Poured into a pilsner glass.

Pours a clear light straw. Decent white head with better than expected head retention. Decent looks.

Brew smells of light hops and light malts. Bare minimum nose.

Brew is light, clean and would be refreshing on a hot day. Corn and sweet pale malts. Almost nothing flavorful or memorable. OK.

Brew is what it is, a light lager that wouldnt offend.

Poured a 2" white head. Very light clear straw yellow color. Smells like grass and some sort of mild hops. Very mild taste of corn with a mild acidic zing to the finish. Although thoroughly mainstream BMC average I have to admit this wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be and I'd choose it over many of the other weak light beers out there.

Poured into a pint glass.

A: Typical light adjunct lager - pours a clear, pale yellow. Meager sized head that left behind a surprisingly good amount of lace.

S: Mild grains and slight whisps of hops. Ever so slight scent of fruit, maybe green grape. Per usual, not too much going on with this brew.

T: Just like the scent - mild grains, light hops, and ever so slight fruit notes. Crisp and clean finish.

M: Very light feel. This brew has a pretty considerable amount of carbonation. Again, very smooth and easy to drink.

D: Excellent.

Pretty much what I expected for a light adjunct lager. Good beer for parties and games where there's nothing better being offered.

The Moment: Catching up on NBC's Thursday programming tonight...
Glassware: Cleveland Browns pilsner...
Appearance: A more orange version of the pale Golden; similar effervescence...
Aroma: A pungeant doughy malty sweetness....
Palate: A bit mellow, and a much more bubbly, gassy experience...
Taste: Syrupy sweet, smooth malt finish with little to be done on the way down the throat; clean water, yes--mostly just water...
Overall: Not much of a difference between the Golden and the Light, save the gas and the simplicity of its taste profile; drinkable in vast quantities, but preferably in pong/asshole/regatta/flipcup engagements...

Poured from a brown 12 oz. bottle. Has a very pale yellow color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is very mild, slight hints of corn. Taste is crisp, basically flavorless, not really getting much of anything here. Feels watery in the mouth and is very drinkable due to it's lightness. Overall there is not much to this beer at all.

From the 12 fl. oz. bottle marked DEC2709-07622NB. Sampled on August 28, 2009. SInce I am trying to lose weight I have been drinking more and more light beers and this one is actually pretty good as far as light beers go. The pour tends to be more golden yellow with a lot of foamy white head and excitable carbonation. The aroma is of barley, malts and a little grass. The mouthfeel is a tad heavier than many lights and in the medium range. The taste is has a nice balance of malts and a chaser of hops but not overpowering.

A very pale golden color body with a thin fizzy white head that dissipated quickly. Aroma is rather light, some corn, faint hay,and a slight bit fruity, very faint citrus. Flavor is quite light ( as to be expected) a bit of pale malt, some other dry grain,a bit of noticable hops, smooth drinker, with little to no aftertaste, not bad for a light beer, I would buy this again if I were into the light beer thing.

bottle - 12 oz

Appearance - Light golden color with lots of bubbles and a meager head.

Aroma - Very weak aroma.

Taste - Has a light nutty flavor. Little taste and very little aftertaste.

Mouthfeel - Thin bodied and watery. Not bitter. Smooth to drink

Drinkability - Not a bad beer for drinking lots of very quickly. A good drinking game beer or one to pound while watching some television. Not a bad light beer.

From notes 8-20-08

Eye: This beer is disgustingly clear. It is so clear that it looks more like water than like beer. The color, I wouldn't even call it yellow/straw, its more like tainted water. Head is white and has decent retention, ½ a finger I'd say. Looks like some nice lacing too.

Nose: Sweet notes followed by lots of rice, thats only the first time I get my nose in the glass. After that there is nothing, its almost as if that was all the aroma it had and it went right into my nose. Clean smelling water. It really has no aroma at all.

Tongue: There really isn't any flavor here. Rice is obvious, and what other flavor is here is terrible. I'm sad to have to call this beer. Slight sweetish notes chasing the aftertaste and quickly vanishing leaving an acrid and very dry aftertaste in the mouth. Agghh I hate this beer, it is so bad!

