This beer pours a semi-cloudy orange-yellow color. The head is half an inch in height, and recedes quickly into almost no lacing. This is a very poor looking hefeweizen. The aroma is of bubblegum, and not much else. It isn't an offensive aroma by any means, but it isn't good either. The taste is much the same. The mouthfeel is on light-medium bodied with a lot moderate carbonation, and a water texture. This feels nothing like a hefeweizens. In fact no part of this beer says hefe. It is most certainly an American Pale Wheat Ale, and the brewery is doing craft beer a great disservice by calling it hefe.

12 oz brown longneck poured into a glass, the beer is a hazy light gold with a smallish white head.

The nose is of grains and if you strain a bit of bubble gum and banana.

The beer leads with a bit of lemony citrus zing, some clove and grains. There is a touch of banana in the finish.

The beer has very active carbonation. I like the oiliness of a traditional hefe, but this slight over carbonation works with the taste of this beer. Drinkability is a bit above average.

I'm convinced that Berghoff changed the recipes of their beers when they were renamed or perhaps something in the chemistry changed when they stopped brewing them in Monroe. While not bad, I liked the old version much better.

A - It pours a slightly cloudy golden color. I was expecting it to be more cloudy for a hefe. There is visible signs of carbonain. The head rose about an inch, wasn't a compact foamy head... looks like a bunch of big bubbles kind of crowding together. No retention or lacing.

S - Very Citric. Lemon is dominant over the hint of wheat.

T - Again very citric. Seems like a blend of lemons and oranges.

M - Medium bodied and crisp, the first taste I get as it goes down is of lemon followed by an orange aftertaste with lemon reappearing. I am picking up some of the wheat tones as well.

D - I wouldn't replace any of my other typical hefe's with this one, but nonetheless, it's a good hefe given that it has it's own signature "different" taste as a hefe.

This beer may be a replacement beer for Berghoff Hefe Weizen, but with the new 'Heartland' name added. Recipe change?

The beer pours with a firm dark golden color, classic hazy appearance but a bit dull and low on the creamy scale. A very short lived head falls in fizzy fashion. A very dull look indeed.

Sweaty, grainy, dirty aromas of wet barley and wheat. Light lemon, pepper, and bananna notes have an initial impact, but then falls into the dirty, metalic mess. No particularly appealing to the nose.

Flavors of soaked grains blend with a sweaty, metalic flavor that quickly becomes the dominant factor of the beer; masking any other pleasant characteristics. Acidic flavors of lemons and other citrus and tropical fruits. Light malt taste comes in late but cannot compete with the flaws.

Thin body does not hold any creaminess, roundness, or fullness. Dangerously close to astringent levels with the grain husk bite and acidic feel. Finishes almost clean- but with that metalic, sweaty character returning.

This is not a particularly good beer in any style.
