it was water straight out of the Charles River.
Really, really disappointing. No smell (ahem... river water). Taste is barely there. Mouthfeel is promising at first, but lightening to near-nothing.
Blah.

This beer pours a hazy, dark rust color with orange in the light, half-inch head and lasting lace. It's aroma is fruity, nutty, and a bit of vanilla. The flavor is begins with caramel and a fruity malt sweetness quickly taken over by a hop bitterness that lasts through the finish. The mouthfeel is thin. R J Rockers Bald Eagle Brown is an ok beer, Not recommended.

12oz bottle poured into a pint glass. Pours a hazy murky brown with an off-white head which fades and doesn't lave too much lacing and there's decent retention. There's alot of sediment/floaties. The aromas are very faint. Lots of caramel and chocolate malts. There's some raisins in the mix as well. The flavors are very grainy and has mineral like characteristics. There's a touch of maple and vanilla. There's a very subtle bitterness. The mouthfeel is on the heavier side of light-bodied. There's a high amount of carbonation, fizzy, but smooth. Alcohol goes unnoticed.
As a big brown ale fan, I can't say this one really grabbed my attention.

Dispensed from a 12oz bottle into a pint glass. Color is a somewhat hazy brown with little to no head and zero retention.
Aroma is sweet and sour. Maybe an off aroma from a bad fermentation or bad storage. Not impressed.
Taste was very lackluster and not brown ale at all. Very sweet. Almost like a doppelbock. Some hops. Lots of fruits as well; apples and cherries. Certainly doesnt seem like a brown to me.
Average mouthfeel. I dont think I could have more than one of these. A little bit of hop bitterness but little too sweet for my tastes. Not balanced enough. May be fine for others, but I will pass.

I like the head on this one, it lasts till the end. A full finger of tiny tight bubbles and lots of lacing. The color is right, but it's very cloudy, which hurts it.
Typical characteristics are there, but there's also some green apple sourness from the yeast that definitely should not be there.
Again, a big sour taste. The rich caramely malts that should be in a brown are not there, tastes like a pale ale with enough dark malt added to color it into brown ale category.
Very overcarbonated, the sip breaks apart in your muth. Also very drying for a brown.
Not a terrible beer by any means, but it misses the mark stylistically. The yeast needs more time to clean up it's byproducts and a little more specialty malt needs to be in there.

12 fl oz brown glass bottle with standard pressure cap served into me conical Guinness pint glass in me gaff in low altitude Los Angeles, California. Bottle acquired as part of an RJ Rockers variety pack at Hi-Time Liquor in Cost Mesa, California. Reviewed live. Expectations are average given the brewery.
Served refrigerator cold and allowed to warm over the course of consumption.
A: Pours a one finger head - thin, without much cream, and of mediocre retention. Colour is a semitransparent caramel-brown. No visible yeast particles.
Sm: Foul malts, stale cream, and awful off-nut notes. Repugnant. Moderately strong.
T: Nuts in the body and climax. Empty clean malts and stale cream comprise the open. No subtlety, complexity, or layering. Boring and bland. Imbalanced both structurally and flavour-wise.
Mf: Smooth and wet. The thickness is okay, but doesn't feel quite right. Slightly overcarbonated.
Dr: Drinkable but unremarkable. A rather dull and uninspired brown ale with little to offer even to fans of the style. I wouldn't get it again and wouldn't recommend it. It's priced alright, but far better brown ales can be had.

Good dark brown color. The fun ends there. Decent chocolate caramel smell. Weak thin watery malt flavor. This beer is unimpressive. I could knock them back all night because of the lack of mouthfeel and the all around wateriness but I could do the same with Bud Light.

Pours a dark mahogany brown color, with a thick, creamy off-white head, but the presence of a lot of chunky floaters detracts from the appearance. The aroma is light and nutty, with a little bit of caramel sweetness and some chocolate. The flavor likewise has a little bit of chocolate and some dark caramel sweetness, but there is also a substantial astringency that distracts and detracts from the dryly sweet flavor profile. The thin-medium body and fine, prickly carbonation do little to mask these problems. Overall, although aspects of this beer's character are fine, the totality of the drinking experience is not something to back for.

