Aug. 2003: (500 ml bottle). My son brought me this beer from Prague - the cheapest he found in the supermarkets! The price explains the quality of the beer. A low ABV helles (only 3,2 %), light golden colour, moderate head, decent flowery sweet aroma, very weak body, little flavour and even less aftertaste - what there is, is "boiled" and boring. Tastes like a n/a beer.

I had this beer just after having had the Black Damnation - Double Black. My guess is that anything that comes after the double black is having a hard time to come close.

A - Like a Pilsener - clear yellow and a white head.

S - Malty Pilsener smell.

T - Watery, dry again like Pilsener but than light in taste.

M - Medium carbonated with a bitter finish.

O - Absolutely not a remarkable beer, not a dirty taste but just not worth your money.

Pours very pale yellow with small, but dense white head that lasts rather long. Aroma is mostly mild sweetish malt.

Taste is malty with slight bitterness and metallic feel. The beer feels on the thin side with decent amount of carbonation.

Overall, the beer is not great, but certainly one step above cheap-end beers from other Eastern European countries. I drank it on hot spring day and found quite refreshing.

Had this beer during a jaunt in Prague, Czech Republic.

The beer was thin, very thin. A quickly-dissipating head and very little carbonation. Flavor is not very strong though certainly not bad. Quite refreshing and also quite cheap. A great beer for the traveling student.

Hahaha! After spending a great deal of time in the Czech Republic, I decided to act against the advice of my students and try what they joked as a beer of drunks and "homeless." Maybe my students are a bit elitist, but they definitely were not too far off base. Heavy carbonation, extremely light, barely yellow and definitely verging towards green in color, as well as slightly bitter and not in the "ooh those are some hops!" sort of way. Definitely a below average beer - reminding me of many major beer labels back home. That being said, this is probably similar to the stuff I drank through much of my college career, and at the time, that served me and my friends just fine. In fact, this is probably better and more care probably goes into its production. Well....maybe that's going a bit far. Not something I'd recommend but if you're at your last Crowns for the month, then worth a shot.

Light yellow, tending to green. Compact foam, on the sides, but with big bubbles on the top.
Malt in the smell, more evident than the hop, present, and grassy. Clean.
Less malty than you can expect in the taste, more delicate. Hop.
Light body.
Malt in the aftertaste, maybe a bit metallic. Hop.
Drinkable, even thanks to the low alcohol.

Picked up in Karlovy Vary, this standard brown half liter bottle sports a multi-colored label featuring some guy (presumably Mr. Mestan) in a suit with a big mustache and a bigger mug of beer. Ingredients conform to the purity law. Best before 10/8/04, I opened it on 8/2/04.

Pours a clear, slight pale gold under a thin one finger head that vanishes almost instantaneously. No lace. The nose is very watery, with just a touch of malt after it warms. The mouth is very carbonated and light. There's a bit of grainy malt flavor, but not much else. The aftertaste is ricey. Not much to like here, really...
