350ml can served in a pokal glass.

A: Pours a dark brown color. Clear. Forms a big yellow to beige head. Aired and bubbled. Retention is low and some lacings are left

S: Smells sweet grains, roasted grains. Caramel. A bit metallic. Brown bread. Yeasts

T: Pretty much like the nose. Sweet and roasted grains. Brown bread. In overall, a dry watery and mild bitter taste

M: Light watery body with a medium to low carbonation. Mild bitter aftertaste

O: Nice beer. Very honest large production beer for an "improving taste" Brazilian market

I am actually reviewing this beer in Brazil, very exciting. This is pretty much the only non-Pilsner sytle lager available in Brazil, there is a Bramha Black but I didn't see it anywhere. The beer has a nice black body with a creamy off white head. There isn't much aroma, not even a malt or caramel smell, and no lupulo to speak of. There is a nice caramel sweetness to the taste, but little bitterness to balance it out. The mouthfeel is a little more than light, but not overly heavy. I did enjoy a few of these on the TAM happy hours on my flights this week, better than the pilsners available, but not that outstanding.

Pours a black color. 1/2 inch head of a tan color. Great retention and great lacing. Smells of pale malt, slight sweet malt, slight hint of hop, and adjunct. Fits the style of a Schwarzbier. Mouth feel is sharp and crisp, with an average carbonation level. Tastes of sweet malt, slight pale malt, hint of hop, hint of roasted malt, and slight adjunct. Overall, good appearance, but the adjunct hurts both the aroma and body.

Poured from the bottle into a Naples Beach brewery pint glass

A- This brew is pitch black with a light brown head. There is some lacing on the sides.

S- Smells quite sweet and malty with hints of dark fruit as well as some hop character.

T- This tasted burnt with a bit of hops. Sort of like a malta with no sugar added. Does not taste as good as it smells.

M- This beer is well carbonated.

O- This is an okay beer, but I am glad I tried it.

Pours pitch black with a small white head.

The smell is sweet malts and caramel.

The taste is much like the smell, pretty sweet with a tiny bit of bitterness on the finish.

The mouthfeel pretty thin and light with medium carbonation.

Overall much much better than expected at a Brazilian resteraunt with only crap American macros.

Dark brown (almost black) body with a thin, tannish head. Sweet malt aroma blended with hints of black licorice with a slight touch of roasted grain in the background. Smooth and rich body and flavor; hints of chocolate and mint in the taste. Traces of hop bitterness at the finish.

This beer pleasantly surprised me as I somehow (in my prejudiced mine) expected a weak and less-than-awe-inspiring beer. Well, I've been wrong before (just ask my wife)! This is a very pleasing, robust, and satisfying dark brew. This is a very malt-forward beer with a near perfect touch of hop bitterness at the finish. Bold and complex in a very pleasant way. Recommended.

A: Black with a fleeting light brown head that bubbles away like a soda.
S: Initially grassy, with roasted grains and caramel malt. Lager yeast twang shows as it warms and begins to remind me a little of Full Sail Sessions Black (which is a good thing).
T: Comes off very sweet. Heavy bread and caramel flavors dominate with a bit of roasted grains showing very briefly and then flavor reverts to an overly sweet soda-like maltiness. Slightly bitter finish doesn’t detract much from the sweetness.
M: Thin bodied with somewhat harsh carbonation.

Gratingly sweet. The apparently low proportion of black malt/bittering hops leaves this with a rather hollow flavor. This is definitely not what Percy Fawcett was searching for.

Served in a Great divide pint glass

A - Pours opaque with a thin cola head. Lower retention but decent lacing. Nice looking beer.

S - Sorghum molasses, sweet toasted malt, hints of chocolate and berry fruit,

T - Super sweet malt, molasses, tangy acidic fruit, sugary cola, light cocoa, very mild grassy hop provide light bitterness, chalky lager yeast comes through on the finish.

M - Low to medium carbonation, slick and wet feel, light to medium body.

