On tap at Maxie's Southern Comfort
A - pour is dark chocolate with a persistent 1/2 finger head
S - aroma is coffee, vanilla, licorice, chocolate. I'm sure this will evolve as it warms
T - taste is coffee dominated, not much of the bourbon comes through. Good amount of roasted malt, less so chocolate
M - feel is thin, no burn, not much carbonation
O - overall, this is not bad. Good price, but I was hoping for more bourbon character. Maybe I'll change my notes as it warms. Would have again, but maybe my expectation for barrel aged stouts with similar names has been skewed a bit....

$10.99 for a four pack. 8% Alcohol 240 Calories. Found at Giant Eagle and was a great dark beer with a coffee taste. The smell was below average but not that bad. This would be a recommended choice if your desiring a Guinness but are looking for the unique coffee aftertaste. A little high in calories though too which would be typical for this type of beer.

12oz bottle poured into a snifter. 7/10/13 on the neck
A: Pours a very dark ruby brown appearing black in the glass. A small off white head fizzles to the sides fairly quickly.
S: Smells like a strong black coffee with fermented dark fruits and a touch of bourbon. Carmel and other sweetness comes to mind. Emphasis is on the coffee.
T: Comes off sweeter than I had anticipated, there is a stout in there but it doesnt appear to be very complex. Bourbon comes through only in the aftertaste.
M: Medium body that is a tad watery for the style. Warming in the aftertaste. Sweetness makes it a touch sticky but not bad.
Overall its not too offensive, worth a go round but not something I'd pickup on a regular basis.

Presentation: Cool classy looking classic label that is very eye-catching. Gives a small description of the beer, ABV info, web info, and brewery info.
Appearance: I allowed this to warm for 15min before I decanted from its 12oz bottle into a 16oz snifter. KBBS pours out an oily jet black with a 1½ finger tan foam head of a medium density. Head retention was rather short at 1min 5sec before fading into a thin foam ring. Good lacing.
Smell/Aroma: Smells of deep roast coffee with hints of a toasted nuttiness. Very burnt in the nose with slight hints of smoke and dark fruit. KBBS has a nice bourbon backbone.
Flavor/Taste: Taste is dominated by roasted coffee bitterness and a burnt smokiness as well as nutty chocolate malt sweetness on the front-end. A slight caramel vanilla sweetness is detected mid taste before giving way to a smokey oaked bourbon finish!!! Really Awesome!!
MouthFeel/Drinkability: On the lighter side of full bodied with a slick mouthfeel and a dry finish. Very drinkable though maybe a bit intense for some.
Overall/Comments: I was very impressed with this offering. The bourbon barrel really adds incredible complexity in the nose and on the palette. Alcohol is masked extremely well in this offering! Classified as an American Double/Imperial Stout. Consumed 3/15/13.