Label says 06/01/09, which I am assuming is the bottle date.
Really fluffy and aggressive head forms atop this beer. Off white with lots of structure. The beer itself is a lighter brown/amber color than I had expected. Good clarity with some visible carbonation. Head slowly begins to settle.
Fairly standard aroma with some sweetness, some caramel a bit of grain and some light citrus.
Truthfully, not much excitement here. An initial moment of fruit interrupted by roasted malt, then an acidic moment and some graininess. Rather straight forward and lacking a lot of complexity. The aftertaste is a little burnt.
Mouth feel is a bit light carbonation is very light.
It's drinkable, yet forgettable. Not much in the way of depth here.

Fairly aggressive pour only gets you half a finger of off-white foam, gone in a flash with zero lacing left behind. Filminess deepens the mahogany brown color, stronger orange tones come out around the edges along with more clarity. The nose has a light touch, caramel, maple evidence of the malts yet there's also a somewhat bitter grassiness to it, almost a saline quality too, blanched almonds, whiff of mixed white citrus, that's about it. Light-bodied, the light carbonation not doing much to activate what's there. Again, starts off with caramel, toffee, chocolate powder and maple syrup, here the grapefruit, lemon citrus component more pronounced. The roastiness is generalized, more feel than flavor. The leafy hops keep it clearly on the dry side of things. A few notes of cherry or blackberry fruit. Mild clenching through the finish. Not horrible by any means, just not something I'd be interested in tasting again.

Appears a semi-transparent amber toned dark brown with a small, off-white head that quickly fades away.
Smell is of sweet brown sugar, toasted nuts, vanilla, and cream.
Taste is of the mentioned aromas with a sweet, roasted nut, and sugary caramel malt flavor standing out.
Mouthfeel is medium bodied, nutty, caramel, smooth...perhaps a bit under-attenuated, as residual sweetness seems to be bordering on cloyingly sweet.

I poured this beer ito my tumbler at 50 degrees. The beer was a nice brown color with with a tan head. The beer looked good at first but then the head really went away fast. The beer did have good lacing though which was odd since the head wet away fast. The taste was too hoppy for me to be a brown ale. Thats just my opinion so my opinion is that I will not buy this again.

This is a very plain brown ale. It fits the profile very well, but nothing exceptional. Nice malty body, with a cleaner hops finish. Grades as average in aroma and appearance with a nice medium brown color with cream head, and predominately malt scent with some caramel. A decent beer, good for non "micro" folks being introduced to new beers.

[received in trade from jabocu]
Body is amber/brown/red with a minimal head that all but disappears, and quickly. Super-tiny bits of sediment floating throughout the beer. Not floaters, just really small bits that, if they were any smaller, would probably be called a "haze".
Smell is sweet malt, carries some honey aspects, with a light hops aroma along for the ride.
Flavor is interesting, finding a sugary character mingling with hops bitterness. The bitterness is pleasant at first, but becomes a bit strange in the aftertaste. The malt isn't bold or thick enough. The more I sip it, the more it tastes like an expired root beer.
Decent mouthfeel, probably my favorite aspect of this beer, because it feels right. Slick, hefty, tingly.
Not crazy about this one. It's too close to soda. Could be a fine brown ale, the recipe just needs some tweaking. It's as if the brewery is holding back. It needs more personality, or character, or something. I'm looking forward to trying the R.J. Rockers Patriot Pale Ale that I received in the same trade.

Look I am a local, and I love local beers. I buy them and want them to do well. If I were honest, however, I can say avoid this one. It's average at best. The appearance has all the hallmarks of a brown ale. The smells okay.. what I would expect from a brown ale. Taste-wise uninspired. Okay, yes. It tastes like a brown ale, but nothing really interesting. Nothing different from anything else. Mouthfeel is fine with okay carbonation. Overall, I just have yet to be WOWed by an RJ Rockers brew. They don't blow my socks off.

Acquired from mikesgroove courtesy of the Little Guy 2 BIF, so a big "Thank You" goes out to him. Poured from a 12oz bottle into a US tumbler pint glass.
A: The beer is a light reddish brown color, with a large off-white head that fades slowly and leaves a spotty lace on the glass.
S: The aroma is of roasted malts, caramel, chocolate, maple and a touch of hops.
T: The taste is sweet up front with flavors of caramel, chocolate and maple that are quickly followed by a heart malt character. There's a mild hops presence that brings a little bit of balance. The after-taste is slightly sweet.
M: Smooth and a little crisp, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is slightly sticky.
D: A little tasty, goes down ok, slightly filling, mild kick, decent representation of style, it's not a bad beer but there are better brown ales that I would choose first.