This is a little too sweet for my liking. It reminds me of sweet cola. Good looking beer though.

Nice black color, almost no head. Smells very fruity, but with a slight hint of chemicals. Tastes less fruity than it smells. Motor oil taste hits about 1 second after. Aftertaste is awful. Now it smells like motor oil too. It smells much better 3 inches from the glass than just above.

Single finger tan head with nice lacing on a deep brown body with some light passing through. Aroma of lightly smoked and roasted malts, breads. Flavors also very bready with dark malts, earthy malts and slightly burnt toast. Hint of cocoa came out with the spicey chicken i had at the brazillian steakhouse. Medium body and moderate to high carbonation. Nice balance between sweet and roast. Went well with the multiple meats at the Brazilian steakhouse in Vegas.

A: poured from a 12 oz bottle into a pint glass, very dark yellow-brown almost black with a short tan head that quickly dissipated leaving little lacing, clear

S: very light scents of coffee, malt, molasses

T: roasted malt presence, quite sweet, molasses, dark brown sugar, sugarcane, no real hop taste to speak of

M: pretty thin with quite a sweet aftertaste, flavor profile is very clean, lively carbonation

O: this is the first Brazilian beer I've ever had, it's drinkable but pretty sweet, I would buy it if I was in Brazil but there are better black lagers around

Served in a flute glass.

Appearance: Almost opaque dark brownish black, darker tan head comes off little weak in body but still looking good, maybe 1/8" with vigorous pour.

Smell: Smells malty land a light molasses scent.

Taste: You feel the sweetness of molasses that comes off as malty. Light bitterness makes this beer already best to compliment a dessert.

Mouth: Medium slightly light carbonation, but quick after taste which comes and goes.

Overall: I like this brew but definitely doesn't blow my mind away. I definitely won't knock it, it's almost like a milk stout meets your black lager. Salud!

When poured, this beer has a black as night body with a 2" tan head that hangs out for a couple of minutes then lays down to a thin lace. The aroma has a some chocolate to it and also some malt coming through also. The taste has a sweet flavor, like semi sweet chocolate. Also get a hint of malt on the finish. The mouthfeel is ok and overall, i'm not impressed by it. I wouldn't go out of my may to get it again.

Didn't know what to expect from this beer but I was very pleasantly surprised.

Poured black with a dark brown head. This beer smells and taste kind of like a light stout. It has the chocolate and coffee notes but they are not rich. Still this beer taste good and is easy drinking. The bitterness from hops is also present but this flavor is also very mild. A good choice for someone who likes the stout flavor with a light body and flavor profile.

Opaque black with some shiny red/brown in between. Nice head, about half-finger thick, fizzing away within minutes. Thin and weak lacing.

Aromas of malt sweetness, faint grassy hops, light grains. All very faint/light on the nose.

Some chewy caramel, grains and faint hops are the dominant flavors on the tongue. I would say interesting, but in the end, just OK. Slightly medium body, with a fairly thin finish.

Not a bad import, pretty good if not the most exciting brew. Worth a try.

Appearance: black body with brownish edges with a ½ finger rich tan head

Aroma: not much of a bouquet here; light roasted malts at best

Flavors: toasted grains, roasted caramel, slightly burnt sugars, little hint of dark chocolate and light coffee on the back

Mouthfeel: low-moderate carbonation, moderate body, a little thin on delivery, the malts hit the mid palate and a slight dry bitter note from the hops on the finish.

To the Point: a nice black lager – worthy of trying

A: Pours an opaque near black in color with some highlights of dark amber and some light to moderate amounts of visible carbonation near the surface. The beer has a finger tall tan head that slowly redues to a thin film with several small slightly thicker patches and a thin ring at the edges of the glass. Moderate amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Light to moderate aromas of roasted and caramel malts with light hints of sweetness and some dark fruits.

