Part of an assortment of a twelver with 6 different beers. Nice aroma in the bottle can smell the sweetness and fruity melon-like smeel. Poured into a chalice and got a nice dark bronze color with a light sparkly head. Flavor is very bock-like, well balanced, consistent, sweet throughout, no noticeable change in the finish. Not a standout flavor, but refreshing. Good carbonation.
A good thirst quenching brew.

Hmm... How old is this beer? Last years holiday leftovers?
Found it among a cooler shelf of random singles at Warehouse Liquors for $2 and change. Guess we're about to find out... honestly not expecting much from Minhas. Label says "1996, MDII" on it, and "iceless fermentation" oddly enough.

First whiff out of the bottle is sweet oxidized malt. It pours a deep amber color, with a feeble patch of skim on the surface and a few stray bubbles rising.

Tastes a bit strange, sweet and tea like, honeyed malt mostly and a touch of something floral. Vague fruit candy sweetness. Seems like any given Euro strong lager past its prime. A little yeast fruitiness, though the flavors merely sit there and don't coalesce at all. Watery and a touch metallic also. Not recommended.

A - Mandarin amber brown. Very little head.

S - Light sweet malt. Mild barney character.

T - Sweet acorn squash. Strong, artificial, almost plastic taste. Slightly sour.

M - Watery body. Sweet finish.

D - Poor flavor and body kill the drinkability.

Honey amber with a creamy tan head. Untoasted grain and sweet malt in the nose. Barley and honey flavors with a faint touch of earthy hop bittering. Medium light bodied and creamy with fizzy carbonation. This is the last of the strange historical beers 12 pack and they were all pretty mundane, this one is the pick of the litter I think.

Came from a beers of America 12 pack. Pours a hazy copper color that produced a slightly off white foamy head that faded very fast to a ring around the top of the beer. A medium-low amount of carbonation. Smells very similar to many other Minhas beers. I pick up lots of malts and slight sweet smell. At first I taste some carmel malts...and that's about it. A very weak finish. Slightly smooth mouthfeel. It is a pretty okay beer. Very drinkable, not great but not bad.

Barbary Coast Gold Rush

got this in a 'beers of america' pack

this is a pretty dull beer. nothing much to say about it besides the (mostly) negative flavor notes. 'metallic' 'dirty' and 'watery' are words i would use to describe the gold rush.

it's a nice copper color with a tiny little head that disappears after a few seconds. the smell is bready and lightly malty. the taste is bready, toasty, earthy, malty, sweet. it has this earthy dirt taste that puts me off. it's bitter and citrus/tangy.

overall, it just tastes like citrusy, bready sweat.

the mouthfeel is watery and dry. it was unenjoyable. i will not be drinking this stuff again.

From the "Beers of America" Six Pack.

A: Pours a clear amber with an impossibly large white head that takes a long time to settle and clumps on the side of the glass.

S: Some sharp, sweet yeasts, caramels, and wheat malts.

T: Light caramel malt flavor, a watery body and an afterthought of hops.

M: Slightly watery with medium carbonation upfront.

D: Not bad. I certainly like this steam beer better than Anchor.

Part of a historical beers of America gift set that my brother, dad and I received as a gift for Christmas.

Pours a somewhat hazy golden amber color with about a finger of liht beige head. Doesn't keep very well, with not much more than a rimjob at the edge of the glass.

Smell is pretty weak and bland. Some buttery caramel and indistinguishable fruit, but not much more.

Taste is better, with more buttery caramel flavor than the smell offered. A bit of floral, fruity hops provide some balance. It's not all that interesting but has enough flavor to go down easily.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied and smooth enough, with a decent creaminess. A little heavy in the finish actually, not as crisp as I'd like.

This is nothing all that special but it's decent enough. Smooth and easy drinking.

Presentation: This is one of six beers from an eighteen pack labeled Beer of America, Historical Collection. The 18 pack also came with a nice book titled, The History of Beer in America. It was poured from a brown 12oz bottle into a pint glass. There appears to be no freshness date on the bottle.

Appearance: It has an amber colored body with some visible carbonation. The head on top is light, fluffy and tall. It is off white in color and it is slows to fade, leaving some spotty lacing on the glass as I drink.

Smell: The aroma is full of lemony citrus and leafy hops with sweet candy like sweet malt flavors underneath. Also I am picking up a light mineral like presence.

Taste/Palate: Leafy and mineral hop notes are up first with some smooth buttery, sweet honey and caramel malts in the middle. The finish has moderate hop bitterness and lemony/orange citrus hops as well as more odd mineral notes. It has a solid medium body with lively, almost fizzy carbonation.

