Growler from GBX.
A: Very dark brown with a creamy brown head that dissipates quickly.
S: oats, corn, like shrimp (not sure why that's there but it is), grainy. Pretty interesting.
T: A dull bitter seems to overpower here. It's followed by a slight sweetness and a slight grainy flavor. A smidgen of vanilla.
M: Sits with a fully body and carbonation is perfect. Lingering bitterness doesn't hit pleasantly though.
Overall this is a pretty good beer but not a great beer. There are hints of grain and vanilla but there is an overpowering bitterness that wipes them out. There's nothing wrong with some bitterness in a stout but here is doesn't seem to compliment the other flavors. It's worth checking out but I've had better high ABV stouts. Also as for the coffee that this is made with: the acidity seems to be there but the flavor is very subtle. I long for the day when I have a coffee beer that tastes like coffee.

On draft at Smoke and Barrel in D.C.
The beer is black with an inch of thick, creamy foam. The aroma brings a big dose of chocolate and oatmeal. The coffee is an aspect of the beer, and while present, does not dominate the flavor, as seems to be the trend with other bees of this ilk. Medium bodied with some lingering dark chocolate and charred roast. I would write more but it's my turn to hold the baby.

Tap at Grapevine. Sturdy black pour, brown around the edge and a thin layer of tan froth.
Aroma, a bold cocoa and mocha latte. Roast grainy malt as well.
Taste, roast malty goodness. Dark chocolate, caramel and cocoa. A mocha type coffee finish.
Robust creamy mouthfeel that coats very well. No abv noticeable. Like a warm java milkshake, though there is not any note of lactose. Oats definetely show themselves here.
My favorite so far from RJ's.

Thanks to aasher, I'm getting to try this one. Growler to HF tulip, probably a little too cold. I'll let it sit for a few minutes.
A - Pours nearly black with a nice mocha head. Head retention is really nice, as the lacing remains for a while and returns regularly. Could have better legs.
S - Soft oatmeal with some sweet chocolate. Little subdued.
T - Chocolate oatmeal, good balance in sweetness/dryness, cocoa towards the finish, some coffee. Coffee blends well with the other flavors, and after a couple sips it sits on the finish. Chocolate comes through more as it warms.
M - Lighter to medium body with some carbonation. Quite nice for the style.
O - I like this one a bit. Great for the style, reminds me a lot of Velvet Merlin.

This beer was courtesy of Calton, who else? Haha. This beer is a collaboration between the guys at at GBX, who are awesome, and RJ Rockers out of Spartanburg.
The Fix pours a full bodied black chocolate black in color with a one finger mocha head. The nose consists of sweet smooth chocolates, cream, slight roast, and dark malts. The flavors are rich and fresh. There is a good amount of coffee and bitter chocolate with a nice creaminess and moderate bitterness. It has nice flavor, on par for the style. It drinks full bodied and you don't get any of the 8%. I like it. It is a fine oatmeal stout. The coffee and chocolate work well together. Buy it while you can!

"The Greenville Beer Exchange is proud to announce that we have collaborated with our friends at RJ Rockers to brew a beast of a beer! Pitch black, 8% ABV, and fortified with some thick coffee, The Fix is a small batch production and something you definitely won’t want to miss! To brew this monster, we started with some of the best European-style malts we could get, tossed in a heaping helping of oatmeal, and used a special Mokha Java coffee blend roasted by our friends at The Old Wwworld Café specifically for this beer. Boasting notes of baker’s cocoa, dark fruit, and rich coffee, The Fix is sure to satiate the cravings of any dark beer drinker."
Had this one at the debut of it at the brewery as I couldn't make it to the store's debut! Glad to see more of the stores in this area collaborating with some of the breweries here! Served from tap into an RJ Rockers shaker. Poured pitch black with a half finger brown head that subsided to a minimal amount slowly. Maintained phenomenal lacing throughout the glass. The aroma was comprised of sweet malt, roasted malt, coffee, and oatmeal. The flavor was of sweet malt, coffee, roasted malt, cream, oatmeal, subtle dark fruit, and smoke (upon warming). It had a heavy feel on the palate with mild carbonation (almost creamy in texture). Overall this was a pretty good brew. I really like how they were able to incorporate the coffee into the oatmeal stout on this one while not overpowering the oatmeal which can be easy to do. The ABV on this one is nowhere to be found, so take this as a warning if you just cracked open a 64 oz growler of this. The nose on this was nice and bold, but not overpowering in any way. Definitely a well done brew that I'm glad I got the chance to try and will get to many more times in the future. I suggest you try to do the same. Tick.