T: This beer has a very pleasant moderately malty flavor with notes of roasted, caramel, and burnt malts flavors that includes nutty and sweet notes. There is also a hint of dark fruits and very little bitterness.

M: Slightly heavier than light bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Slightly thin.

O: Very easy to drink and enjoyable - nothing exceptional but it is definitely a sessionable beer. This was the first time I had this beer since my college graduation when I initially tried this beer - this was the mid-1990s when there was not nearly the craft beers available... Still enjoyable.

very dark, like coffee. has a bitterness that is delightful. Hard to find, but Anderson's General Store carries it. This is a standard in my fridge. I generally go for lighter and stronger Belgian beers, like Trappist. I came across this at Turning Stone Casino near Syracuse NY and looked hard to find it locally. Their website is nice, leave a comment and they actualy respond with a thank you.
Small company who cares about their beer. (Probably made with water droplets off of exotic plants) just kidding there :)

Poured from the bottle into a Pokal style glass. Twist off cap. No obvious bottle date.

Off the pour, a solid light tan and sudsy head, maybe two fingers, but dissapears quite quickly.. Body color is dark walnut brown with not a chance to see through at all.

Nose is interesting, but a bit strange. Mild malts, an odd sweetness that I can't pinpoint, somewhere between powdered Ovaltine and weak coffee.

Really nice creamy mouthfeel, but a taste palate unlike most Schwarz with a fruity finish. Aftertaste hits at fruit red cherry, roast character played down. Palate though is creamy and dense like a a stout, a very odd combination.

A real interesting beer, but I rather don't mind this at all.

A: A Dark brown with ruby highlights. The creamy tan head dissipates after a minute leaving a thin film of bubbles on top of the beer.

S: Malty and a light touch of roastiness. There is a moderately-light nectarine fruitiness that borders on sherry/tobacco like aroma suggesting this beer may be a bit old. There is a low floral hops. No diacetyl and no DMS.

T: A malt richness with some roast and firm bitter balance from a moderate hop bitterness. There is a light chocolate and a touch of caramel notes to the malt. The isn't much in the way of hop flavors until a hint of it seems to come out in the finish. The finish is off-dry with an after taste of hops bitterness and an earthy hops flavor.

M: A medium bodied beer with moderate carbonation ad a light creaminess.

O: This tastes like a maltier, richer version of a pilsner. The flavor and aromas aren't very lively which is the only flaw in this beer besides the sherry note.

Anyway, pored a rich deep black with thick off white head. Not much aroma, but there is a faint aroma of roasted malts. Taste is coffee roasted malts, somewhat bitter, but nice. Overall, a pretty good dark brew from a place where I didnt think a dark beer existed...nice and rare (for me anyway).

Presentation: Label and artwork are simple and give the feel of a dark jungle expedition. Kinda cool.

Appearance: Poured from a 12oz bottle in to a pint. Pours a jet black with a 1 finger tan head that dissipates quickly into a thin foam ring. Head retention was only about :34. Not much lacing at all.

Smell/Aroma: Smells of roasted grain and malt. A faint nut-like essence is evident along with a faint sweetness.

Flavor/Taste: Tastes of slightly roasted malts with a molasses-like flavor that is very strong. Also a definite dark fruit presence lingers throughout. An earthy/grassy flavor also lingers. Slight hints of chocolate malt on the back end.

MouthFeel: Light-bodied and on the watery side despite having a fair amount of carbonation.

Drinkability: A nice flavor profile along with the light feel make this one a surprisingly drinkable offering.

Overall/Comments: I wasn't really sure what to expect from this beer but was pleasantly surprised. This was more complex than anticipated and a very good overall beer.

This beer pours up a good deep black with a thin light brown head. Minimal lacing is observed. Smell is very subtle. Not unpleasant, but hardly a memorable aroma. Mouthfeel is pretty nice. Not thin at all, but not thick either. Taste is fairly mild with a smooth initial taste giving way to a coffee like aftertaste. A decent enough beer, but I would like it have a little more assertiveness.