Notes: The only thing that comes close the style is the appearance. After that it goes way off the map. It is drinkable but boring and I have noticed that all the beers in this mixed 18 pack are oddly similar to each other. The best part of this 18 pack is the book that came with it.

Bottle poured into a pint glass produced a short lived head that disappeared to nothing (no lace). The brew was nice amber in color.

Not too much in the way of aroma, light sweat malts was all I got as I drank this brew. This is sweat malt tasting brew as well, no hops in it at all. A little sour not dose appear in the end. Good carbonation and light in the mouthfeel department.

This is not one I seek out again It really doesn't do much for me. It did drink real easy so you could session it but I wouldn't want to

Part of a mixed 18 pack of beers (got as a gift from Sam's Club, I think).

Appearance: Poured from the 12 oz bottle into a pint glass. The beer is amber in color with an off white head (about 1/2 inch). Head fades to a partial ring around the glass with no lacing. Pretty meh looking beer.

Smell: Nothing overly discernable, some lightly sweet caramel malt. No aromatic hop notes.

Taste: Some malty flavors (slightly sweet, some caramel, and yeasty bread). No hop notes. A bit bland.

Mouthfeel: Thin in body, light carbonation. Not overly exciting.

Drinkability: An easy drinking beer, not too exciting. When I think California Common/Steam beer I think Anchor Steam as the benchmark. This one misses by a lot.

A: Pours a very clear copper color with little head or retention. No lacing to speak of either. I am amazed by the carbonation on this thing.

S: The malt is very present mixed with some corn smells that remind me of a macro. Slight sweetness to round things out.

T: Taste is sweeter than I expected. However, the malt flavors seem subdued.

M: Very clean and thin. Heavy carbonation is present and adds a bit ofa bite.

D: This is easy to drink, although the taste is not the best. Would be okay on a hot summer day.

12 oz. brown bottle is part of "Beers of America" sampler pack. I've had this beer several times over the years as people buy this for me as a gift.
No freshness dating can be found. Poured into Nonic pint glass.

Appearance: deep copper colored body with off-white beige head, which retains itself somewhat throughout most of the beer. Streams of carbonation bubbles off the bottom with spotty lacing on the glass sides.

Smell: scents are relatively light with sweet caramel malts and distant hops. There's also a hard water odor in the background.

Taste: flavors are somewhat flat with caramel, stale crackers and an indistinguishable hop profile.

Mouthfeel: on the watery side, light body with slight overcarbonation. Definite dryness at the finish.

Drinkability: nothing overly offensive, but nothing seems worth seeking out again. Flavors are flat and body is overly assertive with carbonation.

Hmmm, a California Common. Who knew? I suppose with a name like Gold Rush that figures.
Fairly tame malt aroma, but it's kinda' sweet a lager like and I'm not getting any hops.
Pours initially with a creamy dense head, but it sure leaves quickly.
Clear amber color of red and gold.
Malt flavor a little more prominent in flavor, but in the not really much more. A mild bitterness starts to grow from middle, but it stays mild and mixes with the malt, yet it maintains an empty flavorless quality. Too bad. It does better as warms and takes on a richer quality, but the hops seems to leave then.
Carbonated nicely with a decent fullness and really fine and soft bubbles. Overall holds a pleasant softness and fullness, closing in on a moderate body.
Drinks well enough.
Too bad, I was hoping for something better. Seems to approach style more effectively as it warms, but it's just lacking.

12 oz bottle I got out of that Beers of America mixed pack. Served up in a standard pint.

A: Pours a decent amber color that is very clear. The pour yielded a finger and a half of white head. The had doesn't have a very good retention though, quickly fading to a thin ring that has no stick to it at all. Yet again with these beers, tons of carbonation activity.

S: Decent amount of malt smells coming through, light bready presence and a touch of caramel. There is a ton of corn coming through as well. There is a slight hops presence coming throuh in the nose as well.

T: Taste is pretty decent. Very light caramel malt presence with some cracker tastes as well. Very light hop bitterness coming through. There is also a touch of some apple flavor coming through as well.

M: Light bodied brew with a ton of carbonation. Every damned beer in this series has just been overloaded with a shit load of carbonation. Aftertaste is light and mostly just a touch of caramel. Pretty clean and crisp.

D: Not a bad brew. It could be better, thats for sure, but it went down easy and you know what? I'd drink another. I just might. Its not bad at all. It is very mediocre, but its not on the bad side of mediocre.

A= the head is about 1 finger and falls very quickly. Its a reddish color and no bubbles are seen in the beer... eww
S= candy malts, coffee and butterscotch. Not bad
T= first is a milky malt, then a slight coffee flavor finished with a little hop bitterness. After this my overall impression was just dirty water
M= dirty water
D= low. I could barely finish it... close to a drain pour
