12oz bottle into a snifter.
Pours jet black with a thin tan head. A decent sized ring is left around the edge of the glass on top of the beer.
Coffee is very prominent on the aroma with a lot of roast and caramel along with a healthy dose of chocolate which surprised me a little bit. A somewhat subdued vanilla not but I can't really detect much bourbon. Nonetheless a very inviting aroma.
The flavor has lots of coffee and caramel up front but not in as strong of dose as is present in the aroma. Almost no bourbon at all but rather vanilla, chocolate and caramel. All of the flavors are a little bit thin but they work well together. Roast and char lingers long after the other flavors have cleared up. Mouthfeel is quite thin for the style with a light bitterness and a lingering stickiness.
Overall, a good coffee stout but not on par with Founders Breakfast Stout and roughly the same price. If this becomes available in TN I will gladly pick it up because of no alternatives. In other parts of the country, however, there are better alternatives.

A - Pours pretty black (seems thin) with a tan head.
S - Vanilla, caramel, toffee and a bourbon oak presence. The bourbon is definitely there, just not overwhelming.
T - More charred oak aspect on the taste. Coffee is there along with some bitter dark chocolate. For a BBA beer, the bourbon characteristics are not it's strong suit.
M - Light bodied, medium carbonation. It needs to be a little more thicker, but it is pretty smooth. ABV is noticeable but not there.
O - A good rendition, but not a good substitute for others in the category.

Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Stout, the ale has been selling like hot cakes for stores in Ohio...the sad thing is I can't figure out why. When I saw this version I still had to give it a go it mentions aged with Haitian coffee, pours pitch black with a fizzy light tan head. Aroma gives off the coffee notes with hints of vanilla, charred oak, and bourbon. The flavor however keeps it along the lines of a mediocre light fizzy stout that may have been aged in oak bourbon barrels but really doesn't have enough body to carry out the characteristics that the barrel has to offer, first of I don't believe this beer is 8% that is hidden way too well. Remains a bit one dimensional even watery on my palate, it finishes with some bourbon flavor charred oak and watered down bourbon that warms the gut just a bit after a few sips. Really all and all it's a beer I will never go back to the carbonation and textures fall flat on the palate, just poorly made beer put in bourbon barrels that's my final impression.

Poured from the bottle into a mug.
Look: Not too much going on here. A black that is like eternal darkness. No light penetrating this beer at all. I gave quite a vigorous pour, but no much head that disappeared quickly. Lacing is very minimal. Like the color, but nothing else to marvel at. Average.
Smell: A nice vanilla mixed with caramel. Very pleasant. It kind of ends on a woody coffee. Yes, that's right, woody coffee. I'm picking up wet wood that is soaked in coffee. Interesting, and one of the highlights of this brew.
Taste: Definitely picking up on the vanilla, and it transitions into the coffee/dark chocolate at the end. Also still picking up the wood flavor throughout.
Feel: It has a smooth smokey texture that is complimented by the medium carbonation. Pretty balanced, and the abv is hidden decently.
Overall: A decent enough brew, but I really miss the chance at a frothy head that I get to fight with. Maybe other imp stouts are the same, I'm still a rookie, but I've had another that was still able to produce some frothiness, if only for a bit. Pretty decent taste and smell, just everything else from there is slight less. I wouldn't give up on this one entirely, I'll revisit from time to time.
