Appearance: Pours a slightly hazy amber color (surprise!) with a modest head that does a decent job of lacing

Smell: Caramel and grain with a bit o honey

Taste: The caramel, grain and honey flavors all are present from the outset, with the honey growing more pronounced by mid-palate; though this beer could have been a sweet mess, there is just enough balance from the lemony herbal hops to prevent that, particularly in the finish

Mouthfeel: Medium body with moderate carbonation

Drinkability: Not a style I would normally seek out, but well executed by the folks in the Sparkle City and a nice crossover beer, to boot

12 fl oz brown glass bottle with standard pressure cap served into a conical Guinness pint glass in me gaff in low altitude Los Angeles, California. Reviewed live. Expectations are average given the brewery. Acquired at Hi-Time Liquor in Costa Mesa, California as part of a variety box from the brewery.

Served refrigerator cold. Side-poured with standard vigor as no carbonation issues are anticipated.

A: Pours a two finger head of fair cream, decent thickness, and good retention. Colour is an amberish copper. No yeast particles are visible. No bubble show.

Sm: Honey, amber hops, clean malts, and light toasted malt. A moderate strength aroma.

T: Honey, amber hops, amber malts, and very light toasted malt. A bit bland and simple. Boring. Not complex and not subtle. Decently balanced. Somewhat stale. Unrefreshing. No alcohol or yeast comes through.

Mf: Smooth and wet. A touch too thick for the flavour profile. Adequately carbonated. Somewhat dry on the finish. Doesn't really suit the flavour profile at all.

Dr: Drinkable but unremarkable. Neither unique nor special. I don't really care for it. Priced kind of high, even as import. Of limited quality. I wouldn't get it again, nor would I recommend it to friends. I've yet to be impressed by this brewery.

12oz bottle poured into a pint glass.

Appearance is a medium brown with a slight chill haze. Thick one finger head that refuses to go away. Lacing is ok.

Smell is very malty with dark bread and honey.

Flavor is sweet from the get go but not overly so. Bready malts abound with the honey being very detectable along with some brown sugar. There are some very faint piney hops detectable at the finish with some mild bitterness. Mouthfeel is just a little thin.

Overall I really like this brew. The maltiness is quite nice and there is enough bitterness for balance. Will definitely be getting again.

Review from BeerAdvocate magazine Vol. III Issue I:

Fluffy tan foam, hazy reddish amber. Good head retention. Bready maltiness with bursts of caramel and honey in the nose. The smoothness we were looking for is present, which adds to the drinkability tenfold. Firm pocket of breadiness sets the tone of this beer with every sip; mild caramel rounds the maltiness out and the honey tags along to enhance the sweetness. Quick kiss of hop bitterness and lemony herbal flavor has no problem keeping balance here. Dry toasted cracker graininess ties up the finish.

A bit of a malt bomb with a complimenting honey component; a bit of a session beer as well. A perfect go-to beer when you're looking to go to the malt side of beer rather than getting slapped around with hops.

Served from bottle into a Hooters/Bud Light shaker (wonder where I drank this one?). Pours red-orange with a minimal off-white head. Maintained nice lacing throughout. The aroma was comprised of malt, subtle hop, and honey. The flavor was of malt, honey, sugar, and very little hop. It was light on the palate with low carbonation. Overall this was a very refreshing brew to have on a hot day. However, it was not my favorite brew from RJ Rockers, but it was also not anywhere near the bottom. It was really quite nice for what they were aiming to brew with the honey character, but it was just not something my palate enjoys as much. The very subtle hop note was nice as it did not overpower the other flavors that were present in the brew allowing them to shine through.

Poured from a bottle into a pint glass.

Reddish amber pour. About a finger of white foam sticks around for a little while. Not a whole lot of lacing stuck to the glass.

Malty sweet nose. Caramel and honey are pretty dominant. There's also some grain, and maybe even a bit of a grassy character.

Flavor pretty much follows. Not an exciting beer, but nothing off-putting. Honey and caramel sweetness, lightly grainy, with some earthy, spicy hops.

Medium body, appropriate carbonation. Very easy drinker. It's not great, but it's sessionable, and a decent effort from a local brewer.

