A Seattle go-to draft when at a bar where you're unable to determine what exactly's on tap but want a micro.

A not-so-hoppy, cloudy, red-orange pale ale that's really quite mild and balanced. Not exactly easy to put away so quickly, but that's probably not the point here.

You can't go wrong.

Poured into ice cold mug - nice start. Nice light amber color and 2 finger head. The taste is very mild, but I like it a lot. Nice malty balance with slight fruitiness, but more hops than I was anticipating. This is a great go to Pale Ale I am seeing more in Oregon (where the selection is generally OR or nothing. Not to heavy on the alcohol. Will have again

Have had this beer plenty of times, but for some reason, haven't reviewed it yet.

A - Pours a hazy golden-amber hue, with a silky smooth single finger off-white head. Leaves a feathery lacing around the glass as it's consumed.

S - Smell is of honey, crackers, citrus fruits, and floral notes.

T - Taste is a well balanced blend of honey-malt sweetness, and "crackery" malt texture overall, with subtle citrus fruits (mostly apricot and grapefruit that I pick up on), and a crisp, floral finish.

M - Body is on the lighter side of medium, but not too light. Moderate carbonation. Very, very sessionable.

O - Overall, this is just a solid, basic go-to pale ale, and a good session beer. I prefer the other offerings from Georgetown, but it's nice to have this one available at virtually every bar in the greater Seattle-Tacoma area.

Draft at Ruth's Chris steakhouse in Seattle, WA.

Pours a cloudy golden orange color with a two finger white head that quickly settles into a thin ring. Spotty lacing left behind.

Slightly floral aroma with delicate grassy hops countered by bread and pale malt notes. Subtle grassy pine character with faint citrus hop character followed by bread, biscuit and light fruit.

Medium bodied with a crisp hop presence up front that lingers over the sweeter notes and pale malt into a slightly dry finish. Floral and earthy hop character that's not overly dry or bitter followed by citrus rind, bread, biscuit and graham cracker. A well balanced, refreshing beer that pretty sessionable.

Had this on tap at the Parkway Tavern.

A - Definitely average appearance, a little lighter then I would have wanted.

S - Floral aromas. Not much more to say about this one.

T - I'm not sure if it was just a bad keg, but the taste was incredibly hoppy without any substance.

M - Oily is the only word I can use to describe it. Perhaps it was just the keg (?)

O - I was not a fan.

Named after Georgetown owner Mann Chao, this pale ale’s made with Summit and Cascade hops. Enjoyed in a shaker pint.

Bright, cloudy copper. A creamy, one- inch head of light cream deposits thick, frothy walls on the glass. It has the consistency of shaken egg whites and hangs around for a long while.

Bright aroma. Lots of citrusy tangerine; a little grass; crackers; honey.

Same deal in the flavor. Bright tangerine peel, honey, toasted crackers and a touch of apricot. Mild bitterness on the sides of the tongue. Finishes dry.

Moderate, pinching carbonation in a medium body. Smooth. A little fizz as it moves.

Nice, bright citrus notes in this one. A solid pale.

On tap. Pours a dark burnt orange color with a thin layer of head. Some lacing. Aroma is citrusy with some floral notes. Taste is some citrus hops along with some malt flavor. Well balanced. Slightly floral at the end with a nice bitter finish. Slightly creamy mouthfeel. Easy to drink, flavorful pale ale. Worth having again.

Poured into pint shaker glass.Pours a cloudy orange amber, thin off-white head with moderate retention and a hint of lacing. Nice aroma of bready malt, slight citrus and hops. Taste is a well balanced biscuit malt with a hint of roastiness, light citrus hop finish. Medium bodied. A nice well rounded ale with no stand out flavors, but all are well integrated and pleasant to drink. This was an excellent accompaniment to my Italian dinner.

On tap on 2/26/12. Have had this a number of times and finally took the time to review it.

Appearance: Hazy golden straw color with a thin layer of foam that provided light lacing.

Smell: Fresh orange, lemon, and some sweet aromas.

Taste: Lightly glides over the palate with a honey sweetness and citrus flavors. Hops are mild with a very soft bitterness to the finish.

Mouthfeel: Feels light and clean on the palate and above average carbonation levels.

Overall: A mild, lightly hopped APA that is refreshing. This is all over the place in the Seattle area and a good transition beer for those that are new to craft. Glad it is an integral part of the scene here.