Mouthfeel and Drinkability: Extremely light in the mouth, the consistency of carbonated water. Finish is dry. Easy to quaff, and if you're going to drink this you'd better be quaffing it. There's no other reason to drink this shit beer. If you're not drinking this to get wasted (because I'm sure it'll only take about 10-12 of these bad boys) I have no idea what is going on with that fucked up brain of yours. If someone tells me that this is their favorite beer, and that it tastes so good, I'm going to laugh in their face. Really, really glad I didn't pay for this. This beer isn't worth the minuscule amount of iron in my shit.

Pale yellow color with a huge white head that quickly dissipates. The nose is grainy with some bitterness. The flavor has a little corn added the the grains. Light overcarbonated body stings my tounge. I suppose a Canadian some where may enjoy this brew.

1. Appearance like any light beer golden yellow
2.Smells like corn or a corn made beer.
3.Not bad definitely tastes better right at like 33 degrees had it more towards 45-50 big difference, but i guess you can say that about any light beer.
4.Mouthfeel was like a normal light beer average.
5. Me personally i could drink a ton of these, but sorta a thick for a lighter beer.
Overall, not a bad light beer but I'll try any Canadian beer. The Great White North makes a decent beer time and again. What else is there but snow, beer, and hockey. ha

Pours a typical light yellow color with a decent amount of foam. Aroma is pretty bland at first though I detect hints of corn adjunct and some sweetness. Taste is much of the same, sweet and yet some bitterness on the tongue. Nothing too impressive or offensive at the same time. Tastes like Molson Canadian, except lighter of course. I would give it a fair rating.

Poured from a 12oz. bottle into a weizen glass.

A: The beer is a very pale gold color with a medium-sized white head that fades quickly and leaves a thin lace on the glass.

S: The aroma is of barley, corn and a very faint touch of hops.

T: The taste is very weak. There are mostly flavors of barley, malt corn and the typical macro sweetness, just in smaller amounts. The after-taste is slightly bready and a little sweet.

M: Crisp and a little smooth, light body, medium-to-heavy body, finish is clean by default because there isn’t much there to leave any type of residue.

D: Not very tasty, goes down ok, not filling at all, which isn’t surprising. There isn’t anything about this beer that would make me want to buy it. If I were going for an inexpensive light beer there are better and more inexpensive ones available.

Molson delivers a pretty basic light lager in their Canadian Light. The golden body is a little bit darker than most, which is nice, and the head is a creamy bright white but it dissipates quickly as expected. The nose offers a bit of yeasty fruitiness and some sweet malt along with some floral hops - nice! In the mouth it offers a dextrinous medium-light body and a gently zesty carbonation. The malt is just slightly grainy; and it leans towards sweetness but never really gets there. It's surprisingly rich for a light beer, and actually offers more flavor than some of the standard price-point beers out there. The balance is nice, and the transition is smooth from malt into lingering floral and spicy hops amidst a mild bitterness in the finish. Hmmmm... actually pretty good in comparison to most light beers. Well done!

For Macro Smackdown VII, I've decided to go international, while staying on North American soil. The home team in this clash of the titans is Canada's Great Light Hope, Molson Canadian Light. The visiting team is that clear glass bottled, bright yellow amigo from south of the border, Corona Light. Let's see how they stack up.

Medium amber with a fine dusting of miniscule particles and a fair amount of rapidly rising carbonation. The head can only be described as off-white and is slightly darker (barely so) than the head on the Corona. So far, the two are nearly identical. The place where this beer is the clear winner is in the consistency and structure of the cap, and the deposition of a little more lace.

The nose is typical for a macro light beer in that it's extremely low on power and presence with just a whiff of grain. Since there's very little to go on, further description isn't possible. Hops? No. As is usually the case, an underpowered aroma means a lack of any overt offensiveness.

In terms of overall personality, the flavor is identical to the aroma. This is one of the meekest, mildest light lagers that I've ever had, and I've had a fair number over the years. Canadian Light is undermalted, underhopped and woefully underflavored. More than most versions of the style, it tastes like a macro lager cut 50:50 with water.

