22oz bottle served in my FW snifter glass
*Notes from 04/13/13

A: Pours light and thin in appearance with a dark hazel brown hue. Takes on a much darker black coffee color once fully collected in the glass. Topped with a smooth whip of low retaining dark khaki head that leaves some nice waves of splashy stick throughout the drink.

S: Fresh roast Kona coffee beans blend with dark grains. Aroma imparts a bit of ashy char on the nose and is slightly sweet with some burnt sugars there as well. Nice overall with some delicate yet firm coffee noted.

T: Rich coffee flavor is surprisingly fresh tasting. Dark toasted grains and charcoal notes. Slight brown sugary sweetness with a subtle coconut flavor coming through. Has a lingering smokiness as if they may have actually utilized some smoked malt additions. There is a very low hop bitterness present and any alcohol flavors are lost on me. I am getting a minor sharpness from the coffee additions. Not unlike the tart pucker of drinking a black coffee. Flavors are pretty nice otherwise with some decent balance.

M: Lighter body with a nice smooth and creamy mouth feel. Rather dry brew with some low astringency on the palate. Finish is a touch wet despite being mostly dry all together.

D: Not a shabby little porter by any means. Nice coffee flavors from the Kona additions. A bit thin with some cutting bitter components but factor in the very sensible price tag and I could see myself going for this one again.

Coming from a 22 ounce bottle on to the beer;

let's make this short and sweet, this is a very dominant coffee tasting porter. It's a black colored beer with fluffy head and good lace. Coffee and mocha dominate the aromas. Meanwhile the taste is very dominate with the coffee, with just a kiss of the porter mixed in. Good for the coffee lovers who wants just a little beer.

When poured into a pint glass, the color was a deep brown, with a little tan foam, but, loads of lace on the side of the glass from top to bottom. The smell of roasted malts and roasted coffee had a very pleasant aroma. The taste was of roasted malts and coffee. A little bitter on the palate and a touch of sourness. But overall a very pleasing coffee portor.

Attractive reddish brown in the Leffe goblet. Modest head, but pleasant enough mouthfeel. Fairly sharp and thin. It doesn't taste very strong with alcohol.

A nice of blush of sweet malt on your lips with each taste. The coffee is definitely there, but not too strong. Tastes almost like it has coconut and a touch of vanilla. The aftertaste is just a little too much like bitter dishwater, however. A little sharp and spicy. Some burnt malt along with the bitter coffee twang.

From the 22 oz bottle purchased at Avenue Liquor in Coronado.

Appearance - Pours a dark cola brown. The head fades quickly, leaving a minimal lace.

Smell - A distinct but simple coffee aroma, with just a subtle hint of chocolate.

Taste - Like iced coffee after the ice has melted. Not much else. Nothing offensive, just a weak and simple flavor profile.

Mouthfeel - Light-to-medium body. Weak carbonation.

Overall - The best part of this beer is the aroma. After that, it's all downhill.

A: Black, opaque, with a white head.

S: Coffee, brown malts, toast, dark bread.

T: Nose + a mild mellow hop bite.

M: Moderately dry from the roast. Carbonation is low-moderate.

O: Pretty good, an excellent coffee brew but obviously a cautious review.