Another always on @ the Conway Tavern...

Poured into a standard Pint glass... Transparent Yellow colour with a thin white head... smell is hoppy goodness/very fuity in the mouth. very easy drinking pale ale leaning more towards the ipa zone imho. give it a try if you see the one on-tap around the great Pacific Northwest...

On tap in a pint glass at Bimbo's Cantina in Seattle on 11/9/11

Cloudy, muddy orange; kinda ugly. Poured a thin, soapy layer of foam. Streaky lace - good at the top, tapering off midway through the glass.

Soapy, solvent citrus hops. Fresh orange rind, lemon peel and some grapefruit. Toasty bread aroma with a subtle cracker sweetness. Tastes alright. Dense citrus, but blunted. Lots of orange peely goodness. A bit juicy. Some earthiness with mild pine resin bitterness. Lots of grains for a pleasant backing - toasty, well-rounded with a brushing of sugar. The feel is between medium and full for the style and enjoyably so. Moderate carbonation nails the feel. Granular on the finish with residual citric tones.

Overall impression - pretty enjoyable PNW pale ale of the dank order.

Manny's pale ale is one of the staples of the Seattle craft beer scene; a ubiquitous ale that you can find pretty much all over town. The beer pours a copper amber color with fair head retention and light lacing. On the nose, I really don't get much... maybe some light fruit, grain and malt, but really not much to talk about. On the palate, this beer really drinks more like an amber ale then a pale ale. By that I mean the beer has moderate sweetness in the mid palate, with some light hoppy bitterness in the finish. Mouthfeel is medium bodied at most, with a modest, slightly bitter finish.

It's nice to see a beer like this when visiting a downtown cafe or pub in the capitol hill area, but this is not the sort of beer I'd ever go out of my way to find or drink. The cafe I was at had pilsner urquel and chimay on tap, both of which had more flavor than the glass of Manny's I had. Nothing wrong with the Manny's pale ale, but it's not something I'd normally opt for when out for a night of beers at the pub.

Had on tap in the Seattle Airport

A: Hazy gold with a thin off white head.

S: Pale malts, lemon, honey and grapefruit. Really nice aroma.

T: Smooth upfront with some honey malt. Citrus hops and some earthiness on the finish. This was a pretty solid pale ale. I'd definitely do this one again.

On tap at Japanese restaurant. Pours hazy orange with a thick, short-lived, white head. Aroma is of bready malt and citrusy hops. Full, crisp body. Biscuit malt and citrusy hops and orange fruit fill the mouth. Very pleasant, balanced Pale Ale. I enjoyed it a lot.

a seattle institution - when i came to seattle, i was told to order both this and mac and jack's african amber - neither of which impressed. i get the feeling that they are the "good beer" that's on tap at anywhere in the seattle area, much like there's a one-off bell's offering anywhere in ann arbor, or back in downstate illinois there will be a sam adams lager. nothing special, but if the option is between this and BMC beers, manny's it is.

On tap at the tav.

Pours a hazy amber color. With a 1 finger head that disspiates quickly but leaves lots of lacing.

S a hoppy floral nose with notes of citrus.

T more citrus and floral notes with some lingering bitterness on the finish.

M light in body quite refreshing.

Overall a great nw beer and an excellent example of a pale ale.

Golden amber, slightly hazy look. Good smell of citrus and oily hops. But this is not a big hop bomb. Its very well balanced, a nice crisp but smooth hop, with some nice malt balance that finish very crisp and light. A great match for food, especially the fried oysters I had in Seattle. This beer is proof that every APA from the NW doesn't have to be a big hop explosion, but rather a nice clean American Ale.

A- Wonderful glowing deep copper color. Slightly hazy from the unfilteredness.

S- Best smelling beer I have ever put my nose up to. Very hoppy, tones of marijuana, hint of citrus.

T- Delicious beer. Perfect amount of hops, has a good NW Pale Ale bite to it as well. Flavor can vary slightly from keg to keg; that's the only reason I did not give it a 5 on taste.

M- Has a good amount of carbonation and is slightly thicker than a lager beer.

o- My go to beer at the bars in the NW. Best Pale Ale I have ever tasted.

A: Came to the table a cloudy and glowing goldish amber color with a thin head that was quickly gone. Amazingly this beer laced the glass almost perfectly.