I always find it challenging to talk about body when it comes to light lagers since they really don't have any. As the anorectics of the beer world, there's so little meat on 'dem bones that it seems silly to even comment. After multiple sips, I've come to the conclusion that this beer has a *slightly* bigger mouthfeel and holds its structure for slightly longer than the Corona.

MacSmack VII is a classic case of the relative merits of a lack of flavor (this beer) versus more, but worse flavor (its competitor). My preference should be obvious by the scores I've granted. I really hate to use the word 'preference' in that context since my real preference is to be drinking better beer.

I fell like all light beers are the same but thsi one isnt as bad as some of the ones Ive had. I usually have a lot of these and its non-light counter part when i got to Buffalo apparently Canadian beer is big over there. jaja Anyway the beer is a light gold color with very little head that quickly disappears. Tatse of some maltines and some hops during gth after tste a smooth mouthfeel that isnt dry at all. Smell is mostly og grain and alcohol.

Pours a very pale straw hue, with excellent clarity. The bubbly white head reaches only one finger in height, but holds well. Little to no lacing. Faint grain adjunct smell, mostly clean. The taste is equally bland; some grain adjuncts and slight hop bite that leaves a bitter aftertaste worth mentioning. Thin body and high carbonation make up a crisp mouthfeel. The flavor is not bad for a light lager, and it is fairly balanced, but its so thin that eventually the alcohol is percived and detracts from its drinkability.

Pours a white, five finger-head that vanishes almost instantly leaving no lace. Clear, very pale amber color. No noticeable carbonation and very light bodied. Nose may be a faint sweet hay. Starts with no hops or malts finish is almost like water. Even a bad lawn mower beer. The Canadians can brew a decent light - Keith's but this isn't it. $1.45 for a 340ml from Colonial Spirits Acton, Ma.

This is an average beer. Way too much head in my opinion. Average color and taste. Heavy for a light beer. The regular is much better. It's a drinkable beer, but I wouldn't run out and buy a twelve pack! Better than Labbatt's Blue Light on any day!

12 ouncer w/o freshness indication. Pours very light straw, with a feeble white head, minor lacing noted. Faint nose of corn/rice. This is not gonna be pretty. Here goes...taste is watery, adjuncts, nasty in general. Lawn mower beer, at best. Something about this stuff tells me 2 or 3 would lead to a nasty headache. Pass this macro, water waster by.

Blah... not a special beer, and doesn't really hold a candle to it's full flavor brother. Light golden color with a short lived head. Medium low carbonation. Scents of corn and hops were present, but very light. Flavor was on the stale watery side for my liking, but none the less went down smooth, and would be a do-able session beer. Not much of an aftertaste, but notes of alcohol and hops were slightly noted. Worth a try, but nothing great.

12oz. bottle: This beer pours a pale yellow color, with a bit of a white fizzy head. Well, it doesn’t smell bad, it just doesn’t smell like much at all. I get a weak nose of some sweet malts and that macro adjuct aroma. The taste isn’t offensive, just watered down. Typical thin light beer, with a hint more flavor than its American counterparts.

Presentation: 12 oz long neck bottle - double label with random "witty" sayings on the back. Bottle brags about being North America's oldest brewery.

Appearance: Pours a pale yellow color - completely clear. Decent white head that quickly fades.

Smell: Fresh crisp smell of an adjunct lager. Very very slight hop smell.

Taste: Again - crisp, fresh taste. Very light bodied, clean taste. No aftertaste whatsoever.

Overall impression: Decent beer for what it is. I'm not a fan of light beers - but this seems to be better than a lot of the BMC offerings.

Poures a lite golden color with a 1 figer head after a fairly agressive pour. OK lace. Not much smell here - which is average for a "lite" beer. Very faint malt smells with even fainter hop smells. Picking up some corn and rice smells as well. Taste is OK for a "lite". Some subtle sweet malt with a bit of hops. Watery, but that is pretty much what I expected. Is better than other more popular "lites" (AB), and worse than others (Sam Adams). An average lite beer.