12oz bottle poured into a pilsner - fridge - 07/22/09
Appearance: Pours a transparent copper orange color with yellow highlights. Slow moving carbonation yields a cakey, 2.5", pillowy, ivory head. Great retention and lots of coating, spongy lace.
Smell: Biscuits with butter, caramel malt, fruit nuttiness and a total lack of hops.
Taste: A basic flavor profile of pinchy, vegetal hop bitterness over caramel malts. Some almond flavor resides in there somewhere.
Mouthfeel: Medium body, smooth, creamy texture and reasonable carbonation. An alcohol bite mixes with some bitterness.
Drinkability: Again, this is a middle-of-the-road beer that doesn't pull any surprises. It is solid, but not spectacular. A worthwhile session brew.

Had on tap.
Served in a pint glass, the beer arrived hazy brown with a 1.5 finger tan head. Really great lacing.
Roasted malt is quite apparent in the aroma along with a touch of cocoa and spicy hops.
Flavor starts out with the roasted malt and transitions into a bit of cocoa and coffee. Spicy hops are there along with a very light nuttiness. Moderate to high bitterness is present throughout and lingers for quite awhile.
Overall a pretty average brown ale. I would get again.

Pulled from a variety 12-pack I picked up at State Line in Maryland. Appears a clear red-brown in glass with a tall head that quickly disappears. While I thought the Patriot Pale was a good simple beer, I think this is a bad simple beer. The flavor is a little watery, which is a kiss of death when you're looking for a great session beer. Instead of being full-flavored yet drinkable, it's a little thick and not very tasty. The aroma has a pleasant dry cocoa note, but the flavor is just simple dark bread crust with a touch of juicy caramel, not much else. I'd pass.

A - Slightly murky medium brown cola color... The thinnest of slight tan colored heads quickly fizzes away... Lacing is thicker in middle of glass, then fades slightly and builds again around the edges of the glass... Lots of tiny fast paced carbonation rises throughout...
S - Toasted malts... Brown sugar... Caramel... Nutty... Butter... Fig... A faint hint of dark chocolate... Pleasant, but mildly understated...
T - Roasted malt... Coffee mixed with artificial sweetner... Bitter chocolate... Slightly nutty... Some decent components, but the flavors don't seem to compliment one another or work together well... Sort of a muddled mess of flavors...
M - Medium bodied... Slightly thin... Lots of fizzy carbonation on the tongue... Chalky in a bland sort of way...
D - A good looking and good smelling brown ale that falls a little short in the taste and mouthfeel departments... Drinkable, but not memorable... Not bad, but there are many a better brown ale out there...

Taste: Some dried strawberry (I think that is the tart I'm getting), light chocolate, and nut..
Mouthfeel: Light carbonation. Slightly watery.
I'm not sure what to think of this brew. It has an interesting smell and taste. However, it's quite light in both regards, and perhaps too blandly balanced. There is a slight hollowness or watery taste that makes this appear rather weak. It's a decent drink, however, I wouldn't get it again.

12-oz bottle poured into a pint glass.
A = Clear reddish brown liquid, very small bone white head that quickly resolves into a thin foam layer covering the surface, light lacing, lots of large carbonation bubbles (almost soda like).
S = Good complex smells of walnuts, almonds, light maple, slight floral and earthy hops notes. Well balanced.
T = A little too bitter without a sweet malt balance and a little too thin tasting. Not bad, but just not enough there, a litle too watered down in the tastes. If it could have carried some of the nutty scents from the nose into the taste it would have scored far better.
M = Light bodied, carbonation is a mix of foamy and stinging bubbles, fair mouthcoating though.
D = This is a very approachable beer and I could definitely see drinking it again. Its faults are really just that it doesn't quite bring enough flavor to the table. Otherwise, it is a fair enough little beer.

Bald Eagle pours a transparent dark brown with some ruby highlights. Head is really thin & dissapates quickly into a thin white ring. Almost no lacing.
Smell is nice--caramel malts, earthy with some sweet chocolate, maybe some whiskey. Not much to the taste, just some faint caramel & sweet malts. The mouthfeel is somewhat acidic yet smooth. It's thinner than I expected.
Overall, this is a moderately drinkable beer, but there are a lot of other browns out there with fuller tastes & better feel.