S: Very crisp. Earthy and grassy hops are not over powering and there is a strong pale malt scent mixed with fresh cut green apples.

T: Whoa, Manny, you naughty boy, this is a devilish creation. Perfect hop forward with firm malt backbone delivery. Apples and grassy notes speckled the mid swig before ending with a bitter pop. Nearly perfect.

M: Felt a little heavier than expected, full and creamy.

O: Manny kills the APA style with this one. Great balance and flavor presentation. Could drink this one infinitely.

Find it and buy it. Very enjoyable. Crisp and sophisticated profile.

Who is this Manny, that has given the world such a fine brew? I would like to make his acquaintance.

Served up in a pint glass, virtually no head. Some splendid lacing. Smell is inoffensive, taste and mouthfeel most noteworthy for the sweetness. It's the dominant characteristic, without being saccharine.

I didn't get as tipsy from the two that I drank as I had hoped I would get. Bravo to you, Manny, wherever your dwell.

Manny's is an outstanding beer! The first time I had it was about 7 years ago at the 74th St Ale House in Greenwood. It's local and I liked the red 'Manny ball' logo on the tap handle so I checked it out and have ordered it over all others whenever it's available ever since. I even have the t-shirt!
It's a nice orange-y color and beautifully cloudy from being unfiltered. It has the perfect amount of malty sweetness and the best hop flavor I've ever tasted in a beer. Flavor, not 'bitter beer face' bitterness. This is what beer should taste like in my book.
They recently moved and got some new equipment. I think that in the weeks leading up to the relocation there was an adjustment period while the brewers got to know the new machinery. The beer at the time was a little more clear and a little more bitter. But I've had Manny's again recently it seems that they've now dialed it in perfectly and are again putting out the original, delicious formula.
If you see the red Manny's ball among the tap handles, definitely order one. You'll be glad you did!

We ate dinner last night at Cactus! Restaurant on Alki Beach in West Seattle last night. On tap and served in a standard pint glass. Hazy orange color. Not much head, but moderate carbonation. Smell was piney and aromatic. Flavor was very fresh and refreshing. Great amount of hops, but just for flavor, and not overpowering. More hops that usual for an APA, but not as much as an IPA. Keg must have just been tapped, as it tasted brewery fresh. Easily drinkable with a smooth finish. Paired quite well with my Dungeness crab tamales.

A hazy orange with light foam on top. Pale sweetness with some citrusy hops. Some honey and floral and slightly spicy hop balance. Crisp pilsner and pale malts lead to a smooth mouthfeel and semi-dry finish.

This is an easy drinking and pretty flavorful pale ale. I've been lucky to see it a few times in my trip in places that normally only carry A-B or at best Pyramid and Redhook.

On tap at PF Chang's, Kennewick WA, 3.20.2010 poured into pilsener glass (:.

One finger white head, slow dissipation, some lacing. Clear light golden body, multiple trails of carbonation rising from bottom of glass. Nose features a pretty complex malt profile, I detect some pilsener with a sharp noble hop presence. Taste is quite crisp, malt forward with hops in the middle, leading to a pretty dry finish. Mouthfeel is a bit thin but good effervescence. I can see this being a great session beer that would hit the spot after mowing the lawn. Alas, draft only. I wish they would bottle or can this. IMO one of the country's under-sung APA, worth seeking out for all beerheads traveling through Washington. Not as complex taste-wise or hop forward as a number of other APA, if I didn't know better I'd say this was a Pilsener. Highly recommended.

Manny's Pale Ale is the best brewed micro beer I have ever tried. Georgetown Brewery has done a wonderful job with this one. Available in a lot of local eateries, pubs, etc, and can be purchased there at the brewery in Georgetown, South Seattle.

Appearance: Beautiful! Rustic amber coloring with a light head that provides a great lacing as you drink it down.

Smell: Crisp, light hop and sweet malty aroma. A slight tang smell in the background, denoting a tad bit of sweetness but nothing but picture perfect!

Taste: A wonderfully balanced brew with a hit of bitterness in the beginning that fades away into light malt...then the bites comes back at the end, leaving a citrus, hoppy, pure taste behind.

Mouth feel: Crisp and lively, medium body brew with light carbonation. A nice creamy feel at the end.

Drinkability: A perfectly brewed beer. PERFECT!! Good session beer and could accommodate most food courses. Strongly recommend trying it, especially if you live in WA State.