Surprising that I'm only the 14th review on this. I am kind of disappointed with myself for not trying this earlier when I saw it on tap, but the honey ale name lead me to believe this would be a brown ale type malty beer(not my favorite).

Poured into a tulip glass from a 12oz. bottle with a date of 020310(assuming it is the bottled date as there is not an explanation?)

A: Slightly hazy after the vigorous pour from what appeared to be bottle-conditioned container. Reddish amber with a nice off-white head that lasts a while and leaves a light to moderate lacing.

S: Nose is sweet, cola or cream soda and honey dominate. Nice caramel smell in the background, like from a nice Cadbury caramel chocolate bar.

T&M: Slightly sweet, light bodied beer that is slightly rough with respect to the carbonation and mouthfeel. Finishes with a lightly roasted malt flavor. Mild tartness but the honey theme follows all the way through. Not much to the flavor other than the honey though. Feel is a little on the thin side up front, but fills in a bit as it follows through. The flavor comes out more as I reach the bottom of the glass.

Very easy to drink. Nice session beer.

Ya know I really have to hand it to RJ Rockers, they have really gotten their stuff together. Even the regular releases have been stellar as of late. Served cold and poured into a pint glass, this one was consumed on 01/30/2010.

The pour was very well presented with a nice reddish amber that was capped with a nice white top that reached a height of around two inches before settling back down and coating the sides of the glass very nicely. Aroma of caramel, sweet honey notes and loads of bready malts dominates the air. Warming brings out a touch of light grasses and a smooth, almost biscuit like property that seems to fit very well. Such a clean, crisp taste here. Really nicely done. Bready and even, with a light herbal hop note that dries out the palate very well. Smooth, even carbonation and a light body make this go down pratically like water.

Overall this was very, very solid. A great session beer and it was thoroughly enjoyed this afternoon.

Pours, well, honey gold. Nice, frothy, 1-finger head. Decent retention and lacing.

Nose is very sweet. Cola and honey combine and dominate the nose. Really sweet. Caramel in the background.

Hits sweet, slightly tea-ish, and finishes with a surprising roast flavor. Slight tart fruit on the backend. Better than I expected based on the aroma.

Feel is a little on the thin side, but not inappropriate for the taste.

Very easy to drink. Excellent session drinker.

Acquired from mikesgroove courtesy of the Little Guy 2 BIF, so a big "Thank You" goes out to him. Poured from a 12oz bottle into a US tumbler pint glass.

A: The beer is a light coppery brown color, with a thin off-white head that fades quickly and leaves a thin lace on the glass.

S: The aroma is of caramelized malts, honey, some fruit and a little bit of hops.

T: The taste starts out sweet and malty with flavors of honey, citrus and caramel. There's a decent hops presence that comes in to provide a good balance. Everything seems to smooth out as you continue to drink the beer. The after-taste is slightly sweet.

M: Crisp and very smooth, medium-to-heavy body, medium carbonation, finish is slightly sticky.

D: Tasty, goes down easily, not too filling, decent kick, good representation of style, it's a rather mediocre beer overall, but it's worth drinking for a while.

She pours a reddish hue into the glass, with a wee bit of head, not much lacing or retention here.
The smell is a delicate balance of floral honey notes and a malty backbone.
The taste is quite surprising, it starts with an almost earthy sweetness, then wanders into a typical maltiness, only to be followed with a mix of honey and hops. A very nice blend that really arroused my taste buds.
The mouth is thick, with good carbonation.
The drinkability is decent, I could have a couple of these...especially with some good food.

Pours to a dark amber with thin off white head that leaves little lacing.

Has a mild maltiness smell to it with a hint of a sweetness to it.

Starts with a typical pale maltiness you expect with honey and carmel infused in there. There is also a hoppy earthiness to it which finishes with a bittersweetness.

Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation.

A nice brew.

Appearance: Pours a near opaque, dark amber body with a thin, small, off-white head.

Smell: Relatively mild nose smelling of pale malts with a hint of caramel and grain.

Taste: Pale malts with a bit of honey and caramel sweetness. Hint of grains. Spicy, lightly earthy hops with a medium-low bitterness. Finishes bittersweet.

Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation.

Drinkability: A decent, somewhat hop-oriented amber ale.
