Presentation: 12oz brown bottle. Label has a very early 1900's feel about it. No freshness date.

Appearance: A very pale, straw/yellow beer with a thin white creamy head. Large bubbled carbonation activity.

Smell: Clean aroma of light grain, delicate hops and very faint fruit.

Taste: Crisp up-front with a gentle hop bitterness and seltzer-like/mineral tasting carbonation on the palate. A smooth beer with a nice mellow balance of light fruity malt sweetness, grain flavour and equal hop flavour. The finish is fairly clean with a light sweetness and grain tannin flavour that lingers for a little while.

Notes: Huber is simply a damn fine beverage. Amazingly clean, light, refreshing and easy drinking ... but also has some body and character to it. Beats the pants off of other mainstream examples. 4.5%abv.

Huber Premium poured out of the bottle creating a nice frothy head that quickly dissipated to a pale film floating on top of a pale yellow lager. thin lacing lined my glass within seconds of pouring.

Faint smell of malt, stronger smell of corn adjunct. Taste was sweet, almost like corn syrup, with a little malt in the background. Very little hop presence and carbonation.

That being said, the experience wasn't entirely unpleasant. Two bottles quenched my thirst while I BBQ'd on a warm Sunday evening. It went down easily and without a lot of thought. I'm sure Huber was a better-tasting beer at one time, but it still serves its purpose. Not a great, or even a good beer, but I'd still rather drink it instead of a macro brew from the heavy hitters.

Do not drink this beer. Period.

I'm not a beer "snob." I'll gladly down a Busch, Beast, Old Style, or Keystone if someone's serving one or the other at a party.

However, this beer is offensive and completely undrinkable. I brought it to a friends house to drink while watching a football game not knowing what it tasted like but thinking it couldn't be THAT bad. Well, I was wrong. I could barely finish it. Even my friend commented straight up that it was a horrible tasting beer. Stale, soapy, and flat, like a homebrew kit gone wrong. The yeasty-metal aftertaste lingered far too long.

Do not risk offending your friends, family, and clergymen by serving this beer.

Such a shame because it seems like this used to be a good beer before some recent changes were made (new ownership??).

I had this a couple-three years ago, and it was totally alright. Like, maybe a halfnotch above Pabst but still solidly below the new/old Schlitz. Maybe I wrote some notes for it or whatever, but for some reason I never gave it a proper review.

So when I saw a 12er just sitting there for 4.99, I had to buy it. Beforehand, though, I asked the clerk--with whom I am friendly--why the beer is so cheap. Was it stale?

"No," he said. "Just shitty."

Hmm... figuring him a snob, the sort that doesn't know how to truly appreciate revival beers (that is, so absolutely unironically that your earnestness borders on irony), I handed over my fiver-plus-change and made way to the car.

A few hours later, mumbling to myself--to the beers, actually--about how "you delicious little bastards" were gonna enjoy living in my tummy, I cracked one open. It tasted of soap and used motor oil. But a while earlier I had had a Zombie Dust, and since Zombie Dust can make high-quality escort sweat taste like low-quality methwhore sweat, I decided to try it again the next day.

Next day, it was the same but worse. Like, the 'Dust had actually made my pallet more forgiving.

I don't know what happened, but this is absolutely not the same beer I had a few years ago. It barely even tastes like beer. It's like something puked out of one of those Mr. Beer kids--bereft of actual malt, it's easily worse than the first effort of most homebrewers.

I sometimes love where The CANQuest (TM) takes me, especially after so many AALs! This would be one of those times. I thought that it was kind of a rare style, but then I realized that I have reviewed the top three and six of the top twenty on this site. I am still looking forward to drinking this one.

From the CAN: "From the Oldest Brewery in the MIdwest" - Yuengling, what hast thou wrought?!?

Following the Crack & Glug, I had a finger-and-a-half of fluffy bone-white head with decent retention. Color was a slightly hazy, light lemon-yellow. The nose was bliss - lager sweetness with a slight graininess and no off scents. Ahhh. Mouthfeel was medium with a nice lager sweetness on the tongue. I understand that it is more expensive to make beers without adjuncts, but the tradeoff is significant when it comes to the taste. This was just plain tasty. It had an unencumbered lager taste that I rarely find and which seems to elude many. Finish was plenty smooth for those that focus on such things. This definitely rates cooler space! Well done.

Pours a golden yellow. Pretty heavily carbonated with a white head that faded fairly fast. This beer is lacking on smell. This is a pretty crisp beer. It has a slightly sweet and grainy flavor. A slight hop after taste. This is a decent lager, but nothing spectacular.

Appearance - Clear, light yellow. Short white head, decently persistent.

Smell - By no means strong, but significantly more detectable than most macro-lagers. Sweet pale malt dominates, but a hint of hops is present.

Taste - Light and sweet. Finishes with the slightest hint of hops. Crisp. Little good or bad to distinguish this from others of its ilk.

Mouthfeel - Light and highly carbonated.

Drinkability - A mindless thirst-quencher. Lower price point and historic brewing locale (if recently co-opted by the swill brewing Minhas) give this brew a slight bump.

A - Poured out a clear, golden yellow with a large, rocky, foamy white head. Left little lace, but had a classic lager look.

S - It smelled of grains, light caramel malt and a touch of spice.

T - It was just sweet enough with a good grain flavor and nice dose of caramel. Very mild hop spiciness.

M - It was crisp, sharp and smooth. A light bodied lager.

D - This is a nice lager. Easy drinking and perfect for a warm spring day.

Pours a clear yellow color. 1/4 inch head of a white/transparent color. Poor retention and poor lacing. Smells pale malt and yeast cleanliness. Fits the style of an American Pale Lager. Mouth feel is smooth and crisp with high carbonation level. Tastes of pale malt and yeast cleanliness mostly. There's a slight hop kick in the finish, but it's barely noticeable. Overall, about what I've come to expect from an American Pale Lager. Nothing worth going out of your way for.

I remember Huber beer from way back, but this isn't quite the same. In a good way it's cleaner, but in a bad way it's also a little less characterful.

It's a basic straw gold lager with a thin white creamy head and standard carbonation. The aroma is of "beer", with light grain, background hops, and a hint of apple-like yeasty fruitiness.

The flavor follows suit, and it's zesty and malty/fruity upfront, followed by a suggestion of hop flavor across the palate before it winds down in an almost un-engaging, and only semi-lingering, mildly bitter finish. If Joe Sixpack was a beer, this would be him.

Average but drinkable. There's a bit more substance to it than the big three offer, but it's still basically an American lager.

PS - The bottle currently shown here is an actual old Huber bottle that was a "return" bottle, used again and again by the brewery. The new bottles from the Minhas brewery are fresh and new with a brighter label. I'm quite sure they've dropped returnable bottles as have most breweries.

This beer pours a clear dark straw color. The head is one inch in height, and recedes slowly into a quarter inch cap of foam. The aroma is of toasty malt with some nice floral hop notes. It is quite aromatic for an all-malt lager. The taste is more floral than the aroma with a solid malt undertone. The mouthfeel is on the lighter side of medium bodied. Overall, this is a very nice American Lager that I could easily enjoy again on a hot summers day.

Appearance - Golden brown color with a decent half inch of nice white head. No lacing.

Smell - Nice malt and grain aroma with a hint of berry and apple.

Taste - This premium brew has a nice rounded grain flavor.

Mouthfeel - The feel is simple but it does offer the flavor on the outside edges of my tongue, which is somewhat unique.

~ Distinctive and refreshing. This brew can be a serious session taker.

Label: "from the oldest brewery in the Midwest". Okkk.

Does pour a clean and well carbonated sunshine yellow, pretty nice white head to this bad boy - lots of unexpected lacing left in the Bitberger pislnser glass.

The aroma was a very malty, much more than expected. Quaff is a damn fine one, full of malt, no veggies with a touch of sweetness.

Tasty mid-west treat, I could go for a few of these, and its cousin, the bock Surprised this has not been around before.

Poured a medium straw hue with a one finger foamy white head. There was good retention and lacing.

The smell featured a soft grainy malt with a smooth hop.

The taste consisted of a smooth creamy grain with a light biscuity finish and a mild sweetness.

The mouthfeel was on the light side but creamy nonetheless.

Overall an easy drinking and smooth macro. Thanks to czoch75.

Appearance is nearly headless morning urine with steady and appreciated carbonation streams. Aroma and flavor are both dominated by corn syrup, urine, and honey. Grainy and metallic after taste. Sickeningly sweet. Mouthfeel is slight, syrupy, and sweet. Drinkability is low.

Note: Huber is way better in the bottle then on tap.

Nice clear gold color with a moderate white head. No real lacing apparent.

The aroma is sweet malt with just a trace of floral hops.

The taste is clean malt up front, only slightly sweet, then a mild hops bite cuts in with a slightly dry finish and a slightly metallic aftertaste.

Best ice cold, light bodied, and very drinkable.

Picked up a 12 pack of bottles for $7.99 at Mainstreet liqours in CountrySide IL. This is was the first time I drank this beer. I bought it cold and would buy it again.No foul smell or taste and went down smooth, much better than any macro swill I have had lately.

Sampled at the brewery. Definately not my favorite beer. It poured a yellow color with a finger of head that had good retention through the drink. The nose was honey sweetness with a grainey background. The flavor was grainey, with a metallic aftertaste that didn't sit well with me. Eh. The feel was moderate at best and drinkability suffered from all the above stated qualities. There are other beers that are made here that are much better.
